  • @InsertName125 no, it's just who says which way is the proper way to do it but when people say that you need to do lunges the right way they mean this way. It's quoted because people call it the right way as other people do it a different way which is not strictly wrong but it's not the best way to do it.

  • @weathered79 do it with your shoulder against a wall, dont lean on the wall but use it to keep u balanced. or have a friend hold you gently

  • Generally he gives good instruction; however, there are many ways to do lunges. That whole "don't let your knee go over your toes" thing is a myth. Everyone says that; however, check yourself when you walk up stairs - chances are your knee is over your toes. Also, if having the knee over the toe is so bad, then what about his BACK knee? His back knee is WAY over his foot.

    Look at a tennis player lunging for a ball - his/her knee goes WAAYYY over his/her toe.

  • @bsumiko When you control your movement you work your muscles more intensely. And unlike natural movements or any sports, these types of exercise are supposed to sculpt your muscles. So maybe it's not completely wrong to bend the knee, but for more faster results you need to control.

  • @CheapSteaks Personally i have noticed that this is better Developer for leg balancing than the Squats. Squats Stress the quads+Thighs quite heavily in my case, and my Butt starts pointing out. In my opinion this is Better for inner muscules + Core , than the Squats,... So Answer is yes. It can make your thighs Smaller if u Follow a Good Eating lifestyle. Bodybuilder Milos Sarcev said nice things about this Movement too.

    8x25 pushups, 8x25 curls, 8x1 minute planks, 8x10 squats, and 2-5 miles running every day, this will add great leg strengthening to my routine, thanks

  • This is really great stuff. Gonna add this to my routine. For beginners do 8-10 reps (each leg) 3 sets with about 10-15 seconds rest. Do this every 2-3 days and enjoy some results. Have fun.

  • thanks Dude, thats how ive been doing them to the Tee!! years ago i'd use weight but its not needed, i also do widergrip chinups, basscially i circuit train, been lifting since 1978:) use to bench 180lbs 3s and squat 265lbs back n my 30s, not im lean and mean and a Vegan:)

  • i was doing some dumbbell lunges yesterday and pulled an upper ab muscle pretty bad, at least that's what I think happened. I'm hoping it will heal up good as new, but I won't be doing any ab exercises real soon. So word to the wise, be careful doing lunges....

    Which leg do you push off?

  • there are both way you actually have most of your weight on the front leg, you can either push off wit hthe front leg and go back, or you put your back behind you and then push forward, the lifting of your leg while going backward should be exaggerated so that the foot is kept away from the ground, that's just more effective, try out both it's just different for your muscles and coordination

  • I have that same problem with running as well. After a while, my knee caps hurt and if I keep running disregarding the pain, I end up losing cartilage quicker.

  • Do you guys have some good running-shoes? Most of the time, that is the problem. If you bought them at your local supermarket they aren't good, they just cause your more pain than stability when running.

  • when it comes to running choose either nike or asics...good support. buy 2 shoes and alternate it everyday. may hurt ur budget but its my best advice of rescuing your knees

  • Imagine a lake. take a bucket and scoop out some water from the lake. Does the lake have a hole in it where the water used to be? no. The decrease in the lake's water level was shared, not just in one spot. This is how fat loss works.

    This exercise will work your upper lower body (butt and thighs).

    Remember to eat more lean protein (chicken, turkey, fish, tofu) as opposed to bad carbs (white bread and sweets) in order to help your body's muscles grow.

  • also, assist your body by consuming protein consistently. I'm meaning little meals every 3 hours or so. Assuming you have a full time job, have a light lunch, and eat granola or some other high fiber high protein food during your breaks.

  • it depends, if your a fatty then its likely to burn fat around your body, if your skinny the increase of muscle will make your legs more muscular. If your a guy you will grow muscle easier than if your a woman, as chicks really don't need to worry about getting "big" unless they are extreme body builders or on steroids. My guy opinion is that I'm not a fan of skinny girls. The chicks I've seen doing lunges in the gym have normally had nice bottoms and thighs probully helped by doing the lunges

  • Well I'm not a "fatty".. but I'm not the thinnest chick around. With that said, yes I'm a girl. My body mass index is 20.2 .. which isn't bad nor good, in my opinion... I think most of the weight is in my thighs and stomach .. But my stomach isn't bad at all. Pretty flat.

  • I really enjoy lunges, they use the stabilizing muscles well and you can really feel your whole leg work aswell as the gluts. I think anyone can benifit from them. If I were you I wouldn't worry about getting "big". Women really do worry too much about look like a body builder and unless they are hormonally different from most they wont ,no matter how hard they try, after all most guys find it really hard.

  • 1 - Yes, as it puts pressure and flexes the butt.

    2 - It strengthens your knee because of the applied pressure on the knee

  • 1 - No, as flexing the muscle will not make you loose fat. Cardio will do that job

  • actually, with the right amount of force, it does give the area muscle and therefore losing fat

  • You can't target specific areas for fat loss; it's distributed evenly. All it's going to do is build up bulk in the area you're working out, which is the opposite effect that most people are aiming for.

    That's not to say you won't burn anything off doing this, however.

  • No then you're not losing fat, you're building some muscle. You can't burn fat locally on your ass by doing lunges, or burn fat locally on your abs by doing crunches. For burning fat you need to lift weight for a higher metabolism and do cardio

  • But I think the overall consensus is that muscle helps burn fat and strength training builds muscle. Therefore, strength training indirectly burns fat. You're not going to lose weight doing nothing but lunges but, yeah, when you couple strength training with your cardio or aerobics, you'll be getting stuff done.

  • You can't spot reduce, meaning if you work out a body part you won't necessarily lose fat from that area. To lose overall body fat you have to do cardio. But yes lunges are a great butt exercise.

  • the protein bar is not one of the best cause it consists only 10 grams of protein but tastes soo good (130 calories no additives)

    i live in malta a tiny island soo i dont have much option but u can find protein bars 50 grams consting protein. anybody who is trying to lose weight never never stop taking protein; u can eat less but u have to take protein and the best way is to take shakes and powder as they have the most protein with least calories. dont forget ur cells, hair, nails everuthing

  • and in addition to that i have been running 1 hour everyday for 2 years i dont have much fat on my inner tighs but because of too much cardio they became flabby loose and this exercise litreally saved my ass.

  • hi this exerice works very good. i dont agree with some comments, when u build there muscles it wont look big but lean cause inner tighs are naturally lean u just look trimmed, i have been doing it for a week and perfect results i must say.

  • The only way to get rid of fat on your thighs is to diet and do cardio. Working the muscle underneath fat will strengthen the muscle, it won't get rid of the fat.

    In fact, if you do build muscle without losing the fat first, your thighs may appear even bigger.

  • Good for you, darlin'! I've found the fat started melting off just by jogging a couple days a week. (In fact, I called it "trudging," because I was so slow!) But seriously, I was shocked at the difference, an you might, too, especially if you're already eating better.
