You need the compressed air afterward too because the heated volume contracts and sucks the tire back... also after doing this I'd recommend putting a little air in and then letting it out, as the combustion leaves a bunch of moisture behind. But this really is the only reasonable way to seat some tires in some areas, can't get enough air through a little tire chuck. Other option is an air cannon, but in some ways those seem about as dangerous.
This way of inflating tyres aside , a local well established garage fitted thousands of tyres over its working life..For some of the biggest tyres (tractor types etc) a cage has to be used to contain the tyre. This on etime the cage was not used and the rim parted from the tyre on inflation the young man doing the repair was killed instantly..very true story..Every operation has its dangers
Are these the split ring rims? My dad has done the M35 tires and it scares me to death!! I don't think I would want to be anywhere near that rim when I seat the bead. Great job though!
been doing otr for over 15 yrs at a buzy shop with more than 125 yrs of combined experience.
we have seen it, tried it or herd of it but there is a better safer way to seat tire beads.
if i was jammed up in the bush with a bad tire looking at a long walk out... well i would do it it "again". think about taking it to the experts who can do it without ether or harming themselves or you equipment. this is my two cents, take it for what its worth
@partsbenttoys What is the better way of doing it? I worked at a Goodyear for a number of years and this was the only way to get a bead on the rim of a really stiff tire like is shown in the video. There is really no danger here... you could spray and entire can of ether into a tire and the tire would not "blow up". this video is proof that it is not at all dangerous and it works perfectly.
Sorry but i highly doubt the cheetah will seat those Michelin xl's. Sometimes alternatives are needed. Just take your time and stay out of the tires trajectory if it fails. Or just use ether in a cage.
@Intense951 The cheetah never semmed work on tires bigger than 38" to 40" or so.It was good, however to put baby powder or baking soda down it and shoot it off at some one as joke.
Little squirt won't kill you. The fumes are only flammable not the liquid. Throw a match in gas and it will go out. Throw a match in a barely filled gas can and watch it explode.
ok stupid spray a trail of ether from the rim to the tire tread along the sidewall. that way your buddy dosent have to stick his head and arm in so far and get his eybrows burnt off.
@1overthehillsfaraway yea dummy spray it IN the tire then spray it right on the tire sidewall in a trail that leads from the rim part of the tire. you can stand a little further away then light the wet liquid sprayed on the tire and the flame will travel down that trail to the inside of the tire and ignite. that way when it flashes it dosent burn your eyebrows off. So i dont know what im talking about??? that just goes to show how stupid you are. Your process proves it
i allways use gas to inflat a tire that wont seat but i make me a stream about 5-6 feet away from the tire just incase something does go wrong which will happen often
Easy way to get yourself killed. There is no excuse to ever do that. There is a device called a "cheetah" that is basically an air tank with a dump valve that will blast air into the tire to seat it to the bead.
You can add a strap around the tire, this is plain stupid. Had a guy sent up through the roof of the workshop 15 years ago, get/build a cage before you kill yourself, or someone else........
this is the only method we use when putting tires back onto are trucks/ heavy equipment. my dad's used this method for as long as i can remember and it always works. we use a 2 foot 2 x 4 of wood and spray a little either on the end and light it so we dont loose are hair tho.
My friend chose to do it this way so he could put the air chuck on it and replenish the air before the tire popped back off the bead as was the case on previous attempts due to the large rim size. I guess its a matter of preference really.
@hondapilot04 Because they are stupid as fuck. Also why would you do something as dumbass as this and then put it on the internet so everyone can see what an idiot you are?
@PRLatino22 The expanding gasses will push the tire out and it will make contact with the rim. In this case we had air going into the tire at the same time. The compressed air was needed because air leaked out until the tire was well seated. In other words, it would fall back off the rim after about 10 seconds with out the compressed air.
I have tried this with falken rocky mountain ats tires E load range and all it does is ignite. It doesnt blow it on the bead. I dont know what I am doing wrong, I tried a little, I tried alot. The heat did soften up the stiff ass sidewalls enough to mount them however.
what a lame video!! this is no big deal been done billions of times!! next time you decide to upload do something that will entertian ppl not this lame ass shit
@BarnesMarch Though I've seen this method a few times on tv/ the internet I can still remember the first time I saw it being explained at the age of 12 and was completely amazed. I'm sure there are a few people who will see this for the first time.....so why don't you go knock on more videos that are not a first for you, but will be for others.
I have NEVER had to use ANY type of flammable substance to seat a tire. I changed tires on big military trucks and they seat just fine if you pull the stem and use a bead seater.....AKA air tank with ball valve. You point the big ole tube at the bead and open the valve. Make sure you are wearing ear plugs.
@ikesquirrel the military tire has a stiffer sidewall and a rim that is ment for the tire size. you have to use this method when doing something like a 42+ tire that the width of the rim is more then 2/3 the tire width. like, a 44x15x16.5 on a 16.5x12 wheel. the sidewall will not grip the rim since there isnt a strong locking bead on the rim to grip one side. no matter how fast you force air into it, the sidewall wont get within 2" of either side of the rim. you wont seat it with a simple seater
@ikesquirrel you can be smarter then the machine though. take a few ratchet straps around the center of the tread and compress it, forcing the sidewall to spread giving you just enough to seat it enough to fill with a quick shot of air.
You need the compressed air afterward too because the heated volume contracts and sucks the tire back... also after doing this I'd recommend putting a little air in and then letting it out, as the combustion leaves a bunch of moisture behind. But this really is the only reasonable way to seat some tires in some areas, can't get enough air through a little tire chuck. neat
RyanRR666 2 years ago
It appears that the force of the bead-seating explosion is less than the tires' rated max.load carrying capacity.
So, it may be safe?
popplewort333 2 years ago
This only puts enough air in the tire to create a seal, you then have to fill the tire with compressed air.
WatchDogxx 2 years ago
thats probably one of the most sketchy ways to inflate a tire
