Good empty hand sparring when it comes to grabbling it's another matter locks and takedowns nearly always dont work under pressure, but it's here we need to work more, even beginners can down an instructor by tying one up.
I did Modern Arnis for a few years. It was very simple and alot of the footwork was Karate-ish, long stances and the like. I liked PTK footwork better. But Kali Pagano is a hybrid.
In Muay Thai you use something called "Baiting the Center." Your hips stay at a 45degree angle and draw the opponent in and allows you to work angles. I found it works great in conjunction with FMAs. The footwork in Muay Thai is mostly the in and out Western Boxing type stuff with more emphasis on angles.
sure thing :). i study pekiti nowadays, so i guess i should have picked up on that... what style of arnis is this? i also didnt realize muay thai had formal footwork
I had to look up wun hop kuen do cause I had no idea what it was. Saw it was in the Kajukenbo family. What we do is similar to Kajukenbo in that we mix FMA and BJJ/Judo and Muay Thai all together with other stuff. Our foot work comes from Arnis and Pekiti Tirsia mixed with Muay Thai. So indeed, that does make sense. Thanks for the comment! :)
although i do realize, that this fighting style is supposed to be based of of stick fighting, when it is demonstrated empty handed, it just seems like spontaneous waving, but the same moves look a heck ovalot better with the sticks.
