I do query the technique (left v right foot) But it's more a question of timing and decision-making. Last defender slide-tackling is usually a BAD decision. An extremely risky decision. Any hint of coming from behind (even cleanly hitting the ball) will bring up a foul.

Also,the defender should be running BESIDE the attacker to apply pressure. This is the timing aspect. There will be a moment when the attacker allows the ball to be "seen" and the defender should be looking for that moment.

Hockey was pretty much the only sport I enjoyed playing on a team. In a way, it's similar to soccer. Fast paced I guess. I am American. I never hated soccer either, I was just too nervous to join a team :P
