The Mig 29 SMT upgrade is going to make it a very deadly platform. First it used to be solely an air dominance fighter but now it would be a true multirole fighter with a great range of A2A missiles and the capability of carrying out precision strikes.

I don't understand why people are reading so much into end user agreement. Every country who purchased US weapons has signed it including close US allies like UK, France and Japan. It didn't limit their use of these weapons. Pakistan did it too, did that stop them from using it against India? If India uses INS Jalashawa for amphibious assault, what do you think will happen? will US recall the weapons? Which court will they go to? These things are superficial, get over it.

See, it is not about whether we can use the weapons purchased or not. We are going to use them regardless of what, but we don't want to be blackmailed or pushed around by the suppliers, like lets say no spare parts, no engine replacements, no upgrades !!

US cannot replace Russians. We have heard that very often from Indian leaders that even though India has found new relations with the west it wouldn't be at the cost of its time tested friendship with Russia.

I am not qualified to compare two modern fighter jets but I am not surprised by Ministry of Defense decision to go for Rafale rather than Typhoon.

Cost played a big role in the selection of Rafale over Typhoon.

Technology and politics played a big role in the elimination of American fighters F16, F18s, Gripen and Mig 35, since these fighters cost less than Rafale or Typhoon.

Indian air force not only looked at technology but also consequences of any sanctions by the US.

The reson why india didnt get Eurofighter is not becuase its too expensive, its because its not long ranged and not carrier bound. FA18 Super Hornet, Mirage and flying coffin mig35 are long ranged and carrier bound.

i think rafale is d best choice for mmrca..but d thing is we want aircraft to replace our single engined mig-21's..rafale,f-18's,mig 35,typhoon r all twin engined,porkies have f-16's n gripen has no war experience...also to note dat mig 35's wont be available till 2013.eurofighter is too expensive..all other planes have US parts.. in future they can put sanctions on us and hence we wont have spareparts..dassault rafale is d only complete aircraft with all d avionics parts n missiles r dere's

the end user agreement is bullshit. apparently they even made india sign one for the ship they gave us the INS Jalashwa. We can only use the Jalashwa for humanitarian causes. Not during a war. The superhornet is good but my personal favorite is the MiG 35. and kash any news on the Pak-Fa project?what about MCA have trials for it started?

Dear Kashsoldier , i have very little knowledge about airfoce i need your comment. What you will recommend on selection Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA). The six competing MRCA aircraft are Rafale, Typhoon, F-16C/D, F/A-18E/F, JAS 39 Gripen and MiG-35. What do you fell, which craft will suite for Indian air force?

It will be a political decision !!! I think it will be Rafale. Indian air force has Mirage 2000, which is a medium combat aircraft.

All the fighter jets will come with AESA and BVR. F18 lead the way here but others are not far behind. F16s may not qualify because pakistani air force has F16 A/B/C.

Euro will be out because it is too expensive. F18s stand a chance but the problem is end user monitoring agreement. India can never sign that.

Mig 35 sounds good but too many migs

Nothing wrong in having more Migs but we already have Mirage 2000 in the medium combat category. Rafale can be its successor. Some people would say, too much dependence on Russia !!

yes !! It means, the customers cannot use the purchased weapons against countries friendly to the US !!

Inspection of weapons will be conducted every year.

The wording of End user monitoring agreement will be changed according to Indian demands. Discussions are going on, and India might sign it !!

Thanks, Kash, for the explaination. I can understand why that would create a lot of friction to a country that was attacked using US equipment, but the inspection of that equipment that was already purchased, makes no sense to me. I'm sure the Indian Govt. will ammend the agreement according to their own needs. Kind of like a line-item veto we have here. Thanks again, sir.

Pakistanis have AMRAAM C1205 series BVR weapons(Iam not sure about the credibility of the report). Its range is 100km. India can go for R77M1 with a range of 150km. Russia uses it already. War is just not about BVR missiles.If india blocks indus river-pakistan cannot surivive for more than 7 days!!
