I love Charley!...and ur pretty awsome yourself...tjos vid is a great educational tool for all, especially those pf us who work at animal shelters. It'll probably save a few feline lives! Prrrrrr!
Charley and Family: From my 3 CH Cat, Baby Moo Moo, Gracie & Scooter, thank you for being a Voice for these most amazing Kittys! We love you and are so very proud of you and happy you are so loved! Thank you to your wonderful family for loving you as you are!!
i love your video. my cat, Steve also has cerebellar hypoplasia, and his prospects for adoption from the local SPCA were not very good until we fell in love with him.
since then he has practically overcome his disability, he can even go up and down stairs!
he is still pretty clumsy, though.
so happy to see these amazing animals finding forever homes with people who love them.
Thanks for making this. Charley seems to have a mild case, but even more severe kitties can do well with basic considerations. They do NOT need to be put down and are NOT sufferering. Only in extremely rare, severe cases is the impairment severe enough that it impacts the cat's quality of life. Charley is wonderful.
What a CUTE kitty!! I would love to adopt a cat like that, just to rescue one from being euthanized needlessly. Do they know what causes this condition? I volunteer for an organization that rescues cat from kill shelters and animal control. I have not come across a cat that has had this but I have only been volunteering for about 9 months so I don't have a lot of experience with cats being rescued yet.
I am so glad to see this video! We have a cat named Switch that has the exact same disorder! He is a very playful and happy cat, and even looks like Charley!
I saw this video years ago, and I fell in love with CH kitties. All I wanted to do was give a CH cat a good loving home. First, I adopted a kitty with a balance issue and head tilt, and tonight I'm adopting a CH kitten! Thank you so much for sharing Charley's story, it literally changed my life. I try to sponsor CH cats in shelters and in foster care whenever I can all because of Charley's video <3
Our Moë is the same, as is one of his litter brothers. Yes, very sweet! But he must sleep outside at night because one of the effects of his condition is poor bowel control :( We keep the doors open during the day but cannot at night. He is a beautiful and happy orange tabby : )
Great cat Charley is. I'm disabled too and he puts me to shame with his zest for life. Charley keep your whiskers up and your paws reaching for greatness.
I also have a cat with CH. She is my heart and soul. She is a Calico and I love when she tries to take a bath and does not quite always get herself. Thank you for this awesome video and Charley and making people aware that cats like this are great and can be as wonderful as any other cat, as well as entertaining like Charlie Chaplin. My cat's name is Goobie - as in Goobie girl! - ALLISON
My Mozart has a similar issue not sure exactly of the name but his back legs are flippy and he cant control his bladder and bowel movements. He's a joy to have and we did consider euthanasia, but couldn't bare to loose him. He's kept outside and is loved just as much as our other cats if more.
@irasema024 Yes! We found he doesn't have a good gauge on how hard to bite when he plays. He also overshoots sometimes, We were laying in bed and he wanted to jump up, first he jumped really high but didn't go forward, then he jumped completely over the bed and landed on the floor on the other side. He was fine thank goodness, but he really shocked us. Usually he climbs up chairs and the bed too which I prefer since his jumping skills are super powerful but uncoordinated.
He's a wonderful cat! Reminds so much of a cat I had named Charles. Charles was deaf in one ear, cross-eyed, a yellow tabby cat. He was really a joy, such a loveable cat. I'd take him to the vet and all the people would say "aw, what a sweetie!" So just because a cat isn't perfect physically doesn't mean he won't turn out to be a wonderful companion for many years. He's been gone 6 years now and I still miss him so much.
This video is beautiful. I rescued a ferrel kitten last summer and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. I thought she had a broken hip or something. After doing lots of research I found cerebellar hypoplasia. I was relieved to know what was wrong with her after confirmed by a vet, but sad she had to deal with this. She was slow, she twitched, fell over and blinked her eyes a lot. My family and I took very good care of her... Not even sure she would survive from the conditions she was
@zhadlife Charley's doing great right now. He's 5 and a half, and just a great pal to have around. We, and our other cats and dog, just love him dearly. Knock on wood, but his health so far has been fantastic.
What a wonderful cat Charley is....it is cats like this with cerebellar hypoplasia that make them all the more interesting to watch and interact with. Kudos Charley, you are a cutie. Thank you for posting this video to help inform people about this problem and that cats like this are not to be destroyed.
I had a Hymalayan Persian aka Mr. Scribble. He was an indoor cat but living in the south he was overcome / infested w/ fleas. It took 3 days ,a blood transfusion and steroid shots and he was good as new! He LOVED his daily baths I gave him, however he was wobbling and discombobulated. That is why I posted this and Charley...he and my other cat Baby Gurl tilted their heads when you (Charley) meowed!
I love Charley! He's clearly an adorable, much loved cat who is enjoying life to the fullest. Thank you for sharing his story and for encouraging others to adopt extra-special cats like him. <3
Thank you for making this video--it makes me happy, too! I am so glad you found each other. Keep up the excellent education for people who don't know what CH is. Yay, Charley!
Oh my goodness, this is by far the cutest video I've ever seen! Some people may see CH as an issue, but I see it has giving a cat more character & making them even more unique. <333 :D
thanks so much for posting this.. I had no idea.. we've had many cats.. one was totally deaf, and the sweetest cat you would ever want.. he lived 15 1/2years, Mewyou cat was our special little person in an all white fur coat. We miss him so much but now have 3 wonderful fur babies. One is a polydactile Footie cat. Charley looks so special and I know he is a very loving cat..
I don't have enough words for this video. And enough words for how the video influenced funwithdust and Tavi in their family. God bless all us wonderful people who rescue unwanted creatures, young, old or handicapped. They all are a blessing no matter who or what they are. This video is a huge inspiration, and Charley is such a lovely fellow......may you have a long and happy life!
Loved the video! Charley looks and acts a lot like our 16 year old CH cat Cisco. Cisco has more trouble walking but they have some of the same expressions and head movements. The UPS man found Cisco next to our shop as a kitten and he's done very well adapting over the years. He's one of the most friendly and loving cats I've ever known. Today he had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his back. Not sure how much longer he will be with us but 16 years is a long time so far.
Sweet kitty. I also have a CH kitty that I got from a shelter. He is so loving and silly. Thank you for saving Charley and giving him a wonderful life. This was a very sweet video. :)
Hi hepjo, my cat was just like Charley, its nice to see that there are others just like mine. He past away 2 months ago...only 7 years old. You keep good care of Charley and enjoy everything about him!
We have a CH cat that we got as a kitten, he is 5 now. We didn't actually know what his condition was called until a few days ago, as our vet didn't know what he had, and even tried to convince us to put him down. I just had to let you know how touched I was when I found your video - I even had a little bit of a cry, but in a good way! Keeping him has been one of the best decisions we ever made so thank you so much for managing to convey the utter joy a pet like this brings to your life :)
This video was shown today (08/02/2011) at the National Autism Conference in State College, PA, as part of a presentation on motor planning. Everyone was moved. Thank you!
How wonderful! Thank you so much for letting us know!!! Thrilled that Charley's film continues to inspire and educate people. As I type this he is laying on the bed in front of the fan with his tongue sticking out. He has no idea how many lives he has touched.
This video brought tears to my eyes. You have such a wonderful kitty, and his"problem" is nothing of the sort. I'm so glad you kept him and gave him such a beautiful home. Thank you!!
This video was so helpful in my adoption of Buster over 3 years ago..He doesn't walk anywhere near as good as Charley, but he doesn't know that! Still one of the more touching videos I've ever seen..Buster and I both hope that Charley is doing well, watching the world go by!
This is so adorable and brings a huge grin to my face~! I really hope this helps other people in making the decision to help and adopt cats and other animals like him. :3 <3
I totally LOVE this guy..... I love cats who have any form of physical handicap. I work at an animal shelter and always gravitate towards the cats who are blind, deaf, missing a limb or have cerebellar or radial hyperplasia.... They are the COOLEST cats in the whole world! So glad to have 'met' Charley! Thanks!
This is beautiful. I love my kitten, she is the closest thing I've ever had to a child and the best feline companion I've ever had. Thank you for showing a fellow cat-lover this, I'll spread the word.
Very cute. My own kitty has cerebellar hypoplasia, a little less severe than Charley. They are just the cutest things. We were cautious at first, but heard that cats with this condition live out normal, happy lives. We actually prefer our baby to other kitties since she isn't as interested in climbing up on things. It's also way too cute when she walks a few steps and flops down, pretending to do it on purpose. Or when she gets into a full run and her legs swing out around her.
this makes me sad and happy at the same time... i'm glad charley is in a loving home, and i hope other cats like him will get the same opportunities. :)
This video makes me happy, and gives me hope. 8 Months ago, I got my own 8oz, skinny, Cerebellar Hypoplasia kitty that couldn't stand up.He was at a rescue, and they were at a loss. The vets told them he wouldn't live a year.
We're two weeks away from his First Birthday. His name is Tavi, and he now weighs 7lbs. He runs from one end of the house to the other, and even challenges his big brother.
I want you to know, this video was very instrumental in my decision to take him. Thank you So much.
Our "Weeble" is 14 now and has had this condition since birth. He does very well, adapting over the years to the point where he rarely falls down. I worked at a vet clinic and just had to take him home. He was not considered a "desirable" adoptee. He have been a love!
I can't stop watching this, I don't know how many times I have watched it but every time it makes me smile :) I especially love the part where he's playing, you can see how much you care about and love him
The best thing about cats and dogs- they don't think less of themselves if they have a medical problem. A dog born without a leg or two just goes 'Whatever, I'm still a dog'. A cat like Charley says, "I'm a cat.' Not 'I am disabled" or "Different or ill or injured or anything else. I am still a whole animal"
I will have to look into this. I recently got a cat that is about a year old now and he had been a stray. He doesn't walk as disoriented, but he has a very similar walk at times. I am glad I ran across this.
Thank you for making this video. Even cats that do have special needs can be amazing pets, and when people are turning away wonderful animals, for even stupider reasons (like Black cats), these animals that do have what appear to be serious problems have an even worse time. I'm glad that there are people like you who take in and take care of cats that other people wouldn't! :)
I think I have just fallen in love. What a lovely cat and how lovely of you to give him a home and all that love. He obviously is thriving and returning your love. How wonderful. I definitely have a crush on him.
The most adorable PSA ever <3 I was never aware of this condition. I am glad to know it is painless and doesn't harm the kitty. At first I felt bad for alughing at him walking but then I realized he's one happy cat :)
This is absolutely adorable [:. People like you, showing the world that it's not the end of the world for your pet if it has a disability, give me hope.
The bit where he falls over into the cat bed gets me every time. So adorable. <3 What a lovely video -- I'm so glad you're taking good care of him, he looks like such a gutsy little guy. :)
Charley, your little drunken sailor :) Our cat has the same condition but she is so special I love her so much! This is a once in a lifetime cat, you'll never forget!
I am so grateful you posted this... I had a cat with exactly this. And he was so special, yet everyone was always putting him down and I had the vets telling me to euthanize him and get a new , "better" cat. I am so glad you care for your cat as much as I did, and love to see how happy he is. Oliver passed away last august from severe kidney dysfunction. I want you to know how much you have touched my heart by showing people that these cats are as good as any other, just a little quirky :)

This video was so helpful in my adoption of Buster over 3 years ago..He doesn't walk anywhere near as good as Charley, but he doesn't know that! Still one of the more touching videos I've ever seen..Buster and I both hope that Charley is doing well, watching the world go by!

People would do well to think like that.

I will have to look into this. I recently got a cat that is about a year old now and he had been a stray. He doesn't walk as disoriented, but he has a very similar walk at times. I am glad I ran across this.

just a quick question, is charlie aloud outside? Or is he an indoors cat?

@elitec21
Charley is indoors only... Where we live there is a lethal combo of coyote and traffic! He is safe inside with us.
