Is it possible that the lack of U.S. presence will also help lower the justification for the insurgency?
McCain is a douche. Obama shouldn't of fired McChrystal. You think Eisenhower liked Patton? No, but did he fire him, no, of course Patton is not comparable to McChrystal but whatever. Former President George W. Bush consistently referred to the Iraq war as "the central front in the War on Terror", and argued that if the US pulled out of Iraq, "terrorists will follow us here." While other proponents of
the war have regularly echoed this assertion, as the conflict has dragged on, members of the US Congress, the US public, and even US troops have begun to question the connection between Iraq and the fight against anti-US terrorism. In particular, a consensus has developed among intelligence
experts that the Iraq war has increased terrorism. Counterterrorism expert Rohan Gunaratna frequently refers to the invasion of Iraq as a "fatal mistake." London's conservative International Institute for Strategic Studies concluded in 2004 that the occupation of Iraq had become "a potent global recruitment pretext" for jihadists and that the invasion
"galvanised" al-Qaeda and "perversely inspired insurgent violence" there.[350] The US National Intelligence Council concluded in a January 2005 report that the war in Iraq had become a breeding ground for a new generation of terrorists; David B. Low, the national intelligence officer for transnational threats, indicated that the report concluded that the
war in Iraq provided terrorists with "a training ground, a recruitment ground, the opportunity for enhancing technical skills... Under the best scenario, over time, the likelihood that some of the jihadists who are not killed there will, in a sense, go home, wherever home is, and will therefore disperse to various other countries." The Council's chairman Robert L. Hutchings said, "At the moment, Iraq is a magnet for international terrorist activity."
And the 2006 National Intelligence Estimate, which outlined the considered judgment of all 16 US intelligence agencies, held that "The Iraq conflict has become the 'cause celebre' for jihadists, breeding a deep resentment of US involvement in the Muslim world and cultivating supporters for the global jihadist movement
troops The surge was reduced to 30000! Obummer then fires Mcrystal and rehires a general he also fired! While Bush stayed the course! Obama destroyed it! PERIOD!
On May 1, 2005 the "Downing Street memo" was published in The Sunday Times. It contained an overview of a secret July 23, 2002 meeting among British government, Ministry of Defence, and British intelligence figures
who discussed the build-up to the Iraq war — including direct references to classified U.S. policy of the time. The memo stated, "Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."
The CIA had contacted Iraq's foreign minister, Naji Sabri, who was being paid by the French as an agent. Sabri informed them that Saddam had hidden poison gas among Sunni tribesmen, had ambitions for a nuclear program but
that it was not active, and that no biological weapons were being produced or stockpiled, although research was underway. According to Sidney Blumenthal, George Tenet briefed Bush on September 18, 2002 that Sabri had
informed them that Iraq did not have WMD. Bush dismissed this top-secret intelligence from Hussein's inner circle which was approved by two senior CIA officers. The information was never shared with Congress or even CIA agents examining whether Saddam had such weapons.
Tenet (left, in pink tie) in the Oval Office with President George W. Bush.
In September 2002, the Bush administration, the CIA and the DIA said attempts by Iraq to acquire high-strength aluminum tubes that were
prohibited under the UN monitoring program and which they said pointed to a clandestine effort to make centrifuges to enrich uranium for nuclear
bombs. This analysis was opposed by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and INR, which was significant because of DOE's expertise in such gas centrifuges and nuclear weapons programs. The DOE and INR argued that
the Iraqi tubes were poorly suited for centrifuges, though it was technically possible with additional modification. A report by the Institute for Science and International Security in 2002 reported that it was highly unlikely that the tubes could be used to enrich uranium. An effort by the DOE to correct this detail in comments prepared for
United States Secretary of State Colin Powell's UN appearance was rebuffed by the administration and Powell, in his address to the UN Security Council just before the war, referenced the aluminum tubes, stating that while experts disagreed on whether or not the tubes were destined for a centrifuge program, the specifications of the tubes were unusually tight.
Powell later admitted he had presented what turned out to be an inaccurate case to the UN on Iraqi weapons, and the intelligence he was relying on was, in some cases, "deliberately misleading."Shortly after the United States presidential election, 2008, and the election of rival Democratic party nominee Barack Obama, president Bush admitted that "[my] biggest regret of all the presidency has to have been the intelligence failure in Iraq".
Look at these two bozos trying to put Obama down but, they will be shocked and faint when Obama wins 2012. They want America to stay in Iraq for another 10 years.

If we were in the hands ov McCain we would be still in Iraq spending trillions of dollars. This guy never cared abut the American people and as he said when he campained as president .... "I don't understand economy"
i know it was a long time ago , but does anyone remember Bush changing the reasons we went into Iraq? first WMD, then stablize the region, then it was to promote democercy, then it was saddam was a bad guy, then it was to stop Al-qaeda The war started in 2003 and the surge did not start until 2007. And what he said during the 4 years was to 'stay the course'. Does anyone remember that?
@95tahoe1 Does anyone remember how congress voted for it, does anyone remember how both clintons supported ousting of saddam? does anyone remember how the dems ran tail when the political part was getting hotter they ran and bush stayed the course adjusting as needed.Nope, because all you did was watch cnn and the other bush haters, all we saw was death toll and where are they now, they are so in the hip pocket of the dems it isn't even funny and Saddam himself even thoght he had wpd's.
@daveh69 YOU know you gloss over the glearing errors of Bush. Did you only watch Fox? From " MISSION ACCOMPLISHED to we will be hailed as Liberators" I'm not a hater I was in italy when 2003 war started. But you wont see the errors. You believed everything you heard. You did not question a thing. I listened to both sides and looked at whats was real and not what was said. something did not match But that ok for you. You only listen to one source. and they made up your mind. So sad!!!
@95tahoe1 NO, however, there are errors in every war and it depends on the people who run it to change and modify as needed. But when you have the likes of obama, reid, palosi and many others saying the troops raided and murdered and the war was loss. Yea, I will point out the accomplishments of the Bush admin. Also, if it wasn't for bush, we wouldn't be pulling out of iraq in a timely manner.
John McCain go away..back to Arizona the nation is sick of you but your to stupid to see it and Hannity you make me sick putting this piece of filth on all the time i stop listening to your radio show because of your support for this piece of crap.
There was never any war, in Iraq. The occupation in Iraq was just about greed. Sure, Hussein was a dictator, but he was not our problem. It was not our job to remove him from power.
I could understand why we're in Afghanistan, but i don't think we should be there either. This is a battle you won't win. For every ten insurgents you kill, a hundred more will pop up. Get the F out of Afghanistan, and send our troops to the borders. That's the real battle.
what does the surge have to do with stopping the damn war..?? republicans keep bringing this up, like if it they were the one who made the final decision to stop a war that people are tired of...the surge incremented the troop level and prolonged the war...obama is getting the fuck out of a lost cause that bush manufactured a just like it happened in vietnam we are getting the fuck out..its a waist of resources at a time when the country cannot afford it..
Charles Krauthammer is always spot on when it comes to Obama. CK knows the politician better than Obama knows himself. I agree completely with John McCain too.
Obama increase 65,000 troops to Afghanistan, took a stand and ended the quagmire in Iraq, and even gave the order to take out some pirates. Doesn't sound cowardly to me.
You might not be a Republican but you sure sound like one.
You right wingers hate muslims but are more than happy continuing an endless war defending a muslim country. Ironic or just idiotic?
@coumadin75 If you agree 100% with McCain then your an idiot. The first part about gratitude! WMD'S WAS A FUKING LIE WE SHOULD NOT HAVE INVADED THEM PERIOD! That being said, the rest about the surge is correct Bush may have f'd up the start of the war, but he did play a significant role in correcting his huge FUK'UP by having the balls to ignore everyone & allow our troops to finish the mission & return home with some dignity. BTW Hannity, all missions were NOT accomplished, no WMD's were found!
@enuvune How long did it take you to figure that out? Duh! You don't tell anyone your plans, even your own people! The Taliban will avoid any contact with US forces, till next year, then take-over the Govt. after we've pulled out and start beheading all the Afghans that cooperated with the US! Obama is stupid!
@HolyCity2012 The enemy is muslim stinking terrorist, you liberal commie-fag! We've been at war with stinking shit-bags for ten years, you pea-brain-idiot!
@Wildkkat1 Your forgetting the other piece of the pie. If the enemy hide, and 'build their strength until we leave." You forgot to mention that while the enemy is 'hiding' this allows time for the regime to train more soldiers, lay down more govt. sovereignty, and allow a time of decreased violence, which will instill more confidence in the people, that things are getting better, and to participate more in the rebuilding of their govt. Of course its the middle east so I doubt this would happen
@shadowwbn The only problem with that is the taliban and al-queda know they can't take on the US military toe to toe, that is why they us roadside bombs, and hit and run tactics. If they drag out the war long enough they know the American public will start screaming for an end to the war, and we will leave. The same tactic worked on the Russians and on us in Vietnam.
@Wildkkat1 You left one thing out, they are also preying on the fact that the longer it drags out, then the people will grow tired of the violence, and seeing that we cant get rid of the insurgents then they will join them to get rid of us so the violence stops. I dont like the situation, its pretty bad. We would have been able to accomplish more if we were able to focus all of our efforts into Afghanistan instead of the Iraq BS, but Afghan. didnt have enough Oil for Bush.
@shadowwbn Afghanistan was where al-queda was based, and they move through out the MEast. remember 9/11 that is what started the whole thing. Pakistan has 60 - 100 nuclear weapon, and that is the main reason we don't want terrorist getting to them, and we can stop them if our military is close. Obama is not doing anything to stop Iran from getting nukes, and that is a big mistake.
@Wildkkat1 Alqaeda was formed and given financial support in the millions by the CIA around 1988 when Russia began withdrawing troops from afghanistan. The CIA wanted some control in this area, but they tried making demands to directly make them do or play in a manner that benefited the CIA they got the finger. Then CIA continued to harrass them until they declared jihad and everything else we all know. This was exactly what JFK was trying to stop until CIA killed him off.

But when you have the likes of obama, reid, palosi and many others saying the troops raided and murdered and the war was loss. Yea, I will point out the accomplishments of the Bush admin. Also, if it wasn't for bush, we wouldn't be pulling out of iraq in a timely manner.

LOL, won the war in Iraq?

@coumadin75

Even mentioning a withdrawl date is assinine. The enemy will just hide, build there strength and wait till we leave! Obama is one stupid idiot!

america can't stay there forever.
enuvune 1 year ago
@enuvune How long did it take you to figure that out? Duh! You don't tell anyone your plans, even your own people! The Taliban will avoid any contact with US forces, till next year, then take-over the Govt. after we've pulled out and start beheading all the Afghans that cooperated with the US! Obama is stupid!
Wildkkat1 1 year ago
that had absolutely nothing to do with my comment.

@HolyCity2012 You're the one with the fag mouth, go blow the taliban with keith and chris, and show maddow how to be a woman! LOL!
Wildkkat1 1 year ago
@Wildkkat1 Your forgetting the other piece of the pie. If the enemy hide, and 'build their strength until we leave." You forgot to mention that while the enemy is 'hiding' this allows time for the regime to train more soldiers, lay down more govt. sovereignty, and allow a time of decreased violence, which will instill more confidence in the people, that things are getting better, and to participate more in the rebuilding of their govt. Of course its the middle east so I doubt this would happen
shadowwbn 1 year ago
@shadowwbn The only problem with that is the taliban and al-queda know they can't take on the US military toe to toe, that is why they us roadside bombs, and hit and run tactics. If they drag out the war long enough they know the American public will start screaming for an end to the war, and we will leave. The same tactic worked on the Russians and on us in Vietnam.
Wildkkat1 1 year ago
@Wildkkat1 You left one thing out, they are also preying on the fact that the longer it drags out, then the people will grow tired of the violence, and seeing that we cant get rid of the insurgents then they will join them to get rid of us so the violence stops. I dont like the situation, its pretty bad. We would have been able to accomplish more if we were able to focus all of our efforts into Afghanistan instead of the Iraq BS, but Afghan. didnt have enough Oil for Bush.
shadowwbn 1 year ago
@shadowwbn Afghanistan was where al-queda was based, and they move through out the MEast. remember 9/11 that is what started the whole thing. Pakistan has 60 - 100 nuclear weapon, and that is the main reason we don't want terrorist getting to them, and we can stop them if our military is close. Obama is not doing anything to stop Iran from getting nukes, and that is a big mistake.
Wildkkat1 1 year ago
@Wildkkat1 Alqaeda was formed and given financial support in the millions by the CIA around 1988 when Russia began withdrawing troops from afghanistan. The CIA wanted some control in this area, but they tried making demands to directly make them do or play in a manner that benefited the CIA they got the finger. Then CIA continued to harrass them until they declared jihad and everything else we all know. This was exactly what JFK was trying to stop until CIA killed him off.
