I saw this film at a SAG screening at the DGA. I knew after the film that it was an instant classic. One of the best films ever. Every minute was brilliant. Jeremy Renner is the movie star and actor of today's generation. I'm sorry that the Academy did NOT bestow more nominations this great film. Jeremy Renner for sure deserved his.

@BeanTownKid97 I thought "Public Enemies" was good. When a movie is described as a crime film, I expect a lot of violence with lots of excitement. Instead, this movie had a limited amount of death and destruction and this stupid little Romeo and Juliet "forbidden love" theme was just annoying throughout the movie. Maybe if I had gone into it expecting that kind of stuff I would have liked it more.

It wasn't nearly as good as Heat. It shouldn't be compared. With the exception of Chris Cooper who had about five minutes, the acting was mediocre and the personality types were watered down. It's still worth seeing, its just not as good as it could've been and the reviewers, critics are giving it too much praise.

They arent many new ideas or new scripts. its all adapted material, unlike Heat. don't get me wrong I loved the Town. It's just that it steals ideas from old movies, including Set it Off, and it offers nothing new. I do agree with the critics on the directing, it was rather exceptionally good for a heist film. (compare it to the recent Takers).

I went to see it with high expectations. Those expectations were far exceeded. Renner's Gem was by far and away my favorite character, and should definitely earn him at least an Oscar nom. The dialogue between Jon Hamm and Affleck during Affleck's questioning is some of the best since Sam Jack and Travolta at the diner in Pulp fiction IMO.
