I bought some practice ones awhile back that worked pretty well, I got pretty good with them, so I ordered a pair of real ones. Using them is much more difficult. Any suggestions?
@wikawoo are you left handed? Cause I am and maybe you know that mimicking moves taught from right handed people is fucking anoying, but It doesn't make a difference at all except the spin orientation, which in this case is clockwise from this point of view. I hope that if I make a tutorial Im as good as this guy, by the way, I made my nunchaku!!!!
Hey man, I wonder how can you play it so fast? How much does it weigh? Mine is from steel and the chain is longer than that I guess, I've tried training some tricks and it's just so hard to attain speed, especially that wrist rotation, is my Nunchuk too heavy?
no, weight would actually make is spin faster cause you have more weight to swing. the longer chain will make is harder to spin. but with practice it can get up to speed.
@Aleipo ur chain is too long ur chain should be the with of ur palm...u cant do tricks like spinning round wrists and stuff with a long chain the ones with a long chain ar for combat
@MrChicken1976 Buy yourself a set of foam nunchaku as well as wooden/metal ones and learn tricks with the foam ones before moving onto the wood/metal ones. Works well for me : /
Just wonder about your chucks. are those hardwoods, rattans or others...
and which one would you recommend.
and for the transfers under the shoulder do you catch the chuck closer to chain or distant from the chain to be able to catch the chuck with the other hand at 0:40.
Bomb video man, I learned the half wrist roll at ATA yesterday haha, and saw the full one on another video a couple hours ago so i've been practicing it, my record is six, then I smacked my new lip rings with my nunckucks, goodness it hurt
Hey, thanks for commenting. Keep practicing and a good all around tip for life is to avoid fast moving objects (especially around the cranial area =P )
On fight science they showed the power compared to other weapons like the bo, or jo, the nunchuku was inferior because of break in power at the middle,
hey mate, like the video. im having problems doing the spinning with my Nunchakus, maybe because i think they are a bit heavy. they are made from plexi-glass and ballbearing chains if you know what i mean
Everything is circumstantial, I have been jumped before walking home from practice (didn't need the nunchaku, though). . I admit your point of the times being different, but i maintain my training in all of my weapons, plus more. My nunchaku, knives, joint-manip., and even firearms. WE DO HAVE TO EMBRACE THE TIMES. But that's no excuse to embrace being helpless without guns or even the nunchaku that you lost faith in...
I'd just like everyone to use common sense in kobudo. "wristflips" are just for show, they have a minimal application if you use nunchaku as weapon or art.... it's just to look pretty. . . if that's your goal, you may as well learn to use streamers and try to be an olympian..
That's the whole point. They are flashy and fun to look at. I want to see you go out in the real world with a pair of nunchakus looking to start a "practical" fight. You'd first get laughed at, then shot. So before you go spouting off, remember what age you live in.
Yeah it depends what country you live in, like me in the uk there are guns around the city areas but out in the towns its pretty rare to see.. its more people getting knifed or beaten to death if anything.
so a pair of nunchucks are great... I mean really its like a big long stick if you put the full distance out but its so deseptive.. still I only got my nun chucks just 2 days ago so I've got a lot to learn about them : D
hey kid. stop kidding yourself. your "fighitng" means shit in this world. There's no honor it whatever you think you're doing. You're not impressing anyone. You really think you're a martial artists? Go up against any half wit fighter who has trained. They will have you down for the count in no time.
i love it how you say i dont know what i am doing.
let me drop some info in u.
my brother is in the amature division (trying to move up to pro) and i am just getting started on mine its in our family you see we are not fake and we do put our fist where our mouth is which i can say about u.
we fight in the ring u dont so sit your fake behind down and just watch mma matches where the real fighters r u will see me in a couple of yrs on their because i am not scared like u
I know you're bullshitting just by the way you type. First off...it's Amateur Division. Get that right. I am also not 'scared' to fight in mma. I have no desire to. If you wanna question my courage...and begin dick measuring. Go to elsewhere. IF you're legit...by all means, strive for the best. that the REAL warriors, don't brag about their combat exploits like you. We call those people quiet professionals. The ones who talk about "dominating" usually get their asses beat. Peace out kiddo.
Sorry to say this but no real martial artist would brag like you're demonstrating. In real life nun chaku are very unhandy when it comes to fighting and strongly limited in their effective use. The only time I would clearly put them down as an advatage towards a different weapon would be if your skill clearly exceeds that of your opponent, as nun chaku behave very differently from other weapons (due to the fact that they can bend around targets)
sorry forgot to say this is directed at Darkmessenger
@TrueMusou, I really like your flow its very smooth, especially the left hand catch with the underarm swing, since you made this video have you tried maybe some more complicated technics, such as foward spins back switches etc?
first off plenty of martial artist in the ufc brag.
secondly i only stated info about me because he called me fake.
and for u not to be able to use them well is on you i can use them in any situation and i would also dare u to go to japan and say u can not use them in a fight i love seeing when people dis someone elses style and cant back up their mouthing s.
and lastly i will prove any day of the week that i am not fake, & if u r older u can try my bro.
Never said you're a fake, and of course you can fight with nunchaku, but there hast been a long history of high ranking masters that have clearly said they would prefer to use different weapons (this from people such as the master that trained Bruce Lee on nun chaku for his films)
So what I said is there use is extremely limited, and I myself would prefer a different weapon in a fight although I mainly train with nun chaku (well its has only been 3 years)
btw I wouldn't put martial artists and ufc fighters in the same category, its not that I think the one is better than the other but the "rules" of fighting are quite different (in the sense that you learn killing techniques and the so called "low blows" which for example were an entegral part of the style of Ju Jitsu I trained in. I would put ufc in its own category, as also the codes of conduct are fundamentally different (respect towards others being one of the major clashes)
And i do prefer a staff/spear over nunchucks but the chucks r easier to conceal.
the rules for mma & Ma is diff i noticed that to when i first started getting in to the ring fighting aspect of Ma alot of things i learned was illegal but i figure this is still a good way to stay sharp.
the "chain" is shorter, although its usually rope. the first result on youtube for "speedchucks" is a video from expert village. the guy is using speedchucks. you should be able to see the difference
since the chuks are an extension of your hand i see no reason not to be able to hold them anywhere if you get use to the spining technique and someone blocks your chuk strike with a staff at the chain as it spins around what are you going to do if not use to the spining technique when it comes back at you or gets pulled out of your hand also it adds the deception that will make someone come to close and then you can extend your reach and take them out a typical entrapment if i may say
Alot of these moves that you are performing and teaching are basically all from traditional, the only big difference that i see is your hand is being held to close to the chain or rope in the middle.
Very good point. Not to make this an argument or anything, but freestyle nunchaku is not "preserving culture". People that know anything about nunchaku (and im not saying you don't know anything about nunchaku) would train traditional instead of freestyle to really preserve the culture of it. Another thing, what kind of martial arts are you into, like : karate, judo, kobudo, etc...
Oh no, you misunderstand. I'm saying you would train tradition TO preserver culture. Not the other way around.
I'm not so much into martial arts any more. Haven't really had the time to do any training. Maybe I'd pick it up again in the future. But my mind is else where at the mean time.
Freestyle tricks are very skilled and entertaining....but...traditional nunchaku takes alot more skill and focus to perfect. People these days do things because they think its cool or will get them alot of attention, not the way to go. Freestyle nunchaku looks very good, but it would not do any good in a combat. On the other hand, traditional nunchaku is ment for combat, you may think freestyle is better because of the way it looks, but looks can be decieving. Im not trying to bash freestyle.
True to an extent. However, nunchakus are not very good combat weapons to begin with. A simple staff is leaps and bounds beyond the practicality of the nunchakus. Also, in this day and age, who fights with nunchakus combatively anyways? So to focus energy on learning a combative style is simply useless unless for the pure sake of preserving some culture.
Just to let you know, that is not the way to hold nunchaku. The proper way to hold nunchaku is with the bottom of your hand approx. 1-2 inches from the bottom, not trying to be bossy or anything, just letting you know. And the next person to call them "nunchucks" or "numchucks", im going to hit you, lol... the proper name is "nunchaku", also, not trying to be bossy..just a tip.
ive got nunchucks, and im getting really good at it, but i dont know, i dont feel confortable with mine, its like, im as good as im gonna get with those nunchucks, i think their lenght or the lenght of the chain doesnt fit my arm or wrist or whatever, do you know how to buy nunchucks? like what size and stuff? i have no idea, i got mine from a friend but im looking forward to getting others
erm...if u think someones retarded for having nunchucks then say that to bruce lee then see how the hell he can kick ur ass...or any black belt in tae-kwon-do
and just because u cannot play with nunchucks properly doesnt mean u say shit bout other people think b4 u talk mate
even silence is the best answer thaen that ur not taking the piss

since the chuks are an extension of your hand i see no reason not to be able to hold them anywhere if you get use to the spining technique and someone blocks your chuk strike with a staff at the chain as it spins around what are you going to do if not use to the spining technique when it comes back at you or gets pulled out of your hand also it adds the deception that will make someone come to close and then you can extend your reach and take them out a typical entrapment if i may say
jimirayh 2 years ago
For your first question of what to do if your chuk is taken by a staff...grab staff and/or kick back.
Bruce Lee shows you what to do incase you do get disarmed....do something fast.

where do you get your nunchucks????
blake7513 2 years ago
Alot of these moves that you are performing and teaching are basically all from traditional, the only big difference that i see is your hand is being held to close to the chain or rope in the middle.
PDNADON 2 years ago
I have one question though, again, im not saying freestyle is pointless, but why do you prefer freestyle that traditional?
PDNADON 2 years ago
it's more fun =)
TrueMusou 2 years ago
Very good point. Not to make this an argument or anything, but freestyle nunchaku is not "preserving culture". People that know anything about nunchaku (and im not saying you don't know anything about nunchaku) would train traditional instead of freestyle to really preserve the culture of it. Another thing, what kind of martial arts are you into, like : karate, judo, kobudo, etc...
PDNADON 2 years ago

PDNADON 2 years ago
True to an extent. However, nunchakus are not very good combat weapons to begin with. A simple staff is leaps and bounds beyond the practicality of the nunchakus. Also, in this day and age, who fights with nunchakus combatively anyways? So to focus energy on learning a combative style is simply useless unless for the pure sake of preserving some culture.
TrueMusou 2 years ago
Just to let you know, that is not the way to hold nunchaku. The proper way to hold nunchaku is with the bottom of your hand approx. 1-2 inches from the bottom, not trying to be bossy or anything, just letting you know. And the next person to call them "nunchucks" or "numchucks", im going to hit you, lol... the proper name is "nunchaku", also, not trying to be bossy..just a tip.
PDNADON 2 years ago
good tips,
but for the purpose of freestyle tricks, it's better to hold it closer to the pivot point.

ive got nunchucks, and im getting really good at it, but i dont know, i dont feel confortable with mine, its like, im as good as im gonna get with those nunchucks, i think their lenght or the lenght of the chain doesnt fit my arm or wrist or whatever, do you know how to buy nunchucks? like what size and stuff? i have no idea, i got mine from a friend but im looking forward to getting others

I think it was KC's only hit as a solo artist.
When it first came out, I didn't even know it was KC from KC & the Sunshine Band.
