  • tenor solo wuz sexy!!

  • that quint part is NASTY

  • they all sound like one snare! nice

  • sounds like one killin snare!!!

  • i like how the links right after lead to the USC and Texas Longhorn Drum lines lmao

  • Clean as hell. Can I go there? =S

  • Awesome video of UMass' cadence. I was a videographer for the UMMB during '93-'94, and I, too, know how difficult it was to catch all the action and sound as effectively as possible. Don't be naive enough to put negative comments about the sound (or video) here. For anyone who doesn't know, bass is the hardest to pick up. It has the lowest frequency of all the percussion here, whereas the sharp reports of the snare hits and cymbal crashes are higher frequency and will therefore dominate.

  • thom hannum is really about perfection

  • sweet wheelchair!!!

  • @347826able You sir, are a shmuck. MSU is very good, but not quite as good. I can't even believe you brought up USC, much less said they're better. They are a joke of a line, get real.

  • perfectly timed for each one of them wow

  • anyone got the score or any parts to this?:)

  • yeah its on their website

  • if u go 2 the website they have the 2009 version i think it's the same if not there's only minor changes

  • thanks but I know, Ive already checked it out :D,seems the same for the most part

  • Wow they fucked up the Rock Beat in the cadence. It was so much better when we played it when I was there 5 years ago.

  • did u guys mix a bunch of cadences together? like i heard funketrauss a part of long cadence, electric wheelchair and even new latin!

  • :45 to 1:00 is exactly why i loved playing tenors

  • sounds like I heard a version of Funky Town in there.

  • Ha! All the other members just walkin' by like, man I should have learned to play the drums lol

  • i like it at about 1:10

  • totally absurd. wow.

  • THIS LOOKS LIKE BUTLER STADIUM

  • It's not.

  • It is Warren P McGuirk Alumni Stadium, UMass Amherst

  • The Jedi Knights= Thom Hannum, Colin McNutt, Jim Casella, and George Parks!!!

  • hey, if you guys like this, check out the 2008 UMass Drumline. there's tons of great stuff from this past season, including a new version of the cadence.

  • AHHH, Mr. George N. Parks changed my life.

<33333 I got a glimpse of the UMass drumline over the summer during DMA (when they came into the cafeteria to play out of nowhere!). They were so fun to listen to & just wonderfullll<3

  • George Parks was the drum major of my corps, the Reading Bucs and he is just god incarnate when it comes to marching!!!

  • amazing. enough said. wait...wow. there:)

  • band day was awsome, quads rule!

  • I <3 UMASS and band day was amazing...

  • my uncle is george parks, the band director for umass

  • Thanks for the comments, guys. Keep 'em coming!

  • The 2008 Cadence is even better (at least IMO). Basically, everything this drumline touches is amazing.

  • yea i agree i was just at band day today and it was pretty cool

  • amazing. my high school drum instructor used to be a snare for UMass. I now have more respect for him lol

  • our drum instructer used to play snare for umass too. :P

  • yay my school's drumline kicks ass! I can hear the marchin band practicing sum time!

  • Oh yes. The best college line around. Will you please go down to North Carolina and teach UNC and Duke's drumline how to play...

  • Daaaamn, UMMB is bad ass.

  • MORE COWBELL!!!

  • ahhhh the electric wheelchair tenor waltz solo. I love it. And very clean for the amount of people. I love that too.

  • Man, Oh Man. Marching Band!

The bass drum licks rule. Nice fours going into the rock beat.

    ~Ben

  • Nice work fellas! How many zones do your cowbells have?

    HA

    ~Glenn

  • Holy shit..

I cannot figure out how 12 snares keep so CLEAN. This drumline is amazing.

  • Practice, practice, practice...with a metronome!

  • @VicFirthkid22 I know people have probably said this a billion times over, but it's a Hannum line. Anything is possible. xD

  • lols the movie drumline was terrible

    also

    UMMB>your band

    period

  • lol at these idiots calling it a show band. stick to your drumline movie inspired rim/snare grooves and stfu

  • haha i just have to laugh at so many of these comments. this cadence is a technical thing, not "ooo look at them do fancy things with sticks" like show bands. those show band drummers probably couldnt even hang with us.

  • yeah alex

  • im pretty sure all these beats are clean and fuckin a lot more difficult then that show band shit.

  • fuck that. those show bands eat shit.

  • @tmilla13300 you can still have musicianship while dancing and playing at the same time. college marching band was meant to entertain the crowds at the football games with music that the crowd knew and as well put on a show for them so they as wel can get involved. DCI is what changed that. back before DCi came about college bands across the country were all about being flashy by dancing around on the feild but at the same time they still had technique.

  • ...it's recorded on a discount-bin video camera, that's why it's not picking up the bass.

  • to those going nuts on this thread:

can we calm down about the vid? c'mon guys grow up.

nick: the camera is a $400 canon and I had to compress the video from 200 mb to fit the 10MB limit.

    thanks.

  • w00t! for the fives at 1:52.

GAH, the snares are so damned clean! (Whole Drumline is, but this video is focused on the snares, so yeah...)

  • It's because you can only hear one of them.

  • I can hear all of the snares and they are ALL clean. Thom's tuning really helps them speak better.

  • why the heck dont they have an indoor line?

  • UMASS is all about the technicality of drumming, for the most part, they don't like how WGI has become so much about the show and the GE and less about the drumming. Some of them do indoor lines but most prefer this and DCI.

  • these guys are being trained fuckin well!

  • thom hannum is the man. all the staff at umass is great, and they definately know what theyre talking about

  • freakinn clean beats

  • umass all the way even though im at holyoke high but thx for kicking off the parade for us.i wish i had all the hook ups on my base drum like u guys lol.

  • Good stuff. Like the SCV influence. Was that Red's Rhumba or a transcription of it? Great stuff to hear from a college line, though. Good stuff, UMASS.

  • That was the original tenor 'waltz' from the scv '92 wheelchair. Red's Rhumba was played by Star '93 not SCV.

  • I recognized the 'waltz' as you say. Starting at 1:40 was a rendition of an exercise SCV played in '92, which I mistook for Reds Rhumba. I've always wondered what that exercise is called that starts at 1:40. Anybody know?

  • Got it. I was referring to the first 7 bars of letter F. Good stuff. I'm kind of ignorant of the college drumline scene. Go UMass!

  • It's called Triplet Transfer

  • Does anyone have the Snare Part in finale for this possibly?? Its really groovin!

  • you can get it for free from umass' drumline website.

  • I'm applying to Umass, and I hope to be a member of this drumline next year. Thom Hannum for Prez

  • same here - class of '12. Thom instead of Hillary? Sounds like a plan...

  • sweet bro, hopefully we both get our wishes, what will you be trying out for, maybe we'll see eachother at band camp, I'm trying out for snare

  • nice man.. yea im definately tryin out for snare as well. mabye we will both be in the line next year! ill see you over the summer im sure at band camp

  • yea man, it'll be fun, btw, where did you march, I marched my school and two years going on 3 of DCA drum corps, I marched with the Sunrisers the last two years and am potentially marching with the Bushwackers this year and last year with SUN, I won the DCA Class A Championship along with best percussion

  • i actually havent marched anywhere. i have played with my school, but i have also been taking lessons from the umass percussion section leader, im taking a technique class with the whole drumline right now, and i have gone to the UMass Mobile Percussion Seminar for three years. are you from Mass?

  • no, New York. I attended MPS in 05 right before my first year of drum corps, do you plan on marching any drum corps, where do you plan on auditioning man?

  • im not doing any corps this summer - no time and no money. but looking down the road, i would like to do mabye carolina crown. well see. i thought about doing spartans this summer, but other things got in the way

  • yo did you get in? BTW, I got my spot at Bushwackers so I'm marching there this summer, I'm marching with some old UMass guys who also marched Crossmen when Hannum was there in the late 90s

  • yea... i got my acceptance a couple months ago - early action is the way to go. did u get in? congrats on getting your spot, sounds like its gonna be good experience

  • havent heard yet, but I think I'll get in, see you there hopefully

  • well, i know who Sun Snare is, hey Andrew, it's nate, who's the other guy, you say you were at MPS the past three years, I was there the past two, I got in to the school and the music department, now it's time to make the quad line

  • nice I got an email from Mr. Parks recently, havent gotten my acceptance letter or anything yet, but I think I'm gonna get in. I hope to be auditioning for the snareline bro. BTW, I'm marching Bushwackers this year with some UMass graduates who marched Crossmen 98

  • nate as in aviator quad man in (a) group?

  • hells yeah, who's this?

  • tim miller - (a) group snares, baby

  • that looks like so much fun
