i have a problem,im new at linux, and i have open suse, and i whant to install programs, but the problem is,in windows a program is very easy to install, but here on linux, well i just simply dont know what to with this, how can i install a program that only has text?if someone know where i can find a tutorial or something to learn how to use linux, please say to me,or else i will return to windows again.
just check out any of the tutorials that your distro has, usually each distro has a master forum where u can go to to ask for help or find out new things as you are learning how to use linux.
Because to me linux is a novelty, and everytime I put it on my computer I get fed up with having to use command prompt to install software. I have yellow dog on my PS3, works like a charm. Maple on Ps3.
It really depends also on what version of Linux you're using...and if you know what you're doing most of the times you won't be using the command line nowadays...I never use it myself unless I "really" need to...and when I need to it's not very hard at all...
You may find lot of linux distros out there im=n market. But when it comes to documentation and support I believe the leaders will be openSUSE since backed by excellent Novell backend. Its all time that red hat has been word-to-word publicity. But openSUSE KDE was I felt comfortable quickly than fedora, ubuntu, yellow dog linux.
Give OpenSUSE 10.3 a try, you will love it. With YAST2 (yet another setup tool) forget yum tum .... :)
VISTA was developed in conjunction with the USA's Department for Homeland Security, it's a resource Hog and comes replete of spyware and key loggers. I am not kidding. Linux is the way
Well I don't know since when exactly but Microsoft has a deal with a lot of "security agencies" so they provide your private information to them...remeber that all "security agencies" are extremely corrupt like CIA, FBI and NSA!!!
I've got to say that I'm a Linux user that came from windows vista and i gotta say, you can set-up Linux to look like, or better than windows vista and it'll still be about 100% more efficient than vista.
PS. Vista's nothing but Microsoft trying to make some extra money...Only "WoW" is that it sucks ass!
You're comment is perfect really...my brother can use Linux with Beryl and full 3D effects (way better than crappy Aero), many programs running at the same time (he doesn't bother to close many programs) and everything runs smooth as butter and when you check the green light that turns yellow on the PC when the CPU it's working is always in green. He has 512ram, 2.4 AMD64 cpu (not slow at all but slow for Vista!), Vista is a system hog!
Of course it's more efficient to work in linux than, say, windows. A computer running unix or some variant of it is a tool. A computer running windows is an appliance. Although I wouldn't really say you've got a very efficient setup going here. Try the Ion window manager if you really want to work fast.
I'm a Windows and a Linux user. To say that Linux is more efficient than Windows is like saying that a hammer is the best tool to build a house with. It's true sometimes, until you have to measure something.
Linux can be a tool "and" an appliance...the Linux box is the primary PC at my household doing everything from office work to media center and even a little bit of gaming...you can use it for "anything"...and Amarok is just too amazing and makes want to think how the hell they distribute that high quality software for free...
how do you decode seom files? seom records much faster than recordmydesktop on my machine (i use intel graphics) but i still can't put my hand on away to decode it, or even view the output, can you help?
hey any idea on how to put ubunto+beryl on a Toshiba Satellite 17" Widescreen Notebook PC (P105-S6177). when i tried to put ubunto on my laptop about half of the checks at start up failed.

Does OpenSUSE support the PS3 hardware? also, why don't you put it on your computer?

Are you running KDE or Gnome?
I really want to get openSUSE, does anyone recommend anything before I (hopefully) install?
Thank you.

ubuntu 6.10 has problems with this laptop. The new version (7.06) should fix these problems. A simple google solved that problem ;-)
