  • Better listen to the original song. This is so sad for me. R.I.P Shannon.

  • This guy was pretty talented, I've definitely heard better, but his true talent was abusing drugs. I know that's sad to say, but he realished that rock star lifestyle and indulged on just about any drug he could get his hands on. Watch VH1 Behind the Music - Blind Melon. He was on a collision course with death. Sucks for his daughter.

  • Before this man was ever conceived, the world knew of the dangers of drug use, and why is anyone surprised? True, Christianity is not for everyone, that is why hell will be so full. God loves this man as much as anyone, unfortunately he didn't love himself enough to feel god about himself. What a waste and what a shame. A job playing music, traveling and having the world at your feet and that wasn't enough?

  • @pigjubby1its human nature to want more

  • Great song, but yea a little depressing knowing he would die soon after.

  • This is actually really depressing.

  • yeah but he sounded fucking great GREAT !!!

  • see how he has long sleeves on? to hide the track marks. he died in 95.

  • @massivebig1 He died less than a month after this video was taken. He looked pretty sick here.

  • Shannon is my biggest inspiration. Looking at him in this video brings tears to my eyes. He looks so beautiful, but so terrible. The man had the voice of an angel. Drugs, along with many others, took Shannon's life. His music will always be an inspiration to people of all ages. I'm a 15 year old kid and discovered Blind Melon at a bad point in my life. Long live in our hearts, Shannon Hoon.

  • @EDM1336 im 14 and sicover Blind Melon when i was 13( im 14) and I had a pretty bad time in my life too my grandma died and it seemed everyone hated me at the time. I love Blind MElon and I always will and I just love shannon HOON;)

  • It's hard to believe that's Shannon right there :(

  • LOL Shannon's Trippin! Amazing though

  • It's alarming how much his appearance changed over such a short time

  • wow. a month before he died.

  • @roadman89NE fine, smoke pot and put the hard shit away. The music wouls still be relateable without that garbage.

  • C'mon folks I've been waiting all day to be pounded on here for my last comment? Where are the cult fans? And I am a huge Blind melon fan, but I don't worhip a man. Also before i do get hammered on I'll be proactive in my defese that just because someone's a christian doesn't mean they have to have a stick up their ass. i'm sure Shannon hated bible thumpers, and maybe for good reasons. I'm not bashing on any sins he has, I just know life if full of choices and his led him underground. sucks

  • They just don't make them like this anymore.

  • As many addicts do....when they are clean their tolerances go down....when they relapse it can kill.....they do the same amount....different high...Brad Nowell from Sublime......same thing

  • Shannon Hoon was almost completly finished rehab and he had a counselor come on his tour with Blind Melon to watch over his drug intake. Before he left he told his counselor that he would be fine, and that he didn't need him since he was pretty much sober at the time. The counselor then left. Hoon's preformance wasn't particularly good one night in Houston and then went on a full out heroin binge that night. Unfortunatly his bandmated failed to wake him the next morning, he died of a overdose.

  • The drugs are what took him to the places that inspired him to be who he was. The flame that burns twice as bright can only burn half as long... :(

  • They stink!

  • @cabrongordo Why don't you just go home!!! AND SHUT YOUR FACE ABOUT BLIND MELON!!!

  • @LayneCobain88 - OK! I will, but they still SUCK!!! Lol

  • @cabrongordo i feel really bad for you... it's a shame that u can't receive the same feelings that they transmit to me every time a listen to a song of them

  • @peppersonstage -dont feel bad for me, feel bad for the people that this guy let down.......Music is a part of of my life, just not as big as it use to be, as we grow older we change, we become a BIT more resopinsible with the passing years, the music that use to move me as a teenager or young adult no longer does, as we grow older our priorities change.....you will see. : )

  • @cabrongordo that means that you are another pawn in this world.... you didn't feel anything music related, so your point of view is not as strong as you think ,and you shouldn't think that all the people are like you, inmature and without feel.... :l

  • You can tell that in the videos of him with shorter hair (deepest into the drugs) that his voice is like struggling to sing.. You know kinda like when you're REALLY drunk & trying to sing kareoke & you are trying as hard as you can but you know you dont sound right? Like that, cuz you're mind is elsewhere. But in the older videos, where he has long hair & was just getting started.. He is amazing <3 I love Shannon forever, RIP Mr. Hoon.

  • fuck you voro122 in both.

  • I think he looked better in long hair. No homo.

  • that's perfect!

  • SOUP WAS AWESOME

  • Two dislikes????? fuckin idiots.

  • This is my favorite song right now. i love this band and shannon. a race car doesn't kill a driver unless or until he loses contol. it's same with drugs, alcohol, and all kinds of things. focus on shannon's talents and not his flaws or mistakes because we all have those...but few of us have his level of talent. much respect.

  • Excelente tema,

  • Wow, Blind Melon was at their best. And he had to be selfish :(

I miss you Shannon, And I'm only 12.

I believe God wanted someone to sing for him :)

    Shannon,

When I die, I want to meet you in Heaven :)

    -Ranger

    :)

  • last year he was alive

  • this was a month before he died, he had so much more in him musically, it sucks he got into hard drugs, you can tell he's pretty f*cked up right here

  • This show was dead on for Shannon! His voice was perfect.Damn I wish I could see what he would be doing now because rock n roll is suffering greatly.Esp without the likes of Shannon ,Kurt,Layne and so on.

  • a tortured soul that gave many joy...thank you shannon

  • the only people bitching are kurt cobain lovers who are jealous that blind melon was way better nirvana

  • @itsafalsebelief lol right!

  • @itsafalsebelief My sentiments exactly!

  • Shannon was so fucked up at this point.

They were definitely not in t heir prime in this video.

    haha.

  • @FallPersonchick

  • fuck yourself asshole do you really have nothing better to do?

  • actually no. you act like you knew the guy. it was just a joke lighten up.

  • RIP Shannon.

  • wow this was less than a month before he died... :(

  • awesome voice

  • yes, this is a sad storey, and quite a shame how he let it go.

  • dont. feed. teh. trolz.

  • Comment removed

  • So very true!!!!!

  • I would have to agree people. Yes he was a drug addict but that does not make a character. It something he did and yes we all wish he would'nt have. But how many of you hipacrites are doing drugs now? He was a good man, and inspired many people. and if you don't like it or agree then don't waste your time being an asshole... may he rest in peace and his story live forever

  • Well said!!! :)

  • @dbiz2686 i don't wish he didn't do drugs. I just wish they didn't kill him.

  • @dbiz2686 Dude, Your comment just brought a tear to my eye. Thank you...

  • @dbiz2686 I'm not trying to disagree or say anything, but it does show a bit selfishness. "Drug adicts" are selfish.

  • You aren't trying to say anything? Yet you make such a bold claim about addicts?

Selfishness is a CHOICE, addiction is a lot harder to fight than your conscience.

  • @GojiraFFP Maybe so. Most likely when someone gets into hard drugs their finished, already dead. However we have all heard of people recovering, haven't we? Everyones cicumstances are different, some people have nobody- no support from anyone who cares. This is not the case with Shannon. I know he inspired many people, but perhaps if he embraced a better faith like Christianity instead of "I was a larger then life hippie, but now I cut my hair and preach on Letters from a Porcupine then die"

  • @nottheduck1 Recovery isn't always needed. I'm not trying to make drugs out to be less dangerous than they are, but not everyone gets hooked and overdoses. And while I don't entirely know what his attitude was towards the end of his life, Shanon Hoon caused more good than he did bad. Christianity isn't for everyone. You have to do a lot of believing in things that don't exist and thinking you're superior to people with other beliefs. I'd say the love Shanon preached was a lot more universal.

  • @GojiraFFP maybe some Christains think they're superior, bu you dont' have to be a Christain to follow God's principles. Look at Ghandi and Einstein. Many people appplt the priciples of God's word and find success. If you don't believe in Christ you can still operate the law of believing that he taught. I love Shannon, but he should have believed to stay alive and he would be.

  • @GojiraFFP actually you are only required to believe that jesus christ is the son of god and died to save humanity (depending upon sects). my point is dont say things like that... thats the same thing as me saying that if you do drugs you WILL die... theres always the "other" side of the fence man. just pointing out that your statement is hypocritical. you just did the same thing to Christians that the other guy did to stoners.

  • @nottheduck1 EVERYONE IS SELFISH

  • @Iguanababe221To a degree

  • good words, dbiz2686: He's dead cause of much too alluring drugs and we can't change that fact. but the music he did with blind melon is still alive and I'm grateful for that and enjoy listening to it.

  • @dbiz2686 Fuckin A, dude!

  • Actually it was cocaine and herion overdose timmybobdiss

  • shannon was on cocaine and he was all wasted but even in this video in that state of his body and soul you can feel the real, pure art in his voice and everything what he was trying to say.also, you may like me -feel a call like to help him that he is shouting,but...well thats what sucx!!!no one could help him...but in spite of every these shits bout drugs SHANNON IS AND WILL FOREVER BE *SOUL ONE* ...

  • If Shannon Hoon could come back from the dead, he would probably say ... "cocaine is a hell of a drug..."

  • are you sure?.. i don't think so... if you have an adicction is not like that...

  • Well I don't think so either. I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. Since he died from a coke overdose, I was jesting at that point. Which yeah I know it's nothing to joke about but I said it.

  • I thought it was a herion overdose...?

  • Nah man this guy was cocaine.

  • it was the worst mix you can do ever... cocaine, herione and alcohol.... sad uh?

  • he doesn't look so good, I can't recognize him

  • Wow they are Fucking trippin balls.

  • I don"t care what anybody says...... He was good...... He chose a wrong path in life..... many of us do it... I will know forever that Shannon was a good guy, but just got caught up in the wrong shit... I wish he was still around....

  • Shannon was a huge talent, I saw Blind melon in Salem, Oregon of all places with Big Audio Dynamite and P.I.L. and again with Pearl Jam and Neil Young at Portland Meadows and they were really on both times. . With their dreamy sound it takes me away to some great times with The Dead and fun summer outings in our old VW bus. I turned on a lot of brothers and sisters to Melon and it still holds up today. Thats the beauty of music, it lasts forever....Peace.

  • Wow, really well said, and its really sad i might add, how terrible shannon really looked towards the end. Just like Staley he got really caught up with substance issues in the end, and sometimes its just too much for people.

  • @fv593duys That Neil Young , Pearl Jam concert was the best time of my life!!. I was at those shows also. I need a hot tub time machine!!

  • @greenfish567 I may have seen you there brother...I was the one with the big smile on my face!!! Good times and glad I got to share them with you!! Neil is playing at The Schnitz soon....got your tickets??? See you there!!

  • @fv593duys shit dude I am only 13 I would love to be you, seeing big audio dynomite AND Blind melon and pearl jam and neil young?!?!?!

  • @TheMrinternet You have a great taste in music!! There is a lot of it out there, you just have to find it....have fun!!

  • @fv593duys I completely know what you mean! When l first heard Blind Melon I went and got the CD. Nobody I knew had even heard of them yet. This was before the No Rain video was out. I would make cassette tapes and tell my friends '" You MUST hear this"!!! Do all I could to spread the sweet sound. I still get folks telling me "hey I remember when you turned me on to Blind Melon" and thanking me. Don't thank me at all. I just showed you some music. Thank Melon, that's where the connection is.

  • @MrChucke05 .....well said man, and thats just it for me too, I love to see and make people happy. Music is just one of the things I love to share. This album will be relevent for a long time and without a doubt, will be a "must have" for anyone that really gets it. This stuff is not easy either, there is a lot going on in these tunes, thats what turned me on to them. Take care brother.

  • he died a month later...

  • in this performance Shannon was on Opium, which is what heroine is made from my friends.

  • dude h wasnt on opium he was on speedballs coke and herion mixed

  • Shannon Hoon's singing voice sounds like an elderly person.

  • this sounds bad because its a bad quality recording, go check out this song live at much music, its from the same time period, the performance is captured much better.

  • it's seems to me that singers are more vulnerable when it comes to addiction

  • It's cos there always at the for front of everything and are usually the voice of the band (singers are also just a different breed of people they really are haha)

  • true it seems like there's always somethin diffrent bout the singers. some kind of unique-ness.

  • Whenever I feel like crap I put on Blind Melon and especially the beauty and madness of Soup! RIP Shannon

  • My generation will never againe witness the talent of artists like Hoon, Brad Nowell, Layne Staley, or Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone). I dont agree with new singers joining bands in this situation. Its a no win situation, just greed.

  • ...or it's the only way for the remaining members continue doing what they love most. Also, it gives fans who weren't around in the golden days a chance to see what they missed. But yeah... greed totally.

  • It seems that folks don't like the fact that you're speaking the truth, but it is the truth!!! He sounds awful!! And what's more, he looks even worse. It sucks that he's gone, but drugs are fucked. Period.

  • I was 18 when Shannon died. I've always been into the bands of the 80's, like my favorite Def Leppard n' Poison, Skid Row, etc. But I think when it comes to the 90's, Blind Melon with Shannon's vocals & talent conquers the 90's decade.

  • he is very strung out.

  • I will never ever forget this band in my life !

I'm like a musical library, know tons of bands from the late 60ies up to now. If I had to pick only one band for choosing the greatest band there ever was, I'd pick blind melon !!! Without hesitating !!!

  • he was great friends , in some way this say drugs could stop lost great musicians and people .

  • best galaxie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yummy.

  • We miss you Shannon.....

  • less than a monthe before he died =(

  • He was on death's door. Then he passed away not too long after this. He needed to be in long term rehab, it works

  • wow this was only about a month before shannon's death..he doesnt look too good in this video..i wish i could have experienced blind melon in their prime and when they were huge..im a 19 year old that belongs with the music of the 90s...RIP Shannon

  • rip shannon. you will always be missed.

  • Seeing him in these clips is like a punch to the gut. Still such a painful loss. Musical genius.

  • Really good version . Probably the only time ive seen it live , with Shannon . This clip took me back to that fall of 1995. It was a very crisp fall. This band was about to take a huge leap in quality i think. And they already were one of the best touring bands at that point in time. This song was the perfect opener to their album , and such a strong song . And so well played in this video clip . Such energy & power .. and complete musical beauty RIP Shannon

  • legendary...

  • rolling stone you need to shut up

  • Ford Galaxie

  • so good. fuck off rolling stone.

  • dude why are you telling me to fuck off?

  • seriously fuck off rollingstone.

  • are you kiddding me?? wtf is ur problem why are you tellhing mee to fuck off?

  • im geussing he told you to "fuck off" cause you said this, " I was born in that year", it kinda gets annoying when people are just talking about themselves and not what is shown and it comes off ass conceded, or it could be that he hates ur user name maybe anyways just ignore it, just listen to the tunes

  • oh okay thanks, didnt mean for it to sound like that.

  • that was the year i was born. such a talented artist RIP shannon

  • that's a shit storm of goodness.

  • Is that his makeup or is he really that strung out :(

  • He's really that strung out.

  • William Borroughs said that drugs can open doors....the trick is using them effectivly...very very hard....Shannon was very talented...I love listening to him...but he didnt tame the beast....good luck to all that try

  • im currently trying to taim the beast lol its a bitch im from cali and a raider fan also, there garbage though

  • drugs help creativity, no question......... take some and see

and the person who worked in a record store and doesnt know who jeff buckley is, well that must have been a crap record store

also the person who thinks shannon doesnt stand along side the greats, your not really listening...

  • jeff buckley? you're entitled to your opinion, (i've never listened to jeff buckley) and i worked at a record store for 4 years. im gonna be honest no one cares about jeff buckley. shannon hoon was like a supernovae who burned birght and in the end unfornately collapsed in on himself. hoon ranks amongst some of the great front men of all time; robert plant, jim morrison, zac de la rocha, maynard keenan.

  • I dunno where you are from. I guess that maybe your not from europe. Here we rate buckley enormously i urge you to check out grace. Amazing voice amazing songs. If you say hoon is a charismatic frontman then i agree. But all those names you've thrown at the end i say are miles ahead of hoon in every level.

  • In my opinion I don't think you're listening to what Shannon is talking about. He was a lyrical genius to the tenth degree. I believe hiim to be one of the greatest ever, firmly. For example this song is centered around the line "Im more at home in my galaxy" when you first hear it.. it doesn't make sense what so ever. How can one be more at home in the galaxy, the universe? Then, if you put some thought into it.. you realize he's talking about is Cadillac Galaxie. He personifies his car to...

  • No way man.... Hoon ranks right along the side of all those...

  • AMEN

  • Jeff Buckley was the freaking man. So was Hoon. I love em both.

  • i absoutely love 120 MINUTES too bad they play it at fuckin 4 AM on vh1 classic while Totally 80's is on at 1 am. really wish it were the other way around

  • Damn, 120 MIN...this show was tremendous. Now MTV sucks ass.

  • you kids and your drugs

  • Man, he looked high as a kite! Look at his eyes. They have that doped up look IMHO. What a waste, I loved the album Soup.

  • that look in his eyes is mascara... tho no doubt he's doped up in this video.

  • I was actually talking about the droopy eyed look he had. Go to 1:38, pause the video, and you'll see what I mean. Again, what a waste. I must admit that their new singer is pretty good. Wishing well (from their new album) is really good.

  • Well, remember what Bill Hicks said...

If you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, then go home and burn all your records, all your tapes, and all your CDs because every one of those artists who have made brilliant music and enhanced your lives? REAL fucking high on drugs.

  • You have a valid point. It's a shame that the drugs take over with some artists (like Shannon Hoon). I wonder if he needed to snort, shoot up, or whatever before going on stage just to perform? Truly a waste.....

  • bill hicks is a moron. it is true that a lot of musicians do and have used drugs in the past this does mean that drugs are necesarry for them to create great music. I wonder how many great blind melon songs were written while hoon was wacked out on heroin. my guess is none. drugs make you less intelligent, in many cases slower and less aware of your surroundings all things that are not beneficial to creating great music.

  • Your a moron. He may not have needed them but they had something to do with his writing. His addiction to herion is a reason he wrote a lot of the songs he did, but drugs expand your mind and helps make great music. If you don't believe me listen to BM, or Pink Floyd.

  • Hey CRK140 = Hoon tottally wrote on drugs man.... LOL... You gotta do some research

  • have you ever been around someone on heroin? ever seen someone who is addicted to heroin? believe me i have and i do. Ever seen anyone on heroin do anything "creative" or meaningful? I have not. drugs or the drug addictions of musicians generally come well after they have attained great musical talent and sucess. news flash drugs kill brain cells. the more drugs you take the less intelligent you will become. the insinuation that drugs can produce enhanced creativity is logically false.

  • wow your a fucking idiot. so many bands write their music when there on drugs

  • have you ever known a person on heroin or a person addicted to heroin? Trust me, i have and believe me, they are not writing any great music.

  • crk140, u really think that? just name one person/band who was NOT on drugs that made a really good song.

  • radiohead

    jerk

  • maybe hallucenogens, certainly not heroin. name one to disprove me

  • Miles Davis

  • John Coltrane

  • true. all true.

  • Better to go out high than sober. Good tune.

  • It's cool but bittersweet to see Shannon's last performance. Thanks for putting this up.

  • To possess great talent and acheive something that affects people and then destroy yourself doesnt make you a genious it makes you a tragic travesty, a hard taught lesson to others . Loved the music sorry you had to go.
