Did you need to take a test to go to Japan? Exactly what classes do you take and how do you catch up when learning in a language you don't understand well?
@pakstar097 I didn't have to take any language tests... The program I used for exchange was Rotary and I had to have sufficiently good grades to qualify and then go through a series of 3 interviews in order to get accepted into the program and have a chance at going to going to a different country.
I wasn't expected to actually participate in the day to day classes because I didn't speak Japanese. I usually just sat in my desk and read a book haha. Picked up Japanese quickly though.

Demn, im 19 -_- cant go to high school in japan anymore xD but still i have a chance, if not a STUDENT then i will become a TEACHER xD even though my course aint about how to teach or so, i would still give it a shot! not now but someday....
@r0gUe14 for most schools in Asia, teachers don't get their own classrooms. The students do :D Students are placed in a classroom where everyone takes the same subjects, the teachers are the ones who come and go. Hope I explained that well enough :)

Very minor differences exist, such as how eating is usually not permitted in the classroom except for special occasions, but the biggest difference I see is that we westerners are not half as well behaved. We're a wild bunch, with next to no self control or respect for others (maybe I'm being a bit harsh).

I'm an American high school student and am fascinated by this video. The students seem overall more disciplined than the average American classroom. One thing though.. I guess some teachers don't mind if you sleep in their class..? I've always thought Japanese schools were much more strict, stricter than American schools. In my school, if you fall asleep, teachers get very angry and punishment is involved.
@Audiomuse Yeah it surprised me too that students would sleep in class. Generally it is because they have been up studying so late or doing homework... not necessarily because they are lazy.
@BonsaiBlog yea i googled japanese high school systems and i read an article abt it. japanese students from get alot of stress. home work clubs ,'Juku' and sports. they often have to spen 12 hours in school or doing some kind of sstudying.thats why we see teens out and abt in the malls and shopping districts cuz they just wanna relax

@Audiomuse - I know what you mean.... Since I was a child I use to go to school in Philippines. When I was 7 I transfer school in Osaka, and when I started my high school life I went to England. In my opinion East Asian Education is the best out there. I mean student greet their teachers, and respect them. I was thought as a child that teachers is my 2nd parents and the school is my 2nd home, but here in England they swear at their teachers, and act as if school is their turf. I hate Pakistanis.

@jeffagain1 lol i found the answer by accident, turns out after WW2 when american troops where in japan and they wanted to take pictures and such in order to come off as more friendly they would throw peace signs and evidently the younger female population took a liking to it and its been there ever since

I'm an American high school student and am fascinated by this video. The students seem overall more disciplined than the average American classroom. One thing though.. I guess some teachers don't mind if you sleep in their class..? I've always thought Japanese schools were much more strict, stricter than American schools. In my school, if you fall asleep, teachers get very angry and punishment is involved.

@Audiomuse Yeah it surprised me too that students would sleep in class. Generally it is because they have been up studying so late or doing homework... not necessarily because they are lazy.

@BonsaiBlog yea i googled japanese high school systems and i read an article abt it. japanese students from get alot of stress. home work clubs ,'Juku' and sports. they often have to spen 12 hours in school or doing some kind of sstudying.thats why we see teens out and abt in the malls and shopping districts cuz they just wanna relax

@Audiomuse Y'know, I heard that some Japanese workplaces allow a 10 minute power-nap to recuperate stamina. I may be wrong, but that's what I heard from someone.

@Audiomuse - I know what you mean.... Since I was a child I use to go to school in Philippines. When I was 7 I transfer school in Osaka, and when I started my high school life I went to England. In my opinion East Asian Education is the best out there. I mean student greet their teachers, and respect them. I was thought as a child that teachers is my 2nd parents and the school is my 2nd home, but here in England they swear at their teachers, and act as if school is their turf. I hate Pakistanis.

@sairys1 For most programs all you need is a 4 year college degree so if you major in biology you could still be an English teacher :)
