  • Fresh City Farms is a great option for anyone in Toronto!

  • haha stupid canadians!!

  • @ReticRhinoMan oh let me guess .. from the US? well if you think Canada is bad, check out the southern food situation, they don't produce a variety of foods either. Corn, soy, wheat, GMO corn, GMO soy, and GMO wheat.. Canadians are trying to stop American exports of their GM foods.. ITS GARBAGE.. AND TOXIC and we don't want it in Canada.

  • I'm canadian and I prefer to buy foreign foods. Its not because I hate Canada, or our farmers, or whatever. Its because it costs less. I recently went to a farmers market, thinking that I might start to buy locally. However, I found that the price of vegetables there to be a lot higher that those of local supermarkets. 89 cent/pound for tomatoes? Nope. 3.99/pound. Apples 99 cents a pound? Nope. 4.29/ pound.

  • @turretsCanada that is so unfortunate.. of course it is cheaper to buy imported foods, its common economics of supply and demand. There is a great supply of imported food so it becomes cheap. Especially considering that the farmers in most of these countries are living and feeding their families for less than a dollar a day. They produce cheap food for us to eat while starving themselves just to make a buck. Not only are you hurting your own country, but your health, as the standards not same...

  • 390 dislikes because there are stacks more Americans than Canadians on the internet. ....

  • People need to stop assuming that Walmart is the place to buy groceries. Take a hard look at your diet, your food supply. In the name of "food safety"??. The hard part is teaching people to not be so stupid. At some point, the government has legislated itself into the position of supreme power over our stomachs, and you know what they say....an army travels on it's stomach. Control the food, control the population.

  • …The ONE CURE for ALL Political, Economic, Civic, and Social Evils is a Scientific, MONEYLESS, Full-Employment, Consumer-Based Economy that will build Ideal, Private, Self-Sufficient, Self-Governing, Populated-Limited, Family Owned Sovereign Cities that will replace primitive Bankster/Investor/Government-based Money-Barter Economies that build Unplanned, Crime-Ridden, Mixed Race, Public Slumlord Slave-Labor Concentration Camps.

…See YouTube "The Revolutionary ConsumerCard Article”.

  • To my fellow Americans: Our farmers are the food industries bitchs. The food we eat at mc Donalds is not only bad for you but it's source it comes from could easily kill you. But then if your dead they can't really sell their products. It burdens me to say that a man like me who used to eat pounds of meat refuses to eat that bullshit they serve(litteraly some of it has fecal matter in it) I would rather go from being a 230pound meat eating all American man to a 150pound man. Btw it's cheaper to

  • The only thing that involves and from Canada is maple syrup.

  • i helped my bro

  • I'm not Canadian but I approve of this message. To ricktbdgc: Welcome to the Dawn of the New Age (of ogligarchy). The Mess Age is simple. What a mess this age is.

  • Hey did you know that molson canadian beer is owned by americans!? The commercial for the stuff still to this day has images of canada, to summon a feeling of patriotism to buy the beer in our own name. FUCK that.. How the hell are we supposed to know shit about anything you can't even believe what is told to us.. made in canada? or made FROM canada, sold back to us at a premium, but wheres the money go? us corporations. The concept of a village is gone, we are part of the machine now

  • lmao who gives a fk

  • I'm Canadian and NOW I understand why all the fruit tastes like NOTHING. No taste at all, unripened, water tasting or sour pieces of nothing for how much??? US might be growing food out of their "asses" but who the fuck cares if it has no taste?? Everything is artificial in the states now along with geneticaly and hormonaly induced produce. You can keep it, proud USA!

  • im in america we owe billions of dollars of oil but who cares we have food growing out our asses lol

  • lol canadians

  • This really is an excellent production. Thank you to whoever posted this.

  • canada was never self sufficient. everyone knows that -_-

  • my friend thinks i'm to picky when just want to eat real food

  • Wow we need a US version of this! Amazing work!

  • Go on!!!

Be as greedy as you can!!!

Let me understand. You want export as much as possible, but want to import as little as possible. It sounds familiar to me. Isn't it some thing from the middle ages?

People in Africa will buy you industrial products but they cannot sell anything to you. Let them starve isn't it?

  • Same here, fruit from chile and mexico grown w/ human feces and bulk apple juice, seafood from china and vietnam.

  • I wanna live in Canada

  • The grocery store are part of the people to blame, cause they can play the game of getting the cheapest price. For instance let says it's blueberry time, now they want to get it as low as possible,to give them a spot on the shelf, versus trying to for canadian product to be use. I've seen that game for new brunswick potatoes, and other vegetables. Buy all you can straight from the producer, it's the best way to keep the money in the country.

  • CANADIA IZ DA WAI 2 GO

  • bullshit. Whoever makes the food can decide what to do with it themselves, ship it out or eat it. The same goes for the people who imports food. Just be happy with the low prices

  • I want to know how much of this shit is really GMO! I've had produce with a PLU code that said it was grown conventionally, when it was obviously GMO! Example: a tomato that is left out of the fridge for a week and isn't even soft yet.

  • I don't get the whole "local food movement". I think what people really want is accountable food. I want to know who grew it and when, so I can know how old it is, and if it's part of a bad batch or part of a farm land that uses something I don't want on my food (like pesticides.)

  • Thanks Hellmann's, great vid. But we also consumers need to buy direct from local farmers through farmer's markets and community-supported agriculture agreements. Institutions and large retailers selling massive amounts of food need to make it their policy to buy local too!

  • I like this video. We should support our own. More people should know about this and realize the importance of self-sufficiency. EXPORT... not IMPORT.

  • 1:16 Impacts your health number 1, the further the product is, the worse. Its picked unripe and covered is pesticide and preservatives , your eating toxic garbage

  • do we watch in Ontario

    or we deny the reality

  • Comment removed

  • it really does show the truth, the food system is so messed up that it aint even funny, especially in the US.

  • Bring on the cheap food. I want blueberries from Argentina in February. When fruit and veg is in season locally, I'll buy it because it's better but I'm not going to eat rutabaga and cabbage all winter.

And... I'm sorry, but that site is BS. I can't get fresh corn in Ontario in winter.

  • This the main cause of why everything is so damn expensive!!!

We have shit loads of land, but No one wants to invest the money 2 be producing so we import everything (mostly from U.S)

ANd if we do make our own food? We will create more jobs. and the cost of living will drop. But Canada doesn't think about cost price. because we're all billionaires in their eyes. :s

  • @m33lad Take an economics class. It would be MORE expensive if Canada produced food because it takes Canada more resources to grow, say oranges, than Florida does. If we all specialize in what we're good at then food is cheaper. If you don't believe me go farm oranges and try to sell them under 79 cents each and live comfortably.

  • Canadians are to cheap to pay the real cost of food, Especially those in Eastern Canada. Wheta was $3.00 a bushel 80 years ago...today, $3.00 a bushel and we can't even grind it ourselves and make flour and bread from it...value adding. Bet rid of the CWB, which Ontario and Quebec don't have to abide by, the egg and milk production boards, which Quebec dominates and let competition reign. Get the gov't out of farming As far as organic, starve or remortgage the house. production is 1/3

  • Well, it's winter about 57% of the time so how else would you get fresh vegetables and fruit year round? Eat local when you can.

When I was growing up the only produce we had in the winter was canned. In the summer we practically lived on fresh peaches. Today I can't even look at a peach!

  • isn't there a banned on pesticides

  • Local food is awesome I have never eaten store bought meet or eggs at home because we grow it.

  • sry, but in this economy, bottom line is how much its going to cost us. Consumers will always purchase cheaper goods, no matter what, unless we get the luxury of spoiling ourselves on organic, healthy and/or local produce. Look at Wal-mart!

  • Good Food For Everyone!

  • I'd rather spend my money on healthy local produce then Fast Food and inflated restaurant prices for a quick meal fix. I'm not a firm believer in 100 % organic practices since the amount of yield you get in the crop dose suffer but if you want tasteless tomatoes from Mexico it's your call.

  • unbelievable sheesh farmers get the shaft it is ridiculous

  • And now I'm hungry.

  • Nice lobbying propaganda. This does not make sense in a globalized world. What they're appealing for is more subsidization (paying farmers in rich nations triple what they make themselves to undercut famers in poor countries whose survival depends on selling to richer nations).

By convincing yourselves that it's Canada's priority to grow tomatoes rather than produce cars & porno films, you're halting development in the 3rd world, thus contributing to world poverty & hunger.

  • Forcing developing countries to produce monoculture-grown GMO fruits and vegetables in order to stock 1st world grocery stores is NOT development, and actually has a devastating impact on the local environment and economy in those countries. Maybe you should stop watching so much Canadian-made porn and do some research. Local is best for everyone.

  • Developed countries produce more genetically modified food than anyone. And the farmers in rich nations benefit from growing that crap while the farmers in poor nations benefit from growing organic, which they try to do when possible.

Indeed local is better for everyone in a perfect world. And in a perfect world, water wouldn't' be routed away from Mexican farmers to power the Hoover dam for Las Vegas. 1 billion people wouldn't be starving in a perfect world.

  • "farmers in poor nations benefit from growing organic"

Idiot. They use cheap toxic pesticides. You're a troll. Get lost.

  • @tiptiptapable If its true organic they dont use anykind of man made pesticides !!

  • hhmmm, well where does most organic food come from using statistics.. are there some stats?

  • In oder to be organic food you cant use anykind of man made herbicides, pesticides or fertilizer.Farmers will tell you that being organic is a huge pain in the ass and alot of work ! Go google it and do some reading..

  • no I meant COUNTRIES that most organic food comes from

  • yeah!!! eat local!!!

  • WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOOT?

  • banana republic... ;)

  • LOL. I like this. :D

  • wai u do dis canada

  • the US does it too

  • I have to question some of their stats - I would rather drink packed in Canada Orange Juice than Packed in China orange juice - Same for coffee - Many food additives come from afar and we have the capacity to make them here

  • This is the worst possible green washing. I don't know, Unilever, why don't you tell us if cheap imports are really worth it.

  • REALLY NICE ANIMATION!

  • why the hek i wach ths...¿

  • I'm pretty sure farmers do very well no matter the market. Hurray for subsidies. Not just in Canada, the European Union dedicates %40 of its spending as subsidies for farmers. The US pays out farmers NOT to over-produce...

    Sad.

  • yea ur rite about that in the u.k we export loads of lamb from n.z 2 the u.k we can produce them cheeper here than they can grow them them selfs seem werd seen as how thers plenty of farm land especialy in scottland but as the locals say they r paid 2 farm birds and butterflys or to have a bird nest in ther paddock or even strainger not to have anything at all on your land its called set aside work that out.i carnt.

  • Doesn't matter to me since it all ends up the same shit in the end.

  • More propaganda bullshit, probably all a scam. I live in Canada as well.

  • hellmann's commercial? wtf? i dont find a problem with importing. less farm land means more natural forests and protected envrioments.

  • big problem! Open your eyes.

  • Secretly a plot for canada to take over the world

  • @narutoidontknow Go on!!!

Be as greedy as you can!!!

Let me understand. You want export as much as possible, but want to import as little as possible. It sounds familiar to me. Isn't it some thing from the middle ages?

People in Africa will buy you industrial products but they cannot sell anything to you. Let them starve isn't it?

  • That sucks =/, I don't live in canada though so...

  • boooooooooooooooo ! ! ! ! !

WHAT AN AWFUL "COMERCIAL" FOR THE CANADA

  • Nice that they don't care about any other countries at all.

"we import only cuz we're lazy"

Let's not import from the poor contries let them rot!"

    Bullshit.

  • We should all be boycotting McDonalds in Canada anyway, since they made the decision a few months ago to get all the beef they use here from South America. They wouldnt get away with that down in the states.

  • the funny thing is i buy Canadian tomatoes all the time at winco down here in southern cali... so wtf is up with that? are Canadians getting u.s. grown tomatoes? its just insane! although Canadian tomatoes are ever so tasty! i <3 Canada!

  • Nice video. Maybe if people would just think for a second, instead of putting another crappy Mcdonalds why don't they use that space for farming crops or whatever. I mean sometimes they just put stupid shit that takes up so much space and is totally useless to us.

  • In this video: Brainwashed "alternative" teenagers believe bullshit propaganda.

    Go canada!

  • imported tomatoes taste like junk.

  • this video shows the truth...

we all should follow this rules.....

  • The brainless and the self serving are out in force in this comments section. How typically selfish. The problem is simple - food travels from places where it can be produced cheaply. This happens at huge cost to the environment. It's a worldwide phenomenon and the solution is simple but difficult.

  • This is capitalism and consumerism starting to show their bad sides.

  • you suck

  • Maybe they don´t produce that much food, but they have Rush!!!

  • So you buy local and the biggest local farmer passes on and his family isn't into farming. They sell the land , the house is made into a bed and breakfast, the barn is now horse stables and the farm land is being subdivided ! Now what ? Wal-marts24/7 and everyone is cool with that

  • @indez23 actually everyone is not cool with that. I'm not. And the reason the local farm gets turned into a b&b? because we did not support it. We bought our food from mass-farms in Mexico (and other countries) that pay their labourers pennies WE are to blame for local farms failing, not the farmer's family. Small scale farms are not able to make it unless WE change, WE buy from them, STOP shopping at Wal-Mart, shop local.

  • @FunkyMunkysCa hell, they are trying to pass bills to outlaw growing a garden on your own property, people had made youtube vids about it.

  • i don't care what i eat or where it comes from. as long as it tastes good

  • Comment removed

  • If you listen closely to what the narrator says, she doesn't actually give any reason why it matters where Canadians food comes from, other than the implication that if the world trading system completely falls apart it will be easier to get food nearby. She hints at the economy and the environment but there's no actual case made. The whole thing is an appeal to emotion.

  • This problem concerns all canadians!!! We MUST change our ways and convince others to do the same.

  • This problem effects more then just one country.

  • The problem concerns all the world the food producing countries too, the prices are so high thanks to the exports if everybody eat what they produce there would be a balance ,,, I hope

  • I hope people realize that the reason for food being imported, was from the beginning so that they could get cheaper things. If Canada for example, stopped importing food for instance, than it's food prices would probably leap massively for awhile. So it really is a trade off in the end.

  • local food is still available in Canadian grocery stores, people just don't realize and or care when they pick their produce. if Canadians made a conscious decision to at least buy more local it would benefit the economy, we would never only buy local because we are so multicultural that many customers shopping at the local grocery aren't even Canadian and don't care to support local farmers and are supporting their home country by not buying local! Call me an ass but i witness it every day

  • I'd say that's how Canadians will fix their country, by having people like you speak louder XD

    And I'm not even a Canadian :D

  • screw it. i can't just judge food, yeah i know it helps the economy... but food is too good to be judged. and im not a fatty. lol

  • I would like to support you ,but can local food a little cheap

  • every US system is in trouble. can we have some commercials? lol

  • lol, u have bigger problems on your plate than local food, good luck with the commercial request though!

  • i dont live in canada yeah!!!!

  • if this was a school project, i'd get an A+

  • true

  • I subscribed as to hear more plus I Liked those little farms

  • Sponsored by Hellmans???

  • are they calling america fat

  • come on! don't be in denial...

  • It looks like GDP is no more in the produce! Kinda scary and I do not know how to stop all this.!? SOMEONE STOP IT!

    Wheres my Doritos.

  • are they calling america fat

  • haha hell mans

  • yep its all about total control and take over. get ready for the nwo

  • I totally agree. My man. Man does not live on bread alone but every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Someone said food is power more than once. As long as MSNBC keeps playin some may miss it.

  • OUR

  • we need to grow are food and stop buying from other places it should be in the old days you know keep our jobs at home and keep our soil RICH

  • we need more commercials like this in the states.

  • XD and i was planning to move to Canada. But I guess this is still somewhat better than the U.S?

  • silly canadians =)

  • Well I Do Not Care What Happen's I Am A Meatatarian (=

  • This is just some more of the misguided nonsense being circulated these days. The makers of this video obviously have no idea about economics or environmental effects of farming, otherwise they wouldn't be feeding this rubbish to the masses.

  • I only eat foods grown or raised by American midgets with lower back pain.

    That's how I roll.

  • wtf was that supposed to mean, missed the joke.

  • You think midgets are a joke?

WTF is wrong with you. They are people just like you and I.

They have feelings and they feel pain you cold hearted suon-of-a-bitch!!

  • ???!?!??!?!?!?!?

How do I lock down a supply of midgets for my farm operation? Who sent you?!?!?! And how long till the back pain kicks in? are mexican midgets the best?!?!?!

  • wtf? What a random conversation.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • sorry wrong person lmao

  • Canada dose NOT SUCK

    ~Bailey ps skary jerk

  • Hear Hear! :)

  • its sucks

  • awsom video...its true

  • Comment removed

  • so does CHEEZSALAD.. lol

  • lol your american aren't you?

  • of course canada will have to import fruit its cold there.

  • so its good for the economy

  • You know what that is called?

    Capitalism.

  • Excellent post

    GR8 points

Eat local! Grow ur own - even better

  • this is FUNNY

  • Maybe some idiots want to eat pesticide/preservative ridden fruits & veggies from God knows where... I sure as hell don't.

One of these days, someone is going to die from a Chinese apple...

  • All foods contain pesticide. Do you think foods without synthetic pesticides keep the bugs away by sitting down with them and negotiating a treaty of non-aggression?

And another phrase for "No Preservatives" is "Currently Rotting." If something isn't being preserved, then it's rotting, right?

My point isn't about pesticides or preservatives per se, rather it is to try to get people to drop the dogma and pre-conceived notions. "Natural" isn't automatically better, with respect to anything.

  • what ABOOT other products? ABOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!

  • Can You Resist Clicking On My Name?

  • the same thing is happening in jamaica

  • Yep in Jamaica, foreign food is cheaper than domestic grown food. At the end of the day Jamaican farmer is hurting. Nothing is free or fair about free trade.

  • exactly

  • haha i thought was gonna be a parody when i first clicked it. haha but it was legit...

  • Haha, i was expecting something along the same lines. Something that would make me laugh. Now i actually learned something today.

  • haha well i ended up laughing at it anyways...

  • Politicians are like transformers. Politicians con men in disguise! Politicians more than meets the eye! So stop trusting the television, research the fools before we vote them in. When we choose not to think for ourselves, those that do will not only think for us, but also control us.

  • I blame these dam "free trade agreements". Any time a politician talks about free trade, we should "free trade" them out of their office with someone with the interest of the people at heart. What makes me upset is that these politicians are destroying the country they live in. Why would anyone destroy a place they call home? Why would anyone destroy the country of constituents who put them in office? What stops the constituents from learning more about the person before voting them in?

  • That sucks, you guys should vote those politicians out. I am American and we are in the same boat when it comes to food.

  • this sucks

  • News aside, this animation is cool!

  • cool , nice canadians , keep importing foods from our country, let us take away all your money looool

  • Yeah OK.... Im going to pay more money while everyone else saves- No thank you...Im not willing to be a cashier "martyr."

What we NEED to do is stop the New World Order and the manipulation of the world economy- go back to a GOLD standard, etc.

THEN, and only then will the average family be able to purchase ALL of their groceries from local sources.

In the meantime, that ECUADORIAN turkey and that Dominican corn is sure smelling great!!!! :-)

  • LOL, at going back to the gold standard. Who do you think has all the gold? If you did that, the NWO would be the only people with any money. The banks have already taken everything of real value and replaced it with pieces of paper and bits on computer disks, so we're kind of screwed and at their mercy either way.

  • that Ecuadorian Turkey tasted great!!! hmmmm

    Pass the Peruvian dessert, please.

  • I posted before that if producing food locally is so important then shouldn't we use the land cleared when the Twin Towers were knocked down to plant food for people that live in NYC? Someone asked what I meant. My point is, if location were all that mattered then we should use Twin Towers land to plant food for people in NYC so we wouldn't have to ship it in. Should we do that? Why or why not?
