  • this tune is used in the movie Red Hill.....plays on a juke box during a great shooting scene!!

  • @MrCrashbangbang

That scene was amazing, and this song just fit so well!

  • Great Hard Rock! and this mega tracks is in the Soundtrack of "Red Hill" a Great movie!

  • Kinks meet ac/dc in a dimlight alley, Chicago happens upon this scenario,

They exchange knowledge and words. They kiss & Hold. They all fall in love. Phil Lynott is born. This is brilliant.Where has this been?

  • @g080870 Thanx... I spent 20 years trying to work out why this track is so recognizable on so many levels... now I can move on.

  • @g080870 "Where has this been?" It's been diluted into the blood that pumps through the heart of Australian rock & roll.

  • LEGEND!

  • Yeh and don't forget that George Young produced and played as bass guitarist in AC/DC as well

  • The Sensational Alex Harvey Band would have shit on both pilot & the rollers get fucking real.

  • @footscraysteve thanx... completely agree.... i think I mentioned Alex Harvey & co on this comment a while ago.

  • At: 'Rock on Vinyl: Stevie Wright - Black Eyed Bruiser (1975)' you can see a poster of Stevie Wright and his band, promoting the Album "Black Eyed Bruiser".

  • I'll have what he's 'avin'.

  • stevie wright orange grove hotel late eighty's off his planet singing as only he could what a great memory

  • Harry Vanda & George Young are the main producers of AC\DC. George is Malcolm & Angus' older brother. And yeah Bon copied Stevie and took it one step further.

In case you didn't know Harry Vanda & George Young were the guitarist's in the Easy Beats. Stevie Wright & Bon Scott are total legends.

  • If Stevies voice had stayed like this he could have replaced Bon when he passed away. He would have been the best choice. No offence to Brian.

  • Bon Scott loved stevie wright, that's who he tried to be, and he took it one step further and became the ultimate front man. Stevie wright was just an absolute legend.

  • The Valentines recorded three Easybeats songs, 'She Said', 'Peculiar Hole In The Sky' and 'My Old Man's A Groovy Old Man'. The latter reached No. 23 in the Australian charts in July 1969.

  • So this film clip was from about a year before Stevie was in Chelmsford Hospital.

  • @Defiant2Delusion Aussie Pub Rock

  • RED HILL!!!!

  • @sardsak This guy (Stevie Wright) was from the Easybeats, who were the biggest band in Australia during the mid-60's. Bon Scott's first band (The Spektors) emerged around the time the Easybeats were at a peak. I don't know whether it was the Spektors and Bon's second band The Valentines that recorded a couple of Easybeats tunes... but I'd say Bon took a few notes from Stevie Wright, who was already a legend by the time AC/DC emerged. Easybeats are AC/DC's big brothers.

  • @nzoz1975 Actually, the connection is even stronger than that. George Young (guitarist in the Easybeats) is Angus Young's (guitarist from AC/DC) older brother. Stevie Wright was initially offered the position of singer in AC/DC when the original frontman was fired, but didn't take up the offer. So I think Bon and Stevie both took notes from each other.

  • @puntynail yeah, i should have said all that too...

  • Nick cave, acdc, and now this? Im starting to fucking love australian music

  • Rose tattoo's version of this is by far my favorite. The way angry sings it just makes it flow together so well.

  • Help Steve Parry's gayer brother told he would put a heavy 6 feet of dirt on top of me. This guy figured that wuss in Australia translates to tough for a disco club but i don't that held true. Let me just put on this extra baggy silk shirt and profess my skill at hitting kings. That or I hit like a king, either way, when did kings become tough. I bet at the time he said this song was about himself but upon review years later, he changed it to a story song about someone he knew.

  • @LEATHERrebelJUSTICE "King hit" is an Australian slang term. It refers to a HUGE full blown running punch, delivered without warning to the face usually resulting in the recipient suffering instant unconciousness, broken jaw, teeth, nose, eye socket. Being a "real King hitter" is a reference to his fighting prowess "im a real KING HITTER! i.e meaning if you start trouble with me the result will be definate unconciouness and major facial truama for you. Nothing to do with Kings or Royalty.

  • excellent!!! watch the postcard bandit to bring it all together, such an amazing little guy and such an amazing band...

  • @cathycastleton Tom Long as the bandit is so underrated as an actor, fell in love with him watching Seachange.

  • anybody know where can I download it for free?

  • Right you are about this video, but angus did indeed play on the album. Guest lead guitar on a track called guitar band, around the same time he folded tantrum and was recruited into acdc

  • Everytime I hear this now I have images of Tommy Lewis slaughtering the populace of Red Hill

  • this is a great song

  • Thats angus young playing guitar, from ac/dc

  • @geoffchill angus never played guitar with stevie (maybe once live but not this video) george did in the easybeats but that's about it

  • heard this in "red Hill" awesome tune

  • This is priceless!!

  • Im not sure if joining ACDC would have "saved him" or made the band better etc etc. Stevie had done deep sleep therapy, methadone, NA and the whole life style change that goes with it. He was a heavy smoker and his voice...well who knows.

Its a romantic notion, one I like, but it didnt happen. That rock n roll, its full of if only's and nearly's more than it is of 'made it' stories. In this case its both. I love this guy and his music and consider him OZ ROCK ROYALTY

  • that cheeky smile of his is gorgeous!

  • To Mr.Stevie Wright:

    Sir,

You are The Real deal,The legend of Rock`n Roll!

  • Man this guy reminds me allot of Bon

  • the kinks meets bon scott..

  • @1959child Good eye! Does look like Stevies borrowed from the Davies and Bon nicked from Stevie.

  • Lol look at him he's off his head

  • love ya stevie---you were (still are) the hippest cat rockin'

  • Thank you again OZROCKFAN. Most enlightening.

  • stevie would have been the perfect bon scott replacement

  • @draxys i agree!! he had the right pedigree gr8 voice was he ever considered did he ever put his hand up 4 the gig? makes u wonder

  • Comment removed

  • @westnblu He was asked to consider being the lead singer early on, but turned it down.

  • @caz4777 well thanx 4 that info had no idea u learn somethin new everyday!! haha

  • Comment removed

  • @caz4777

Stevie Wright was (apparently) introduced to heroin by a member of the JC superstar backing band. Stevie made mention of this when he did a talking tour around Victoria last year.

  • @OZROCKFAN Thanks for that. Any idea what became of this individual?

  • @caz4777 The person is still alive and very healthy. I have met and talked to this person several times over the years. Still playing gigs from time to time. An extremely talented muso and a very nice person who appears fortunate to have not ended up like Stevie or quite a few others within the music industry. Perhaps a stronger will to not let the drugs rule or ruin their life.

  • Comment removed

  • @caz4777 We r

  • @caz4777

    was it your father?

  • @mynewid666 No. See the comments of OZROCKFAN on the previous page.

  • @mynewid666 Thats a kinky sense of homour with a nice twist.

  • @richarm66 No. See the reply of OZROCKFAN on the previous page.

  • Anyone who thinks this guy and Ac Dc are from anywhere BUT Australia doesnt know anything about them or the history of rock music! They both played all the pub and hotel routes in Oz for years before anyone overseas had even HEARD of them! I know because we used to go and watch them! Their music syle and sound they play is classic Australian 70's pub rock. Bay city rollers was athe most famous Scottish band from this time!

  • @boltonox give the scots a bit more recognition. They also had Nazerth and Pilot.

Anyway, I agree with you. AC/DC were a great spark that came out of the explosion of the Australian Hard Rock and Blues movement; made famously by Billy Thorpe and Lobby Loyde. Buster Brown, AC/DC, Rose Tattoo and The Angels followed this... admittedly, a lot of it had to do with British migrants. Butr hell, the conditions of the Aussie pub scene demanded toughness. It's Australian!

  • @nzoz1975 Hey nzoz. I wasnt trying to be insulting to Scotts at all, my ex-girlfriend was scott heritage. The point i was trying to make was at this time (1975) the music style Stevie Wright, Ac Dc and plenty of other Aussie bands played was (Aussie Pub Rock) it wasnt even known outside of the country, so how can somebody from Scottland claim that Ac Dc and Stevie wright are Scottish bands. There Music wasnt heard overseas until Back in Black was realeased in the 80's,

  • @nzoz1975 Continued; Sure ther're of Scottish heritage, all Aussies know that, but there Persona/attitude and musical style was 100% Australian. Australians get annoyed when Scotts claim them as Scottish because all these guys grew up from very early childhood as Australians (ex-Brian) and more than that, they were always a BIG part of Australia's cultural identity back then and still are. B.C.R were a lot bigger than Pilot or Naz ever were over here. B.C.R got some killer guitar riffs

  • @nzoz1975 everyone's right! it's zero-pound rock from zero-pound british steel immigrant song rock jobs, mass-transported progeny of the ten pound mock jobbers. you had to rock, you were forced to, really, no matter the cost, whenever the call, rock is sweet and rock, sweet rock, is all. dig it. dig it all. no drugs at all. let there be rugs.

  • @boltonox he is 100% Oz stock? My mate told me he was a kiwi before he moved to Oz? Either way he is the bomb in this, his apex :D

  • @Zaphodox Yeah i just love his intensity in this music clip, sings it from the heart!

  • @boltonox Dude, Easybeats we going strong in the mid sixties, 64-65 right? but tell me when you saw them Live and what you thought, and when was it?

  • @DAVWAVE I didnt see the Easybeats perform, they were way before my time. I saw Ac Dc, Stevie Wright down at Bondi and the Show ground in the mid 70's. Lots of gooood rock bands playing the Australian pub curcuit then and we knew they'd be back next month so we didnt think about it much. I was only 13 or 14 back then but we still went to the pubs for a drink and watch bands. In Australia you only have to be 18 to drink and in those days NO ONE gave a shit anyway so it was never an issue.

  • Stevie should have replaced Bon Scott (RIP) after he so suddenly departed our world.

Stevie you own man. Bon well you were and still are the best.

  • he looks like he's out of his gourd in this video

  • @frizzlefrap Ha! Ha! Ha! your so right frizz thats why i love watching this clip so much! He looks seriously smashed!

  • @frizzlefrap indeed- very much so the poor bugger; have to wonder how he carried it off

  • Fantastic . Loved it at the time n still do. Stevie Wright is the god of oz music. Wouldn't it be great to see ACDC do a cover of Black Eyed Bruiser (Brian 'd do a great job of it) as a tribute to Stevie ... who was, without doubt, an influence on Bon (whether anybody admits it or not).

  • you thought this was good.listen to evie 1+2.

  • i thought stevie wright was from NZ not OZ?

  • He was the English born son of pommie immigrants who meet the other members of the Easybeats in Adelaide.

  • He's a brit? Oh sweet. I knew anyone this awesome had to be a fellow pome =p

  • @weenyone no, they met in Sydney - Villawood to be exact

  • @weenyone He met the other guys in Villawod!!

  • Bladdy fantastic ..

  • he looks stoned. lol

  • yep , think he was

  • Also of note, this song was written by Malcom and Angus' brother

  • is That Kevin Borich's sawn off Strat I see.. I remember it from Victoria park concert in '79 :-)

  • This is awesome, the sort of defiance in the lyrics remind me of some Bon scott stuff like problem child or TNT

  • Probably mentioned elsewhere is this thread but ACDC considered Stevie Wright the singer gig but decided against it and Bonn Scott got it instead. So the parallels are more than a coincidence

  • @weenyone he did however get a second chance at bein the new frontman for AC/DC after Bon died, but he never turned up,apparently he was off his face on drugs so they gave the lead to Brian

  • A really pity. Not a great fan of Brian's voice

  • @weenyone yeah,neither am i

  • @9sunskungfu um not quite, Stevie turned the job down , based on the fact that their songs were in too high a key for him! had nothing to do with his troubles with addiction.

  • one of steve's greatest songs for sure, this song wouldnt be out of place on an ACA DACA album, just lacking angus's touch.....

  • Great Australian song by Stevie. He was an unbelievable talent.

  • now this is a great Australian song,I had the pleasure to have seen Stevie play live a few times back in the late 80s,early 90s in some small pubs,he was great

  • I absolutely luv this guy. I'm have one bitch of a time getting his cd's though!

  • did stevie wright do tht song call I'V GOT THE POWER? i was on episode 10 of underbelly2. jst wen terry clark gets busted? if it is. where can i download it? plz plz get bk 2 me

  • @brotherwilson YES sure did!

  • Now 60 Stevie is a great guy and just happens to be a Australian Rock Icon. The wild man of Australian rock loves poetry and is a word smith. The lyrics mostly written by Stevie for the Easybeats was a record on charts here's to his next concert I'll be there.

  • God yes, Stevie Right, Some cool memories right here.

    Thanks for this video.

  • try stopping the progress indicator at yor favorite place , and grab those heavee intro beets .....that'll keep U amused ....daaahhh daaahh dahhh dahhh daaahhhh....

  • WHY AM i ALWAYS ACCOSTED BY SOMEONE BITCHING ABOUT SOME F***** ISSUE , RATHER THAN A SHORT COMMENTARY ON THE CLIP, THE LYRICS , THE MUSIC , THE PPL, OR THE TIMES ...GEEZ ...not everything has 2 b dissected ...SING IT SON....SO many songs in 1 ...some many moods , uppers & downers kikked in b 4 werds wer written ...yes I can spell

  • stevie and acdc and many other bands/blokes where products of the interface of being born in the uk/scot etc and emigrating with parents, as kids,to oz, which was big in the 60's ,to adelaide, and the discoverey of an untapped music scene and open arena, oz is so lucky to have had all these people come here, truly

  • On Rockwiz, they gave Angrys biog as Mauritius..they may have gotten it wrong, but he didnt correct them if he heard it.

If I saw his real name and he was Maltese Id probably know.

  • FUCKIN WASTED CUNT!

  • In hindsight yes you are quite correct.

  • Used to play this on my country radio show as a childdling in the early 90's. still great

  • Kevin BORICH on the stratocaster , definitely

  • Scotch actually. Young bros and Scott brothers are Scottish, many of our other rock legends are UK-born, including John Paul Young, Olivia Newton John, Kylie Minogue...I think Ive heard that Angry Anderson is from Mauritius, even though doesnt appear to be black.

The Vandas are dutchmen as noted.

  • Comment removed

  • i heard that angry was from malta

  • likewise heard it Underbelly 2 cities...funny it was never really a fave back then of mine, but sounded awesome coming down the corridors of time, the soundtrack of the show generally was very well chosen, not just all top 10 70s songs some more obscure ones.

  • Stevie Wright in fantastic form back then! I heard this song played on "Underbelly" recently. Hadn't heard it since my teenage years, and what great memories it brings back. I still love this song!!

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck the seventies was a good period in music

  • The drummer's name in this video is Larry Taylor (performing name was Larry Duryea). He passed away from cancer in 2003.

  • drummers name is jonny dick

its written in big letters on his bass drum

  • Can't say who's drums they are, but I can state with reasonable certainty that it is Larry Taylor, considering he is - was - my brother-in-law. He played for Tamam Shud and Stevie Wright and then Duck. He left Australia in 1981 and settled in L.A. He died of facial cancer in Dec 2003.

  • Comment removed

  • how about everyone just enjoy the cool clip of Stevie and shut the hell up?

  • I blocked the guy because I got very fed up with his comments and his stupid little messages he was sending me! It's a very fucked-up argument and it reeks of small-mindedness.

I really do wonder what Angus and Malcom Young actually think about this. I'm sure being rightfully diplomatic, they'd take both sides and try to reason their way through it, just to keep both parties happy. But I'm pretty sure their main point would be 'we respect our heritage! But we value the place we grew up in

  • Excessive phony jingoistic Aussie patriotism AND excessive heritage-awareness/flag-waving and adhering to old language poor English language after years and years by wogs etc, are BOTH indicative of small minds.

there was always an identity-crisis and an approval hang-up by Australians, but...the people who come as in to stay, and pointedly refuse to let go of a lot of their ethnic baggage, one is entitled to ask them to their face just why the FUCK DID you come here?

  • KateLicker, What the didies are you talking about.???

  • well said !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :o)

  • Australia sounds like the US in that immigrants bring so much talent and skills to the country. Just remember that band members left a Europe devastated by WWII, finding food and shelter, not to mention opportunity in Australia.

  • It was VERY common for an Aussie band to have one or two British-born members. However, by the time many of these guys were famous, they had aquired the accent and mannerisms of Australians. I also believe that Australia (at the time, most certainly not now) was very good learning ground for these acts as an Aussie audience could be very tough and demanding. You came up with an interesting point.

  • do you own the rights to all of these clips that you post or have you just nicked them a bit like Australia tries to nick AC/DC and pass them of as her own,AC/DC SCOTLANDS GREATEST GROUP NOT AUSTRALIAN AT ALL!!!!

  • I spoke to a Scotsman recently who actually didn't give a shit where AC/DC came from and assumed they were Aussie. I explained to him that three crucial members were born in Scotland and immigrated to Australia. He said something like 'so what. They migrated to Australia to become Australians like most people do'. Fuck fatley, I cannot see many other scotman trumpeting them as their own. Your argument is pointless and driven by insecurity. Just be proud that they were born in Scotland.

  • i guess the resonn acdc are considered to be an australian band is because most of them lived here in their childhood(even though they were born in scotland) and they started the band here and made it big here b4 any other country.

  • Well 'fatley', another of the worlds great frontmen was Freddie Mercury from Queen. Guess where he was from? No not from Britain but from Zanzibar with an Indian background. He emmigrated to Britain and chose to identify himself as a 'Pom'. Therefore we we regard him as being British, it's his choice! Angus Young still lives in Sydney and Stevie Wright lives in Narooma, It's their choice, live with it! If they want to identify themselves as being Aussie then so be it.

  • Let's not forget the Pretenders. I think most people would add them to the book of British Rock inspite the singer being an American. Van Halen were half Dutch. In fact, the Van Halen brothers migrated to US around the same age as the Youngs migrated to Australia. When you leave a country as a child and spend your adult life in a new country, you are a part of that new country - not the country you were born in initially.

  • Another great 'ex'scot Ted Mulray said that whem he came to Australia he was expecting to find "a quite backwater but instead he found a melting pot of creativity", (I dont remember the exact words). Bon Scott was a good example with his use of the bagpipes in 'A Long Way To The Top' but another good example was 'Bombora' by The Atlantics. It has a riff in it that is Greek Folk but thats not surprising, two members are Greek Aussies....As Ted said "a melting pot of creativity".

  • I think fatley should lay down and stop listening to those voices in his head, unless they say shut the fuck up!

  • Just like the first fleet, eh?

  • Australia was bombed more than 100 times during WWII. Please do not start an argument.

I was brought up to never enter a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

  • abcpaultigecba, were you responding to me? I did know that Australia was bombed. But, did not know it was 100 times. I only mentioned the impact of WWII on Europe and the Age of Austerity may have resulted in the emigration of these band members to Australia.

  • No worries mate. Probably just a mutual misunderstanding.

  • oink oink mr burger,im coming to Australia in march but it wont make me an Aussie,AC/DC SCOTLANDS GREATEST BAND GREATER THAN FRANZ FERDINAND,GREATER THAN THE SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND,GREATER THAN THE POETS,JOSEF K,ORANGE JUICE,FRANKIE MILLER,THE FIRE ENGINES,THE ASSOCIATES ALL SCOTTISH AND BRILLIANT JUST LIKE OUR BELOVED ANGUS YOUNG AND HIS MIGHTY BROTHERS SONS OF GLASGOW AND NOT AUSTRALIAN AT ALL,OINK OINK BURGER BOY!,

  • Bay City Rollers, Pilot, Nazareth, Simple Minds, Altered Images, Texas...

Why is it that Scotland's greatest export just so happened to have learned their skills and trade in Australia?

As I advised you before, find a Dutchman who is an insecure as you are and get him to march on behalf of Van Halen.

  • Stealer's Wheel and Gerry Raffety...

Some patriot you are! Leaving out some credible names!

  • ah little Stevie Wright that great Yorkshireman from Leeds not Australian at all great mates with SCOTLANDS finest band AC/DC who are also NOT Australian..AC/DC PRIDE OF SCOTLAND!!!!

  • shame that Scotland's pride are from Australia .... but hey, Scotland still had Bay City Rollers and Pilot.

  • Do you have any more footage from this performance??

  • unfortunately, i don't... however, there's a video of John Paul Young doing 'Yesterday's Hero', which can be found on this channel.

  • That is a shame. Thank you though, I will take a look at the John Paul Young video. By the way, do you know what this concert tour was called? I am a collector of Stevie Wright material, and maybe I could search around for more of this footage, if I knew the name. Thanks again. :D

  • i'll try and find out

  • Thank you very much! :D

  • this commentbox is fun!!!!!!

you guys take this too serious,so i join team fatley!

  • Thank you for uploading this, I have been wanting to see this. :D

  • We'll claim him as most of England thinks AC/DC is a british band.

  • Great song and an Australian legend!

  • he was born in LEEDS,ENGLAND,so how is he an Australian legend?

  • Drummers name is Johnny Dick

Used to see him, Kevin Borich and Rockwell T James popping up on a lot of Aussie music clips in the 70's and 80's

  • Comment removed

  • Scotland claiming AC/DC?

Well apart from Andy Stewart (Donald Where's Your Troosers?), the Bay City Rollers (Yesterday's Hero, an Aussie song), and Lulu (Boom Bang A Bang) I suppose you have to grab at any straw.

baal009 aka fatley, back to crofting in the Outer Hebrides for you wee laddie.

  • If AC/DC were Scottish, they would have missed out on the influence of Billy Thorpe, Lobby Lloyd and other Aussie-rocker toughmen....

If AC/DC were Scottish, they might have ended up sounding like Pilot or Nazareth - two of the most popular Scottish bands in the mid 70's.

  • Not one of his best songs, a bit corny lol, poor old stevie hit the piss big time & blew all his dough on dumb shit, he looks a bit pissed here in this clip, he reminds me of Bon Scott a little bit? Anyway, "way to go" all heil to rock n roll !

  • from somebody who has contributed jackshit to youtube.

  • OMG. Why wasn't this played in USA. I would've bought it. Love Stevie. HE rocks!

  • nzoz you never cease to amaze me. Where the hell did you dig this up from? Compare this with the Tatts version.

  • thank you... i've had this video for nearly 20 years.

  • Stevie Wright is not very convincing as a bruiser.

  • Are you kidding? Just look at him dance!

  • I think that he got more bruises than he gave, but I suppose that he would have gotten even more without the dancing.
