I ran from a crown vic in a 97 firebird, and he just could not catch me. The acceleration and the light, aerodynamic body was too much for the big ford to keep up with. I'm sure he could have caught up to me if I'd stayed on the interstate. His budies caught me with the road block real easy, but I could tell he was suprised that he was outran by a 6 cylinder.

True, but most of the time even car thieves don't drive like this until they get chased. Then the cops get this "how dare you run from me" attitude and it's usually the cops that cause most of the "innocent" wrecks and property damage. It's been proven more than once that over half of the P.I.T. maneuvers end in police or innocent crashes. All they have to do is get the tag # and track with the helicopter like they used to do in the old days. They'll get him eventually.

The point is that at over 100mph you cant use a standard box trap, you gotta immobilize them however you can. Not to mention he might have been heading towards heavier traffic which would endanger civilians.
