  • I cut my musical teeth on the music of Walter Hawkin. He & Edwin are the biggest influences (then comes Thomas Whitfield & Richard mallwood) on my playing style. I was listening to "There's a War Going On" when Igot the news of his passing...and cried like I had just lost a close family member...in a sense, I did. From the happy times to the moments of deepest despair, there has always been a Walter Hawkins to accompany me along my journey in life. Thank God for the legacy of Walter Hawkins!

  • Can you please post this song........i love it and i can't find it on You Tube. Thank You. Please keep posting all of this wonderful memorabilia from Bishop W.L. Hawkins...I will never forget what his music has done for me.

  • @LdySeats Sure I can.

  • @LdySeats Thank you!

  • When I found out that Bishop Walter Hawkins went home to be with the Lord. I went back to a time in my mind about how my Mom and Dad played Walter Hawkins Love Alive 2 when I was recovering from a disaster in my life. Had it not been for the songs on that tape ministering to me I would have lost my mind and my life. GOD BLESS YOU BISHOP HAWKINS R.I.P. NOW YOU CAN SIT DOWN AND REST IN THE ARMS OF JESUS CHRIST!

  • A COMPLETE LOSS TO THE GOSPEL MUSIC INDUSTRY IT WILL 'NEVER' BE THE SAME!!!! RIP WALTER HAWKINS....it is the eve before the musical celebration and i am so grieved! I wish i could've been there.

  • I am deeply saddened by the news. I found out last night. Walter Hawkins legacy will definitely live on. Words cannot express how I feel. He was and still is an inspiration to me. I'm Going Away was my first solo back in 1976 from the Love Alive II albulm. Bishop Hawkins was a big influence when I started writing gospel music. We have lost a Treasure.

  • I have been listening to the Hawkins Family music for so long that I feel like part of the family. I am 53 years old and every since Edwin and Walter started making music, I was there at the store buying it. Their musical gift is like none other. You can even replicate the " Hawkins Sound". I have endless love for the family. Bishop Walter Hawkins, Everything you have been preaching and singing about, you now get to experience first hand. May God bless your memory and rest in Christ.

  • Hello Asha, also a fight for first as the #1 fan, but we can all say we were a REAL Witness to what the Lord has created and birthed in this servant God. I will cherish every record I own, every artist birthed through his ministry, and this great, great family who, through it all, continued in this great message of Gospel. He also helped to get this ministry outside of the Church, and to the world to give the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, even when it was unpopular. R.I.P. my brother

  • In a day and time were titles like "Legend," "Trailblazer," and "Pioneer" are being thrown around loosely, these titles apply and many more apply to Bishop Walter L. Hawkins. He was not only my hero and my mentor, he was also my friend. Thank you, Bishop Walter Hawkins for the many years of inspiring songs you've given to the world. My heart is so heavy and I will forever miss you. I will never forget your music and ministry, and will share them with my Godchildren, children, and grandchildren.

  • Walter Hawkins was gospel music. My prayers go out to his children, grandchildren, church family, and my favorite gospel singer Tramaine Hawkins.

  • I grew up listening to Bishop Walter Hawkins & the Hawkins family. His songs are, and always will be classics. BE GREATFUL, SPECIAL GIFT, WHAT IS THIS, GOIN UP YONDER, GOD IS STANDING BY, MARVELLOUS. And my all time favorite THANK YOU LORD FOR ALL YOU DONE FOR ME. This gospel legend & icon will indeed be truly missed. R.I.P Man of God. My prayers go out to the family.

  • R I P Walter Hawkins. I gave my heart to the Lord in 1978 at the age of 12, got into the choir, we sang Be grateful. MY early Christian experience involved the music ministry of Walter Hawkins. We would listen to the Vinal Albums at home, Not CDs yet, but The actual Vinal Albums.

  • Humanties loss and HEAVENS gain - what a legend!! And I agree with the early post that Bishop Hawkins and the Hawkins family have changed and touched numerous lives...

  • Growing up in the 70's our youth choir sang almost every Walter Hawkins song there was. His songs are timeless and they've meant so much to me over there years. Interestingly enough, we are having a choir reunion this weekend I am sure we will be be sure to sing as many Walter Hawkins songs as we can.
