herbar1 misstates the case. gordon-reed and everyone else agrees that there can be no "indisputable, conclusive" proof that TJ fathered Sally Hemings' children. what there can be is an overwhelming preponderance of evidence that supports that claim. The DNA testing was just icing on a cake. gordon-reed is absolutely correct in pointing out that supposedly neutral historians have long been embarassingly prejuidiced and pro-jefferson in examining this question. hebar1 continues the pattern.

Annette Gordon-Reed does NOT have any proof that TJ fathered 7 of Sally's children. In her first book she states that the descendant of Eston Hemings was not proven by DNA that he was descended from Thomas Jefferson..........so how did she conclude in the 2nd book that he did? She knows that the claim that Tom Woodson was also disproven by DNA. She also knows that Madison Hemings was IN ERROR in reporting being named at Monticello by Dolley Madison, but she seeks to add HER explanation of this.

Annette Reed presents supposition as fact. She therefore has very little credibility.
