@123Tagi They don't. They don't colonize, co habitat or 'mobilize' in groups. Quite the opposite. Unless mating, they see each other as a potential meal.
@mike235697 wrong. it's named this because they have been recorded/documented by locals of growing 11-13 inches in legspan, and living as many as 15 plus in a single burrow, hunting live prey and many times taking down livestock birds. Get your facts straight before speaking ridiculous things. Also caring for their young much longer than the average spider or tarantula would.
Locals in places like this also claim dog sized spiders drag away their young.
Trust me, I'm the in invertebrate trade I know the south American genus' and none of them have any social behaviors. Its a myth. The only places you'll see communal behaviors among tarantulas is some few African species and among the Poeclotheria sp. in India.
And this spider looks to be a Grammostola Pultra, they get about six inch leg spans and DON'T colonize or have any communal behavior.
@thehat222 I don't need you trying to school me on spiders or tarantula. I have over 30 of them INCLUDING Grammostola Pulchra. And your info isn't validated evidence. What you claim to be myth, you have no evidence of it. And that would call you a liar for spreading false information simply because you feel the need to. Until you move within the area, film these tarantula and can refute what locals say, then YOUR claims are myth. End of story.
it could be many species of T, not a 'chicken spider'. and @simonsex why the hell would you kill it. honestly i have many T's and some have even gone for me, but i would never hurt them. they are amazing creatures!!!!!
Yeah I agree completely. I think this whole "chicken spider" thing is just a common way to say big black spider among Peruvians. Could very well be Pamphobeteus antinous.
stop poking it you retards
