  • Try running on the balls of your feet. The natural way to run is on the ball with very little contact of the heel with the ground. There are a few videos on Youtube which teach you how to run like an elite runner. I had knee problems and that was when I was using a "heel strike" which isn't the best way to run. It will feel like your calves are on fire at first but it gets better. My knee pain disappeared on the very first day I used the balls instead of the heel.

  • that is really weird, because i have those same shoes.

    and it led to my knee pain when running.

    i really think it's because of the mesh and there is no ankle support, which automatically lets you roll your ankle inwards.

    i hope this works out for you!

    what exactly did you do to avoid the inward rolling?

  • I bought new shoes, lol.

    During this run I just kept conscious of how my leg was rolling and didn't allow it to collapse inward.

  • Update!! Just got out of the shower after running one mile on the treadmill. It took me twenty minutes, but I went a mile. I feel so good now!

  • omg hun.. my trainer told me you're supposed to change ur runner every 6 months (after i told her mine were 10 yrs old) lol.. especially if u're running! but yaaay new shoes!

    im thinkin about getting a gym pass. and ive been thinkin about SFC auditions but im more a watcher than a vlogger.. i dunno if i could make the jump lol and i couldnt do any like half-nekkid body shots or anything hehe

  • I <3 my gym, but now that I run outdoors I almost never go there :/ I am trying to start doing classes, so that may change. I LOVE my gym, at least!

    I can't wait to get my new shoes.

  • Way to go running again. you definitely need new shoes. i know that here in my town they have a running store where they have you run on a treadmill to find out where your pressure is on the shoe and they find a shoe that is perfect for you. i am sure they have those in seattle, if they have one in Eugene Oregon. It is definitely something i would look into if i were you. Good luck with finding new shoes.

  • I definitely tend to burn 1,000 calories every time I go to the gym. But I'm always doing either zumba or spinning. I feel that exercising really allows you to really THINK about life in general, and reflect on what you've been doing lately, and that's what I love the most about exercise... THAT aaaand seeing progress.

  • I love Italian..I understood about 3 words of that .LOL sad considering I have had tons of Italian friends, who spoke it all the time. and spent tons of time over 4 years in the home of my friend ..whose family spoke only Italian at home. I maybe picked up 5 words in 4 years LOL so sad. YAY for getting back to running..so happy for you.. 19? wow..yeah, I'd say it's time for new shoes LOL Can't wait til I can workout again..when my foot heals..booo..no clue how I broke it.   • have you gone to a local running store to have your stride checked? from there they can recommend the right shoe for you to run in.

  • I completely understand how you feel about working out and stress relief. It definetly helps me too! I went for a week without working out a couple months ago and I just felt like a ball of stress .

  • Good decision to replace your shoes. It's not only the time in use, but some of the high tech impact absorbing materials deteriorate with age.

    I agree about the stress relief aspect of exercise. Anything that gets the endorphins flowing. Or ar serious runners say "hitting the wall". I was somewhat lazier, I used to get the effect from motor racing. When the immediate concern is coming out of the next corner with car and life intact, all other considerations are cleared from the mind.

  • "hitting the wall" usually refers to the point where you run out of glycogen and you are literally out of gas...endorphin release is usually referred to a "runner's high" but as in your example anything that your brain interprets as an emergency will clear the clutter in a hurry

  • Couple quick comments...1) doing some weight work for your legs can help to stabilize your knee, 2) with regards to exercise and mental well being ...studies have been done comparing antidepressants and exercise head to head with exercise alone performing as well or better than the drugs ... keep on truckin'

  • Thank you! :D I get most at REI or used sporting stores that sell REI - most of it is sweat-wicking which means that my body stays dry when I workout (a MUST HAVE for socks and tops).

    I'm big on smart layering - so sweat-wicking stuff against the body, then fleece, then an insulating layer. So much yay!

    I got the top I was wearing here (blue) from Old Navy - they're having a sale on all running clothes right now :D

  • I don't - I try to eat balanced and get all my nutrition from my food. I eat spirulina a couple times a week and that's it.

    At my current weight, that would be 120 minutes of high intensity exercise. 2 hours!!

    It's great that you are getting back to running, you seem to really enjoy it. Exercise gives us such a rush, I CRAVE it. :)
