The last shot was a weighted cue ball, right? that can't be possible with just spin can it? unless the table was SUPER SLICK, even then it would eventually develop forward roll, right? right? *brain asploded*
Great! Apart from the pleasure of seeing these legends in action, notice how true that pool table plays - makes me want to beam me right into that video and knock a few balls around! Thanks for uploading!
His name was Charlie, not Johnny and he was a very talented player. Although I agree that he seems like a bit of a tool, he knew his way around a table and I'm sure the advice he gave was good "at the time". Gotta remember, this is 60 year old footage and the game has evolved.
It's rare to see footage of 3 legends of the billiard felt jungle on the same video clip, especially 3 cushion players to the calibre of Willie Hoppe and Charlie Peterson, as well as Irving Crane, a great straight pool player :)
A young crane.

At 5:30, to see a rail nurse is really, really cool. Hoppe was like a surgeon with the cue.

Translation. "Everything is done this way because I say so." LOL. Still fun though. 5 stars for nostalgia.

Mosconi81 is right. The only reason to hold the cue at the balance point is if you are playing one handed.
Where you hold the cue depends on your wingspan and length of bridge.

Mr Hoppe playing a bridge that is never played by modern professionals. :P
It would have been interesting to see Hoppe against the the big 4 English Billiards players, i.e. Lindrum, Newman, Davis and McConachy.
