@slapka101 well i was baptized last week, but i did pick another saint. her name is Saint Theresa of the little flower...or St. Theresa of the Child Jesus...mainly because Christina was never canonized...but i also found St,Theresa to be just as interesting and unique....
i love this the most best favorite coolest song ever. because i love christina the astonishing and make lots of art about her and Nick cave is my main man. . so thanks for the most kick ass video in the whole world.
Christina the Astonishing (1150 1224), also known as Christina Mirabilis, was a Christian holy-woman born in Brustem, Belgium. She is considered a saint, but has never been canonised. Christina is remembered for her faith and for her numerous and violent fits.
Thank you for posting this VERY unusual treatment of the story of one of Christendom's all-time strrrangest saints. Megakudos to Mr Cave for tackling it, too. Otherworldly story ~ (•8-D
Nick is amazing.... growing to love his stuff more and more! thanks to special someone for opening my world to Nick and the Bad Seeds a few years ago.... :) ... thanks for the video, liekkichan!!
the song is based on the story of a penitent nun from the 12th century who died, went to the other side and came back with stories of the torments of hell...she would mortify herself in horrible ways, and would show no scars...she was said to be able to levitate to get away from the smell of the sinful...and would hide in odd places to avoid them.
Wonderful! I cant believe I came across it after so many years. One of their greatest songs. Reminds of "Muddy Water" on his covers album. Thanks for posting this.
I know I've listened to Henry's Dream before but I guess it's been a while (or I was just too stoned to remember!) because I don't remember this song - my boyfriend has most Birthday Party/early Bad Seeds albums and I know I've borrowed it! Anyway I just found out about Christina the Astonishing so I thought I'd come check out the song. Genius of course.
I guess I'm astonishing :)

One of my favorites from Mr. Cave. His deep brooding voice adds to the dark ambience of the story...
