I would agree, Most people, Would not hit there breaks so hard in water like that, But there are road conditions at times, That even a very experienced rider, Can't control easy, Like in a area of black ice on a curve, Or on a road, That it just starts to rain on, After a long time of no rain. So it could be helpful to have ABS, Even for the best riders. Because there are no perfect machines, With or without ABS brakes.
lol 30 years of riding, i never seen a more retarded ummm stunt?

Seriously how did we ride the old yama1.1 and things like that? locking the wheel would mainly be acomplished with a padlock and some chain . definatly not at 100kph. Mordern bikes with out. hand of god coming out of the sky and stopping you, it ads to rider tallent

I wonder how much he actually tried to stay up there. I don't have ABS and I'm fine without it. It should be up to people to make the decision if they want it or not. Its actually more dangerous to have in the dirt. I tried ABS on the 800GS before and it kicked so hard it was difficult to keep my foot on the brake. A scary moment.
I have 30 yrs riding experience, and recently crashed my bike. I wasn't paying close enough attention and suddenly the car in front of me was at a dead stop. I braked too hard, locked the front wheel, and went down. Which is exactly what the guy in the vid is doing. He doesn't go down because of the outriggers, but the instant your front wheel quits turning, it goes sideways (tucks), and you go down. I hit my brake too hard for less than a second, and less than a second later I hit the pavement.
@sheslop888 Well made point! It is like the times you get distracted by a miniskirt and suddenly realise the traffic in front has stopped, it is those moments that ABS helps.... it is possible to stop quicker than ABS but not in the panic circumstances that happen
@sheslop888 Thanks for sharing. ABS is key for riders who want to ride for a lifetime and even if it doesn't safe you from crashing, at any further reduced speeds, falls won't be as fatal as a whole.
Not everyone, particularly those who drive carefull, or possibly in the csae of bikes, not at all in the wet, practice & readiness for emergency stops is just unavailable.
Expert drivers can get away with many things that would kill ordinary drivers.
The rest of us need ABS & mandating their fitting as fior seat belts & air bags is the only way.
Its just easier to throw abs on all cars due to all the morons on the road, rather then educate them about threshold breaking which imo works better then abs.
haha i raced 1 year on the suzuki SV.. without ABS and with street tires.. u can brake almost as hard as in dry conditions but u need to control the braking.. not squeeze it that hard that the lever is on the other side of the throttle.
but i can imagine on the normal road that people panic brake and lock it up.. so even tough it may up the price a little bit more, its worth it... u cant use the money u save by buying non ABS bikes if ur dead....
@hbuzzi seriously, have you ever been on a bike? Lock the front wheel and that happens, he doesnt do it to "help the theory of ABS". If you have no first hand experience try to google for some info, then comment.
@nndth Ha ha yes, I think I drove enough, and none of the motorcycles I had in my life had ABS, so I know how it works breaking over paviment, dust, weet roads, etc. Maybe you need to watch this video again and be honest on whether that's the way you break your bike. And now that I thought about all of the years I've been driving motorcycles, maybe I'll tray to google for some info (to see if this has been reinvented).
Not a good test, again just as in the honda test, the brakes are fully engaged, the ABS version will control the braking, without the abs you should do it yourself. This is panic braking with and without abs
Well, I wonder why there are so many older bikes around.
Mine doesn't have ABS, and I admit its very tricky to stop in the rain, but if u brake that hard in the rain, U are doing it wrong and should be on a bike in the first place !
aiii meus deus, ele freia, e vira a moto, tem mais q tirar essas rodinhas ai, e se arrebenta no chao, fica reto na moto fela da p...., que enganha quem, abs é otimo, mas esse teste ai, mó enganação.
Why wont they make instant deploying side supports such as in the video, in case of a motor cycle tilting too much or sliding sideways with a coupla g sensors?
Stop acting as if ABS are a bad idea, if you have any riding experiance you would agree it is a great step for motorcycle safety. Sure you can be a cool teenager commenting on how a "real" biker rides, but when you grow up you'll hopefully realize this is a great initiative.
@SFOplayer1 I think its a good idea but its also not the best. You are the best braking system ever, race vehicles don't have driver aids such as this because the drivers take the time to hone their skills and perfect the necessarily actions required to operate one safely. Throwing on ABS as a blanket and letting kids think. "I don't need to learn how to properly brake, I have ABS and I can stop now shorter too." Is an absolute myth, so maybe riders should learn how to brake properly?
@elcko123 Fair enough, however, this was "mandatory"; so the idea that you don't need to learn how to break properly is, well, true. Slamming the breaks is your first instinct, and on ABS systems, it would be the correct procedure.
I don't want that shit on my bike! At least not w/o an also mandatory switch to turn it off. Hardly a real comparison. It's like those skewed tests that show how "Dangerous txtn and drvn is".
@EndlessDelusion You may be right, but it is a natural reaction if you are in a close call situation that doesn't offer ample warning it is natural to slam on the brakes.
@johnrolandyeiseriii I know this is a bit late of a reply but you are totally right. either way, we all know ABS is going to give you a safety net in bad weather. I just lowsided it today behind a car accident (In the rain, downhill on the most ridiculously slippery road built by man) because there was no way to stop in time. ABS would have been very useful. Still got all ma limbs though.. and some metal trophies to hang on my wall ;)
@EndlessDelusion Easy to say you shouldn't do it but if you've ever been in a situation where a car is about to pull out infront of you you'll know instinct is to grab the front brake
@DEATHMETAL334 I completely agree and have done trying to avoid an accident infront of me (and didn't do it very well ): ). I'm all for ABS but It'd be better to see them slowing as fast as possible safely. ABS would still be much, much better.
@EndlessDelusion +1 ABS is good but it shouldn't be mandatory like the EU are trying to make it. Adding ABS to bikes normally bumps up the price and that's the last thing we bikers need as the EU are deciding to fuck us over again and again with all these new ill advised rules and regulations they're bringing in
I can't believe this test. It was done with what looks like standing water. With Standing water of course ABS will help you stop faster, especially if you're going to grab the front brake like a squid. Read the Motorcycling magazine reviews of the CBR600RR with ABS. A polished rider has no trouble Exceeding the performance of the ABS system on dry or damp pavement. Now if you're riding through a flood, yes, you might need ABS. Besides, I like locking by back and sliding it around sometimes

I would gladly accept a significant insurance reduction for a bike with ABS. Those that refuse ABS could pay for the increased risk as they should.

ABS should not be mandatory if anyone feels he doesn't want ABS on his bike well why should he.
If you must just make people aware of the need of ABS let them decide when they buy a new bike if the wan't ABS on it.

screw ABS, we need those extra 2 side wheels, looks fun!

Well if you dont know better, than to block both your wheels on that surface, then you have no choice but to drive with abs.
But no doubt abs is more safe.

This is a bit silly. You shouldn't be braking that hard without ABS. A controlled brake would be a much better comparison.
Also, the rider isn't turning the bars deliberately. He's braking far too hard, locking it and once the front wheel goes, it goes.
watch?v=yYiEcOlEdvo is what happens when the wheel loses traction; it's very easy to do.
