i have a question. I have heard from many people that when you write an essay showing u agreement with something is not good. In this case Rebeca, i dont know, you should talk about the big city and on the other hand talk about the small city. Something like advantages and disadvantages. for example:

@jordanie123 At first , you have to practice note taking, paraphrasing, summarizing and synthesizing. You can find these skills in Barron's Toefl Book. If you study more on these 4 skills you will get high from integrated writing. Good Luck

Since the TOEFL is an exam of your English language proficiency, it is strongly advised to use the best English you know! Stay away from using any slang or colloquial language. You want to show the examiner how well you can speak and write English, and that you know what proper English consists of.

Hi Diegocauac

Yes, if you are given a preference question, such as big city or small town, it is much better to choose one side and write from that perspective only.

There is less confusion this way and you will get higher marks for supporting your position with strong reasons rather than diluting your essay by arguing from both sides.

You should only write about both sides in a comparison and contrast essay, where they will tell you to present both sides of the issue.

You get two assignments. One where you're only allowed to summarize and synthesize a text and a teacher you just heard speaking about the same topic. The other one is a small question or statement. And you have to take a standpoint (agree or disagree) and argument for your view based on your personal experiences.
