There are still enough people (esp. guys) running around in this 90s "scarecrow" look. Tennis player Pete Sampras is (among others) the bastard who introduced a sports trousers-down to the knees-look (over even longer), you should have seen basket ballers in 1992, short shorts like tennis players back then + this all disappeared almost overnight due to the dictates of a stupid sports fashion industry.
According to "everybody loves our town", they'd been drunk all week before this gig, and had been in a bar fight in asbury park that week. Their regular drummers arm was in a sling, and couldn't play.
the drummer was on fire. my only complaint is it sound too "clean". but that could boil down to the kit or the sound guy, or both. drummer was badass though.
I think I kind of almost understand now why they and mark lanegan never became mainstream. they weren't the types to submit to a hell of a lot of other people's bullshit, too rowdy, uncontrollable, uncompromising and stubborn to their ideals, vision and their artistic integrity.
Ok so who was the drummer in this clip cause he doesn't look like the Tree's regular drummer and i think David Letterman's drummer was Anton Furst or Fig? i don't know was he some fill in replacement? just curious
I wonder what the "new" songs are. I have a demo from that period, when they tried unsuccessfully to get a new label, with the songs "Crawl Space," "Revelator," "One Way Conversation" and "Anita Grey." Pretty cool stuff.
Dave used to have the best musicians on his show. Some great artists made their network TV debut on Late Night/Late Show. For the last few years now he has had a lot of mediocre indie bands that we have never heard from again. Plus he has Regis on singing sometimes! Yuk.
you cant sound that hoarse unless u smoke and fight and fuck and LIVE that life. fucking screaming trees , LEGEND!these guys made childhood worth the little fuck-al it was worth.
@misfitgoku Yeah, but they were part of the Seattle grunge scene. I mean Nirvana wasn't from Seattle either. They were from Aberdeen, Washington. But they were both in the Seattle area and part of the scene.
LOL, remember those big boxes cd's used to come in? Until everyone complained that it was wasteful and the industry stopped making them. I wonder if old ones are worth money...
Man it just went by so fast. Seems like every week during the 90's some band was putting out a kickass album (not juse a single I mean albums)... then it just all ended over a weekend.
@scroggdogg28 I don't know, but tons of people have asked that question on this video. There's a story about what happened somewhere, idk. The drummer is Steve Ferrone.
Woo man he really growls that one out. Sounds like he was pretty hoarse. Probably just finished kicking some dude's ass and then ate him whole. Best music that was ever made: '88 - 94. I miss grunge. I miss my youth.
Woo man he really growls that one out. Sounds like he was pretty hoarse. Probably just finished kicking some dude's ass and then ate him whole. Best music that was every made: '88 - 94. I miss grunge. I miss my youth.
Yeah his voice is naturally low, but smoking is a big part of that rasp. I'm %100 percent sure that his voice wouldn't be that rough without smoking.
And you'll probably need a muff and a wah of some sort for this sound. I can get the tone down on some songs like "dollar bill", "julie paradise", "all I know", and on "bed of roses" with just a little fuzz.
Personally, I thought the drummer was awful in comparison with Barrett, sounds soul-less. Obviously he's a good drummer, but yeh, sounded way too 'clean' and crisp. No biggie though, still a great song...
@LBIsurf9 LOL!! no, back in those times if you put 2 cd's side by side they would take up the space the albums had prviously taken at the record stores. sumpin like that..
I'm a fan of Screaming Trees, but if anybody wonders why they never got as big as the other Seattle groups, look no further than Mark's performance: it's wooden and dull. Even if he had the greatest voice in the world, he simply wouldn't be compelling as a frontman. Compare him with Vedder, Staley, or Cornell and that's the difference.
@schuttz butthat was grunge was all about.. its was the emo of its time.. if you wanted to show the Eddie Emotion and jump like a fucking maniac you do that.. but if you wanted to sit in a blackened studio all lights out kurt style, we got the haunting rendition on Something in the way that made the album... simply put.. performance isnt everything..... and this is a ball buster of a song...
@schuttz I'm amazed he actually is able to get on stage. It's not that he's wooden because he doesn't know what to do it's that he has crippling social anxiety and in the older days, Screaming Trees era and stuff, the drugs were a huge part of it too. And they didn't get big because he was just sooo completely drugged up and the band was falling apart at the seams and it all was just not condusive to fame. He amazing though even if he's not a "good" frontman, his voice makes up for it.
@GRandPavisStalker - WHAT A SHAME! He sounds like Jim Morrison, the guitars are wild, and the drumming has that lazy but tribal sound of the early Pearl Jam stuff
@mtflesruoytsacdaorb I KNOW! But I do kind of like him in that twilight fame of not being known but being known... ^^ Oh and another factor is that ALL of them would get reeeaalllyyy drunk and do stupid stuff. 8P I agree though. Their music is great.... I wish their other albums were on itunes... TO AMAZON! 8D
lads relax. actually love this version with the drummer & schaffer etc totally into it - if you want the album version then listen to the album. same with pixies singin "trompe" on the show. totally unique.
