I LOVE getting keratin treatments done. My hair is fabulous, and as for any nay-sayers who talk about the formaldehyde need to understand just how minuscule the amount is released. It's practically nothing. On my hair, there wasn't even any sort of smell, no stinging my eyes, no problems at all.
@STARSHINE852 Yes. Any chemical processes and dyes should be done before the treatment. Keratin treatment will also "seal" color into hair, so it'll actually make it last longer. :3
i did the brazilian blowout too! love it! i even made a video to show people how it's like after two weeks cause some people may wanna see how it looks weeks after the service or how long it takes to get ready after doing the treatment. :-)
I just read an article that said that some of these products contain unsafe amounts of formaldehyde, which is a carcinogen. I am interested in this treatment, but would rather deal with frizz than cancer. Still researching.
@Newlyblond I've researched this in detail. The formaldehyde is how the keratin is bonded to the hair. There are claims that you can get "formaldehyde free" products but it instead they hide the formaldehyde in other ingredients. The formaldehyde comes out in gas when you flat iron. As long as you use gloves and are in a well ventilated area, you should be fine.
Keratin treatments for smoothing and straightening hair often utilize either formaldehyde or glutaraldehyde.
The most effective measure of safety to avoid the excessive levels of these vapors can be obtained by using a chemical source capture system with one or more salon room air purifiers.
These systems have been tested by scientific expert Doug Schoon and have been found to be an effective means for lowering exposure to safe levels.
i had this 'treatment' done at a dominican salon last year. while my hair felt very soft, and was very straight, my hair became very thin! it took about 3-4 months before my hair returned to its normal and curly appereance.
I'm not a hundred per cent sure about this, but I've heard that it is safe for children twelve and over. Again, if I were you, I'd check with an experienced hairdresser first.
@MoneyBEATSsoul the treatment is strictly made of conditioning proteins && preservatives. Im n cosmetolofy school and we are learning and performing this treatment application...It can even be done on colored or chemically treated hair but it is very costly.
the treatment is done with or without Formaldehyde or Ether. The one without will only help smooth out the hair and works as a great conditioning treatment, the one with 2% or 4% will straighten it more.
Does anyone know of any beauty salons in New york that do the Brazilian Keratin?

how do you undo the treatment to get your hair back to before?
surferwatcher 2 years ago
@surferwatcher i would say use a sulfate based shampoo when you wash your hair, and it would return back to original state.

Uh... that has formaldehyde in it, you would think gloves would be necessary. That shit will give you cancer.

If it's Brazilian, more than likely it will work on kinkier hair types.
