There are various reasons to dock tails. Many boxers will wag their whole rear ends with quite a bit of force, and undocked tails can end up repeatedly broken if they smack it against something hard like the wall or a door frame.

I have to agree with Lakaiguy17 in a way. I love Boxers and they are cute with and without their tails but because they are so tail wiggly their tails either get broken, hurt or they break something else. We have a Boxer in my shelter that just constantly injures her tail, and I do think it should be docked but I'm not sure if they can because of her age or whatever. They should be able to choose whether or not to keep their tails, but I would rather not see them get hurt all the time.

My boxer still got her tail, the only thing she breaks with it, is my stuff. To break her own tail, I think a building or something similar needs to drop on it, its massive. She's pushed my tabletop with her tail, which is made out of marble and weighs around 50kgs/110lbs The tail didnt even get a scratch.

I don't mind thou, its all worth it when you get home from work and her tail / entire body is rocking from side to side cus she's happy to see me.

Boxers are a specially bred dog, - often used for ' bear baiting ' , where they would go into the forest ( in Europe ), and , having tracked down a bear, would ' box ' it & annoy the hell out of it,

the bear would give chase, and the boxer would lead him straight into the hunters line of fire.

Very clever and very loyal, several problems could not be fixed, among them, the very thin tail, which was prone to breaking, - very painful, requiring repeat surgery.

docking is painless @ 48hrs.

ps. in Sweden for example, where docking is illegal since '87, 20% of boxers tails break, - the pain is excruciating and surgery is never fully successful.

The nerves aren't properly developed up to 48hrs. and no trace of pain has ever been detected when the tails are properly docked.

Try a boxer rescue. There are plenty of unwanted boxers because people thought they wanted one, but then they find out the dog is much for them to handle, so they get rid of it. Instead of paying a shit ton for a purebred boxer, try some rescues first.
