1) Most of the economic aspects of the US & China relationship were negotiated after Nixon resigned. 2) Your statement about Reagan is rather incredible, considering Reagan spent his first term in office raising tensions between the US and USSR. Nixon with detente drastically shifted US policy in regard to the USSR. 3) 500,000 troops were in Nam when Nixon entered office. The war was hardly coming to an end at that point. 4) Kennedy started the Apollo program, but Nixon did fund it generously.

I look up to Nixon and I know my history. I know the ggod history and the bad history about him. But I also know the planet is better off because of him. Nixon insituted detente w/ the USSR and opened relations w/ China, thereby easying Cold War tensions and making nuclear war less likely. He saved Israel from Arab destruction, while not alienating Middle Eastern countries (he was treated as a hero in Egypt). He started the EPA & OSHA to protect the environment in the US and to protect workers from unsafe workplaces. He desegregated more schools than had JFK or LBJ. Etc.

You apparently are not familiar with the Yom Kippur War and Nixon's role in helping supply Israel over the objections of the State Dept. Golda Meir recognized Nixon's aid. I'm glad that you are able to *know* that there would not have been nuclear war without detente (based on no evidence I imagine). Nixon helped open China to the rest of the world, leading to its recent turn toward capitalism and great advancements in prosperity for many of its people (obviously with a ways to go still).
