  • Bravo!!! R.I.P.

  • "Fridays" wasn't that good when it came to comedy (although it did give us Larry David and a few "Seinfeld" alumnus). But the musical talent was fantastic. What other show can you think of that would have Gregory Hines one week and the next week, The Plasmatics?

  • This just brings tears to my eyes - perfection

  • i wish i could do that................R.I.P

  • He was awesome tap dancer and a good actor! R.I.P.

  • He makes it look so easy.!!! R.I.P.

  • Pfffffffttttt.... I could do that! :)

  • Thanks for posting this video! R.I.P. Gregory Hines, your legacy lives on forever!

  • Hello Louisboo. Thanks for sharing this. All respect to your GrandFather.

    Love from France.

  • you cant be taught this its pure talent

  • My tap teacher was taught by gregory Hines because when she was little she was crowned Ms Gregory Hines. He's her idle. So is Jimmy slide and Bo jangles.

  • that was the best tap beat i evr heard with entertaining moves

  • I wish we could have this archived somehow. I wish the Smithsonian has a copy!

I think I will freind the smithy. Nya naya nyah!

  • dude that is sooo good!

  • 2:08 YouTube video: The late great Gregory Hines dancing solo in the early eighties.

February 14, 1946: birth of Gregory Hines, American dancer and actor (d. 2003).

  • He was a great entertainer, loved to watch him dance and thought he was a good comic actor too. Him and Billy Crystal in "Running scared" had me laughing too many times. Not to forget "History of the world" with his Ethiopean shim sham great stuff

  • Thanks for posting this. What a wonderful man Gregory Hines was and it's nice to know his legacy can live on through videos like this. R.I.P. Mr. Hines. You are sadly missed.

  • l have to admit that l had never even heard of Greg' Hines up until l saw him do a sand dance in Mel Brooks' History Of The World Part One, and thought,my god..who is this guy? l don't dance, but l know brilliance when l see it.

  • Thank you for posting this. He was just so beautiful.

  • GREGORY HINES SAVES THE DAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

  • we need to find the one bastard who disliked this and kill him

  • Yep!

  • Fantastic! This man has told the world with his legs!

    Thanks 4 posting this

    Peace

  • amazing and gone to soon

  • Does anyone remember "Hines, Hines and Dad? They used to be regulars on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. All three of them were just simply amazing. Gregory Hines left us way too soon, but he left us with a lot of great memories to enjoy for a long time. R.I.P. Brother Gregory.

  • DID HE JUST SIT DOWN WHEN HE FINISHED? THAT'S FUCKING BOSS. He was the man!!

  • I remember this. This was taken from the late night ABC series, "Fridays". He hosted it, I think, around 1980. A year earlier, Hines appeared on "Saturday Night Live" with Eubie Blake. Excellent performer. I still can't believe he's gone.

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • He is so great even after his passing. Saw him in the little town of Tahlequah, OK in 1991 at an event for their performing arts dept at the University of Northeastern OK. He left in a blizzard in New York City to honor a committment to be there in an old auditorium full of waiting fans and spoke and danced for over two houors. Do they make entertainers like him anymore?? My all-time favorite entertainer!

  • god i wish i could tap like this - he makes it look so easy - my tappoing is like so simple comparedt o this its just like........ wow

  • When they talk about tap dance, most people will think of Fred Astaire. But with all due respect for Mr. Astaire and his unquestionable talent, I say Mr. Hines is the all-time lord and master of this art. He was one of a kind.

  • Fred Astaire era tap dance e mais. O que esse cara tinha de único era tap+elegância+coreografia+o-que-vc-queira-imaginar.

  • Saw him awhile back in Toronto, and I was blown away...as a student of tap, I know how easy he made it look!

  • guava, I tend to agree with you..I like the dancers of today who are doing great things, but many just seem to go for speed, and don't really have all that much to say..and yeah, it looks really easy here..Saw Gregory a couple of months before he died, just a great concert all the way around..

  • R.I.P. Gregory Hines

  • Yeah!!! Now that is what I call tap dance!!! =)

  • @good2Batapdancer if you think this is good chck out the men who he idolized The Nicholas Brothers!!!!!!!!

  • dal4018-

ya i've seen a bunch of their footage. they rock! i just rly like gregory hines=)

  • @good2Batapdancer Everyone thought they would be the second coming of the Nicholas Bros they saw them in person and put up the perverbial WHITE FLAG OF SURRENDER!!!!!

  • the difference between Gregory and other tap dancers? He makes this look good!!

  • There are a lot of hoofers out there, but there was only one greg hines!

  • woohh...

  • how is this funny? he was one of the world's best tap dancers

  • @scarlettwaterfall Educate these fools.

  • R.I.P.

  • i just got tap danced

  • Classic ending - "Shave and a haircut - no legs!" :D

  • that is the most fed up shirt i have ever seen but HIS THE MAN so its all good

  • This is... Incredible. Does anyone know if this was improv?

  • knowing the average tap dancer, and believe me hes above average, yeah its improv

  • One of the best things about Gregory Hines was that he made it look effortless. You see a lot of guys nowadays who can dance as fast as he could, but they look like they're working hard. Gregory Hines always made it look like he was having a conversation with you. I loved that about him.

  • that was amazing

  • Ah.... I love this guy!! he is absolutely Amazing, hes feet just dont stop!!!!

Love wat he's wearin tho, haha

  • Good footage.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Fantastic!

  • i love tap...

  • thank you! great footage

  • so this is the dance that ispired happy feet!! lol

  • Fantabulous! I met him @ 1988. He was staying at a hotel in La Quinta, California (near Palm Springs)When he arrived in his limo, I opened his door and greeted him with "Welcome to Hell. The Hell's Angels will assist to the left, through the double-doors" (Temp. was 126 degrees that day!!!) He laughed & commmented on working in "hell" then TAPDANCED through the foyer, to the registration desk. It was an unbelievable privilege to witness such raw talent. He was a delightful, wonderful person.

  • Lol that sounds like a movie script.

  • Thank you so much...I tap because I adore him. I can never get enough of any Gregory Hines performance.

  • he's my inspiration! cuz i'm a rilly good tap dancer 2 so ya!!! but he's the best and i hope 2 be like him 1 day!!!!go gregg!!!!!!!!:p

  • awesome dancing.

    but the clothes WTF?

  • Wow. I was lucky enough to tap dance next to this man before he passed. Thank you for finding this.

  • Thanks for that. Just what I was hoping to see.

  • I miss him. I know he said Savion was the greatest, but there's something about Gregory Hine's style that I just love. He's always extremely musical, and there's this sleepy laid back sort of quality that I think is so appealing.

  • I am so glad you could get this on here. It is great. He is one of the best tappers. Do you have anything else?

  • Awesome!!!

  • Amazing

  • the spandex shirt is doin it LMFAO

i swear this is when he was in shakespeares 12th night as the clown

  • Everything's great, 'cept for that spandex shirt. Fashion sucked, back then.

  • I found this footage in a box of old VHS tapes belonging to my Grandfather, who taped everything dance and jazz related that was on TV in the early eighties in Montreal, Canada. Gregory Hines was obviously one of the nicest people in (and out of) show business, an extremely talented dancer and actor and is surely missed by many. He passed away far too soon...

  • @Louisboo Thx a mill! This shows exactly why I fell in love w/ him, seeing him perform from around -79 in NYC. Hope to raise awareness to the fact that one of the best musicals on Broadway around that time, Eubie, has been taped w/ the fantastic original cast, but probably due to financial shortage, not been released. It just has to be done, as an homage to Gregory Hines if nothing else. Thx again! If you have more tapes to upload, plse do!

  • Man this is great.got some more?

    Thank for uploading this
