Well, that's because they use completely different touch-panel technologies. Resistive touch-panels can be multitouch, iirc, but the N8x0's isn't. "Fake" multi-touch like this could potentially still allow for simple gestures, such as rotate/zoom, and given that the device isn't even designed for that, that's still impressive.
