  • Why were there nazis? Because God gave us free will.

  • brilliant !!

the fear of "i dont exist" is the crux of fear of death . And that can be transcended only when the "i" which is going to die is understood as a mental construct, a story . And once that occurs, there wont be "anyone" to worry about death or living. And that peace is ones nature always.

  • His dad is absolutely right

  • Maybe because they were sucking the country dry?

  • Great clip! : D

  • What movie is this?

  • @ReesesPeices4L hannah and her sisters .. in the description

  • @ReesesPeices4L "Hannah and Her Sisters". It's a classic. Highly recommended, along with "Annie Hall," "Manhattan," "Crimes and Misdemeandors," "Radio Days," and "Match Point."

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • @cessnaace Thanks ill check em out!

  • @ReesesPeices4L My pleasure. Also checkout "Broadway Danny Rose" and "Bullets Over Broadway," two more of Allen's films that I love.

For the most laughs, try "Bananas."

    STAY AWESOME! :)

  • In his "Scene by Scene" interview with Mark Cousins they replayed this scene and Woody cringed when he heard the can-opener line...

  • This scene does beg the question, I mean...are there really any Jews that convert to Catholicism? There are none that I know of, personally, and I do know a large number of Jews. I mean why would they? Wouldn't that be like a Buddhist becoming a Lutheran or a Muslim becoming a Presbyterian?

  • There IS a God, he healed my kidney.

  • @yossso Why have the Jews been expelled from 109 Locations since 250AD? Everyone must be Nazi's cause they just about been expelled from everywhere.

  • @4truthjusticefreedom

Medeival Christianity is the reason. Jews like Christians lived persecuted in muslim countries, but were not expelled. Muslims were fortunate to not have to live in Christian countries.. Jews had the misfortune of not having their own state, and were expelled in various part of Christian Europe, which had taken over most of the world. Now of course muslims are the most dangerous, though they were always the problem for Hindus for example.

  • @boliusb why do they hate jews? besides the jesus thing and money. whats the real understandable reason?

  • @jennyrgar

Well, the jesus thing is -huge- , , John 8:44 associates some pharisee/rabbinical Jews with "their father the devil". and Christians HATE satan/devil/evil, and if they associate jews with that, Christianity can in theory become a very scary thing for Jews, if they see Jews like that, and have in the past(but I love american evangelical christians, they're solid decent people with a kind theology).

  • @jennyrgar

The fact that Hindus have not persecuted Jews..(yet Jews have lived in India), is significantly telling. Yet Islam has persecuted Jews and Christians, and especially Hindus, Islam has killed 80 million Hindus. So Islam has been far worse to Hindus than to Jews. Muslims even today interpret their religion in a way hateful to Jews since it's in their religion, since Jews rejected Mohammed the most, and mohammed taught that! so it's sealed in their Islammic holy books!

  • @jennyrgar

So the religion thing mustn't be discounted, it's very understandable, and a huge reason, and a very clear explanation to why Jews haven't had problems with Hindus. Japan also, got lots of Nazi Propaganda but didn't hate Jews, they thought we need these rich jews! they read the propaganda differently!

  • @jennyrgar

Another reason why they hate Jews, is that Jews are disproportionately intelligent, there are many talented Jews.. Not all, and perhaps not even most, but some, are very very intelligent, and they can want to change the world and create a revolutions, now, the revolution may be a stupid idea, like a communist revolution of Karl Marx. One individual Jew,had his intelligent idea, neither he nor others were intelligent enough to think their way out of it.. it threatened the existing order

  • @jennyrgar

So that's another problem, it's that tiny number of Jews that want to change the world, and when they mess up, or when they threaten the existing order of things, some stupid people , become jew haters and turn on all Jews. So, many Jews today -hate- the idea of a Jew in a position of power in gentile society, because they know that it's very bad for the jews, because when it goes wrong, jew haters turn on jews, or stupid people become jew haters and turn on jews.

  • @jennyrgar

So, Islam and Christianity the main reason Revolutionaries is another.. (despite the fact that Karl Marx was a self hating jew - see, some sick nasty jews often turned on other jews in order to gain a powerful position, amongst jew hating society). So, Kissinger was recently found out to have made nasty jew hating statements, partly because people at the time in Govt hated Jews. There is jealousy as you say, Jews having money.. Jealousy=hatred.

  • @jennyrgar

and back to the jesus thing, another reason they hate jews, is that jews -were there-, they're like a witness saying Jesus isn't god, and even if jews keep their disbelief in jesus as god to themselves, it can potentially annoy the hell out of christians.. and there was a man not so influential in jew hatred now but was at the time. Martin Luther, angry at Jews not accepting jesus, called to love them initially, then gave up and called to burn synagogues! and he was a founder of

  • @jennyrgar

and Martin Luther was a founder of a christian group.. i think protestant reformation or something.. Fortunately nowadays they reject or don't even know, of his jew hating teachings, and they take only his theology and his theology doesn't add to being against jews. But when you have a founder of a theology or version of theology, and the founder hates Jews, then Jews can potentially have problem for centuries or millenia, from the founders followers!

  • @jennyrgar

remember also, most Jews have been living in exile, outside of Israel for the last 2000 years, and under lots of intolerant regimes, and even in Israel before then, surrounded by intolerant violent big empires.. some even conquered Israel.Other peoples were probably hated and that's why they don't exist anymore, they dropped their identities. .But Jews hung onto their identity because of their belief. But they lived powerless without a state.Muslims were fortunate to not be stateless

  • I was hoping for an answer to why there were Nazis. There is no answer to why evil exists.

  • @S2Cents 'Hier ist kein 'warum'' (here there is no 'why') to quote a Nazi concentration camp guard.

  • @Elcore Maybe the guard realized something most people cannot, except that he referred to the camp. Universalize the insight.

  • Isn't "Evil" simply the absence of "Good"?? If Man rejects God, who "is Good", then there is "Evil".......because humans are little pieces of filth always making trouble.

  • Well, you will be conscious! But, I want to ask this, Jews don't believe in Jesus Christ? How is that?

  • @jolinass jews practice only the old testament, which was written long before jesus. they don't consider the new testament to be legitimate. they either believe that jesus was a false prophet or that he never existed. makes a lot more sense then christianity to me

  • @angrygrunt thank you very much. my opinion is that answer lies in after jesus time, or as we call it Dark age. or when people discover waht happened in that period, if ever, than a lot of thing will change. and one more question, so jews dont have relevations book? if that is true, do they have theory how this '3d game' will end?

  • The dad perfectly sums up why anyone shouldn't be afraid of death. You just as well might be afraid of sleep.

  • @Trinivalts Well, devil's advocate, people with night terrors are afraid of sleep.

  • @fredo18ify in death u don't have even those.

  • Brilliant! :')

  • Aren't you frightened?

    Of what? I'll be unconscious!

  • haha this is great! I love how Woody obviously does not believe IRL but he gets the message out there by playing the character who is scared to death of... death. don't worry about it people, like the dad says, deal with it if you happen to be conscious after dying. it's a waste of valuable 'being-alive' time to think of what 'might be' after death when there is no actual way of understanding the unknowable.

  • "Will you believe in jesus?"

    "I know it sounds funny!"

Jesus Christ, a pun on Xtianity!

  • By the way, that "joke" makes no sense. Why + how = not consistent. Poor choice of words

  • Okay. Repeating the punchline should not get so many thumbs up that both the highest rated comments are just the same line.

  • So true on so many levels.

  • GREAT GREAT FILM

  • Woody Allen, being Jewish, really noticed the Catholics as an noted opposition to his beliefs; we see this theme come up and be obvious in the movies. He would have a picture of the pope on the wall, in a way the Government would do to the President; a notification of what is his challenge. His bio says he once wrote 2000-jokes a day, people must be boring to him.

  • 0:44 Exactly how I feel!

And omfg I died laughing at the can-opener joke!

  • oh my that reminds me of me!

  • "Tell him, Max!" ;)

  • lol

  • that was a lot of buildup for that joke, but it was worth it...lol

  • A brilliant movie by a brilliant man. The one of many keys to Mr. Allen's comedy is his unsufferable talent (and ability) to laugh at himself.

  • WOODY is a genius - those JEWS are so clever and witty; rock on WOODY.

  • this is the sort of conversion scene that happens, probably often enough, but Woody doesn make it funny - he wants a reason and can't find it, he wants convincing and no one has evidence - his dad has it right, don't worry about it!

  • HAha this is great :)

  • Wow, this scene is from a MOVIE,,that is FUNNY. Look at the serious discussion the posters had before me.......Woody is laughing at YOU and you don't even know it. LOL LIGHTEN UP lol

  • How the he'll do I know why there were Nazis I don't even know how the can opener works. Bwahahaha!!!

  • gods always punised jews for being jews really. just think of all the stupid shit that hapedn to them for the last 10,000 years.

  • Gotta love Woody's irreverant, neurotic genius.

  • Last line = genius

  • @AlchemicGnosis the first definition is circular logic. the second implies the existence of someone who can be harmed by what you do. you proved my point: getting caught by authorities. why? because either the fire kills people or harms the environment which is enjoyed by other people. the act is punished for its effect on others, not for the act itself. so far, you haven't shown how evil exists apart from how an act affects another person in some way, direct or indirect

  • @AlchemicGnosis if there's only one guy, his burning down the forest has no negative effect on others. other than someone saying "hey that's evil" how is it evil at all? it's a cause and effect gesture. so if you're alone, no evil, because your actions don't interfere with anyone else

  • @AlchemicGnosis evil relates to how one persons act affects another negatively. without other people, there is no evil

  • Classic. I've used the line "I don't know how the can opener works" so many times since watching this movie. As well as "When I'm dead, I'll be dead". This is my favourite WA movie of all time.

  • Check out 'sarah ryan deluded' You will either love it or hate it.

  • "I don't know how the can opener works." I'm with him.

  • I don't know why but I love this guy,Woody.

  • BRILLIANT BRILLIANT

    tell him, Max. lolololololololololololololololololo

  • He's not funny? Couldve fooled me

  • the subtitles are not exact to the original screenplay. its a shame because this was an excellent screenplay. it won the oscar.

  • I love this movie.

"How do I know why their were Nazis, I don't know how the can-opener works."

  • "You're gonna believe in Jesus Christ?"

"I know it sounds funny, but I'll try"

    LOL

  • "I mean the against-school-prayer, pro-abortion, anti-nuclear wing"

    LOL

  • I have never seen anyone with such a sense of humor!

  • why?

  • If you don't like him, then don't watch his shows. It's simple as that, idiot.

  • One of my absolute favourite movies, it never gets old!

  • I just saw this movie, and it was so amazing.

  • "If there is a God, then why there's so much evil?" is and has always been a very good question. I see three alternative answers to that:

    1. God's not omnipotent, and he can do nothing about evil's existence,

    2. God's fine with evil - he IS evil himself - he likes it and isn't going to do anything about it,

    3. God doesn't exist so we have to deal with evil ourselves instead of waiting for his fairytale like interference.

Choose the on you think is best.

  • Maybe it's something to do with free will, if you believe we have free will that is.

  • I can't choose because I've thought of the exact same three options, and that's why this movie and this scene means so much to me (although I'm a little optimistic too and I sometimes think it's also true what they say about "beacuse man's got his own free will").

And this scens means to me also because Allen gives it a funny twist, so it makes you in a way think like..."well, after all, who caaaaaaares, when we're dead we'll know".

  • "I'll dye Easter eggs if it works..." classic Woody Allen-hysterical! :0)

  • His father has the most brilliant philosophy about death!

  • what movie is this

  • Hannah and Her Sisters.

  • "Aren't you afraid of dying?"

    "Why should I be afraid?"

    "Cos you won't exist!"

    "So?"

  • ;;;;;;;))))))) great question for every morning meal xDDD

  • i don't know how the can opener works

  • i do, haha :D

  • Absolutely classic! One of my favorite scenes.

  • LOL! Woody Allen's a goddamn genius. I love the lines in his movies, they're superb.

  • my favorite scene. His father is hilarious. =

  • Just the scene I wanted to see! Thanks.

  • Classic Woody Allen.

  • Ahaha! Thanks for posting this clip!

  • haha

  • Priceless.

  • I love this scene! Woody is always at his best when he's addressing the topic of religion. I also love the scene where he's talking with the Hare Krishnas... can't seem to find it on Youtube.. it must be out there somewhere!

  • OhhhhYouKnow - I was looking for that same clip! Where the hell is it?

  • Woody is just unique! Thank you so much!

  • "<i>How the hell do I know why there were Nazis? I don't even how the can opener works</i>!"

    Classic line! Classic! ROFL!

  • WIN!

  • It's from Hannah and Her Sisters :)

  • This is great!!! what movie is it??? I had neveer seen that one.. and I'm jewish descendant, raised catholic(from the pro-abortion anti nuclear wing) agnostic woody allen fan, so it fits really great
