  • extra guitar by letterman band douchebag ruins it...fucking asshole.

  • worst band member replacements ever

  • Love this band , And Yes to 4my ,Morrison all the way.

  • ORIGINAL DRUMMER IS MUCH BETTER

  • I love 90's music, but i'm glad the clothes got stuck in that decade.

  • @cpowell786:

There are still enough people (esp. guys) running around in this 90s "scarecrow" look. Tennis player Pete Sampras is (among others) the bastard who introduced a sports trousers-down to the knees-look (over even longer), you should have seen basket ballers in 1992, short shorts like tennis players back then + this all disappeared almost overnight due to the dictates of a stupid sports fashion industry.

  • My dad went to high school with them (:

  • @chicaplac I don't believe you, enjoy your hand.

  • Van from Screaming Trees here. Go to my website strange earth records dot com to see what we are up to these days.

  • Haha black eye and Steve feronie is playing back up. They clearly got into a bar fight

  • I wish the 90's come back =( Mark Lanegan was a badass!

  • @felixXxiano He still is a badass! He's done a ton of stuff since then.

  • i love screaming trees but their live performances always make me disappoint.

  • the drummer is a fucking boss

  • i LOVE this song - takes me back

  • why dont lead singers sound (and look) like this anymore

  • yes...total jim morsion vibes...style and voice ..such an underrated band!!!

  • According to "everybody loves our town", they'd been drunk all week before this gig, and had been in a bar fight in asbury park that week. Their regular drummers arm was in a sling, and couldn't play.

  • @mojoro4 just read that book. Outstanding.

  • @europa99 which book i wanna read it

  • goddamn, Lanegan's voice is deep/hoarse. Fucking love it. Pure badass.

  • Does he remind anyone of MORRISON?

  • @4mydoors Yeah, was thinking exactly that :-)

  • @4mydoors yeah totally agree!

  • @4mydoors tom waits :)

  • @4mydoors yeah but hotter

  • uh.....Daven's band didn't back 'em that great. lol. shame...

at least he had 'em on.

  • the drummer was on fire. my only complaint is it sound too "clean". but that could boil down to the kit or the sound guy, or both. drummer was badass though.

  • Yeah they used to own Rodeo City Records. You really understand the name too if you're from Ellensburg. Fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ellensburg!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He nearly lost his voice

  • I think I kind of almost understand now why they and mark lanegan never became mainstream. they weren't the types to submit to a hell of a lot of other people's bullshit, too rowdy, uncontrollable, uncompromising and stubborn to their ideals, vision and their artistic integrity.

  • I love Letterman's face at the end after Mark throws food

  • in reply to curefreak, the drummer is steve ferrone, now drummer with tom petty's heartbreakers

  • Seriously. The drummer should put his tongue back in his mouth. Not cool at all.

  • Ok so who was the drummer in this clip cause he doesn't look like the Tree's regular drummer and i think David Letterman's drummer was Anton Furst or Fig? i don't know was he some fill in replacement? just curious

  • im suprsied, great voaclist, i think he means he nearly lost his voice lol

  • anyone know the type of rhythm guitar he's playing? Thanks.

  • Shorts and white socks on network TV. Man the early nineties were something.

  • HEHE 4:34 Pumpkin Hat!

  • I wonder what the "new" songs are. I have a demo from that period, when they tried unsuccessfully to get a new label, with the songs "Crawl Space," "Revelator," "One Way Conversation" and "Anita Grey." Pretty cool stuff.

  • i like sid

  • he's got a little GG Allin whisky burn voice going on.

  • Holy shit that bassist is fucking haggard.

  • New Screaming Trees record is coming out August 2nd on Sunyata records.....

  • @VANVALIS

    It's fuckin' great!

  • Perfect grunge...

  • pearl jam de cu é rola!

  • you cant sound that hoarse unless u smoke and fight and fuck and LIVE that life. fucking screaming trees , LEGEND!these guys made childhood worth the little fuck-al it was worth.

  • Steve Ferrone on drums ? ... Why?

  • sweet i was 9 years old but i remember a lot of it

  • luscious

  • are all those extra people from Letterman's house band?

  • The 17 dislikes are from the people who can tell this drummer sucks donkey dick.

  • Lanegan is king. He's Johnny Cash and Jim Morrison together.

  • How come Barrett didn't play with them but he showed up at the end?

  • @BlackFloyd94 because there was a sling on his left arm

  • @ScreamingTree3000

Ohh lol, I didn't even notice. I wonder if him and Mark got in a fight with someone.

  • @BlackFloyd94

    I think he was injuried.

  • Didn't know Tom Waits played in the Screaming Trees.

  • @oasisforever00 he also played in Queens of the stoneage too :)

  • @CerpinTaxt1983 haha ;)

  • hey letterman still has a nice head of hair. nice video, miss this band.

  • they are not a seattle band they are a band from ellensburg washington.

  • @misfitgoku Yeah, but they were part of the Seattle grunge scene. I mean Nirvana wasn't from Seattle either. They were from Aberdeen, Washington. But they were both in the Seattle area and part of the scene.

  • The Screaming Trees are on tour now!

  • Yes he got in a fight. It was AWESOME! It was at the Fastlane in Asbury Park NJ. Good times good times

  • A very cool band back then, but mark is still making very good music the album bubblegum for example.

  • very under-rated but what a great band. awesome. the guys with Sonar Mail wish they were still together

  • Mark Lanegan is awesome, but am I the only one who thinks he kinda looks like Will Ferrell with long hair?

  • ha ha Paul Shaeffer gettin off on the trees!

  • who is this drummer? he sucks

  • LOL, remember those big boxes cd's used to come in? Until everyone complained that it was wasteful and the industry stopped making them. I wonder if old ones are worth money...

  • Grunge??

Search for lastdime - do it the right way...probably one of the few grunge bands that have left...and I mean real grunge not fancy grunge

  • Man it just went by so fast. Seems like every week during the 90's some band was putting out a kickass album (not juse a single I mean albums)... then it just all ended over a weekend.

    Really dig these guys.

  • CALLING ME BACK ONCE AGAAAAAAAAIN

  • why wasn't barrett martin drumming here? anybody know?

  • @Montyg213 He got hurt in a bar fight.

  • @redtape09 are you serious. and i believe you but how do you know? and is that also why mark up there has a black eye and black drummer

  • @scroggdogg28 I don't know, but tons of people have asked that question on this video. There's a story about what happened somewhere, idk. The drummer is Steve Ferrone.

  • Does anyone now where I can get a full length version of Layne singing this?

  • Look at this grunge rock: /watch?v=m24Chv9wCdk

  • has anyone else noticed Mark Whalberg looks like Mark Lanegan

  • do all sst bands have that greg ginn guitar sound?

  • @lester5192 yeah man its seems pretty common among them but its a good soound

  • Woo man he really growls that one out. Sounds like he was pretty hoarse. Probably just finished kicking some dude's ass and then ate him whole. Best music that was ever made: '88 - 94. I miss grunge. I miss my youth.

  • @theTerribleFamiliar And I wish I had your youth.

  • @kuksugare88 You can have it! My generation is doomed! ;)

  • @theTerribleFamiliar Hah! How far back does your youth span?

  • Woo man he really growls that one out. Sounds like he was pretty hoarse. Probably just finished kicking some dude's ass and then ate him whole. Best music that was every made: '88 - 94. I miss grunge. I miss my youth.

  • there are 17 motherfuckers, i love grunge!

  • scary evil jay leno subliminal mind funk propaganda at end ? WTF?

  • Can you say Ellensburg?

  • barret martin has sure been tanning a lot...

  • does anyone have any idea how i make my guitar psycedelic like this? effects and stuff??

And besides, Mark said his voice naturally turned into this, and that his dad had a similar voice, so i hope no one picks up smoking bcause of him!

  • @Ekyvvsaq

Yeah his voice is naturally low, but smoking is a big part of that rasp. I'm %100 percent sure that his voice wouldn't be that rough without smoking.

And you'll probably need a muff and a wah of some sort for this sound. I can get the tone down on some songs like "dollar bill", "julie paradise", "all I know", and on "bed of roses" with just a little fuzz.

  • @IRISHPUNK676 Thanks dude! I'll write that down and buy some pedals!

  • His good in the vocal, but he isn't a really frontman...

  • great voice

  • @germansillies smoke about 50 cigarettes per day that you get a voice like him

  • They scared Dave!

  • Save the Treeeeees!

  • The Ghost! Long Live Lanegan!

  • I need a cigarette

  • Hahaha "I'll be honest with you; I was kinda scared." LOL. (4.02)

  • where is barrett? =(

  • Personally, I thought the drummer was awful in comparison with Barrett, sounds soul-less. Obviously he's a good drummer, but yeh, sounded way too 'clean' and crisp. No biggie though, still a great song...

  • Man, how many guitars do they have? I count three and a bass. Thats some amount of strings right there...

  • @bubshab Letterman's guitarist was playing with them. Yep, 3.

  • Ooh, Mark Lanegan had gotten in a fight. See his black eye?

  • @GRandPavisStalker it was his wife because he came back later last night.

  • @BanOxyCred Ah, I see....

  • they are not underrated..everyone who loves grunge and know many bands can agrees that they were great

  • What's the deal with the album Letterman shows in the beginning? Was it some sort of two disc edition?

  • @LBIsurf9 LOL!! no, back in those times if you put 2 cd's side by side they would take up the space the albums had prviously taken at the record stores. sumpin like that..

  • @LBIsurf90 the early CD's packages, looked like that

  • the end is the best XD

  • I'm a fan of Screaming Trees, but if anybody wonders why they never got as big as the other Seattle groups, look no further than Mark's performance: it's wooden and dull. Even if he had the greatest voice in the world, he simply wouldn't be compelling as a frontman. Compare him with Vedder, Staley, or Cornell and that's the difference.

  • @schuttz it's not just like that..this has to do with conflicts among the band..

  • @schuttz butthat was grunge was all about.. its was the emo of its time.. if you wanted to show the Eddie Emotion and jump like a fucking maniac you do that.. but if you wanted to sit in a blackened studio all lights out kurt style, we got the haunting rendition on Something in the way that made the album... simply put.. performance isnt everything..... and this is a ball buster of a song...

  • @schuttz I'm amazed he actually is able to get on stage. It's not that he's wooden because he doesn't know what to do it's that he has crippling social anxiety and in the older days, Screaming Trees era and stuff, the drugs were a huge part of it too. And they didn't get big because he was just sooo completely drugged up and the band was falling apart at the seams and it all was just not condusive to fame. He amazing though even if he's not a "good" frontman, his voice makes up for it.

  • @GRandPavisStalker - WHAT A SHAME! He sounds like Jim Morrison, the guitars are wild, and the drumming has that lazy but tribal sound of the early Pearl Jam stuff

  • @mtflesruoytsacdaorb I KNOW! But I do kind of like him in that twilight fame of not being known but being known... ^^ Oh and another factor is that ALL of them would get reeeaalllyyy drunk and do stupid stuff. 8P I agree though. Their music is great.... I wish their other albums were on itunes... TO AMAZON! 8D

  • @schuttz we are watching a video from a 1992 performance, that was 18 years ago!!, i think they did it just fine...

  • an underrated band

  • an underrated band

  • STEVE FERRONE

  • wheres barrett martin and whats up with marks black eye?

  • OJ Simpson on the drums everyone

  • lads relax. actually love this version with the drummer & schaffer etc totally into it - if you want the album version then listen to the album. same with pixies singin "trompe" on the show. totally unique.

    and lanegan's voice, wow!

  • I don't think I've ever seen Mark move so much....see. he dances!

  • I just love the way the guitar Conner is so happy about all that meal he's gonna have, and what he gets is that meal all over his head ;)

  • @ukeke7 "the guitar conner" thats funny,u said that before i think

  • ha ha love this band and song, the singer looks hung over ha ha

  • I think that drummer plays with Tom Petty now.

  • Damn this takes me back. This was during my Junior year of high school.

  • It would've been cool if it had actually been the Screaming Trees performing, and not some Trees and Paul Schaffer's band. Although Paul bouncing up and down in his seat was kinda funny.

  • How many packs of smokes did the lead singer blow through before this performance? LOL

  • why everytime someone says: "i think the drummes is lame" a dickhead appears and starts fight?

is just an oppinion, is not a review in a magazine

  • genial este tema!!

  • where is Barrett???????

  • 90's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is good music! This is good rock'n roll!

Please, someone kill all bands of present tense...

  • i miss the 90's

  • :30

  • @hinatahyuugachick That comment made me smile.

  • I follow musicians 10 20 30 and 40 yrs older than me lol

  • Heh heh, I know where he got that shiner. It was a fun night

  • @tankaroo Can it be revealed?

  • The dude with the les paul ROCKS!!

what a great voice and vocalist!!

    a real band..

  • I am about 20 years too young, I should have been there. What was I thinkin, getting born in the end of the goddamn eighties?!?!?!!!!! There ought to be a hotline where one could complain, like "I am sorry this ain`t what I ordered. I paid for Generation X and I want it. Now!"

  • @SuperBlindguy, nah you're only 10 years too young because most people follow musicians 10 years older than they are. And besides it's nothing you can control. The music was better back then, yes, but that's why you can enjoy this on YouTube. Let's face it, none of us can turn back time.

  • Black dude on drums FTW!

  • FUCK YEAH!!

  • It's like I hate his voice soo much that I love it. and can't get enough....

  • @uwukillnevertell what?lol

  • This is music with balls!!!

  • which one of them was in mad season?

  • @Deathbysodamachine

Well Mark Lanegan did some writing/singing with Mad Season, but mostly it was Barrett Martin, who isn't playing in this clip.

  • @Deathbysodamachine the drummer man

  • fuckin massive voice he has

  • best song ever on letterman

  • i fuckin love this song!!

  • Haha, what's with all the fucking session musicians? (Maybe they do this for all bands on Letterman? I'm not American so I've never watched the show).

Bizarre to see these scruffy long-hairs rocking out with the slick house-band guys, pretty funny actually. Great song

  • @hexenductionhour Yes, Paul and the band always back up any band appearing on Letterman. Its been this way since the show started in the 80's and even back to Paul's run on SNL in the 70's.

  • Where was Barrett Martin??
