@MarkiedeZA As the editor of this commercial, I know, that half of the actors were not smokers. That's why they had to work so hard, take after take, to make it look convincing.
If they marketed cigarettes the same way as they market vegetables, no one would want to smoke. If they said sprouts were dangerous, everyone would eat them. James bond would eat them and they'd be expensive. "Sprout, Miss Funnyfanny?" "Ooh yes James, always after sex." Nyom nyom nyom.
im not a regular smoker but every now and then I will pick up a 20 pack of Stuyvesant classics for a special occasion, and they taste great and give you a great nicotine buzz. the best cigarette on the market!
In the late '90's, I purchased a package of Stuyvesants at the local Texaco gas station in St.Albert, Alberta, Canada (they literally had 200 different brands of cigarettes available-and would personally order obscure brands for customers) Unfortunately, mine were stale, but came in a very attractive gold, flip-top box. The biggest brands here are du Maurier, Players, Export "A" etc. Now, that gas station is an Esso (totally "remodeled") and has forever lost the cool vibe.
I used to go aircraft spotting when I was 11 and everyone smoked in the terminals. This brand used to advertise implying that pilots used the brand 'jet set' etc
Many 'fools' were dragged in. One of my friends in 1972 started smoking. He was 11 as well. We used to go to Gatwick on Saturdays. from as early as I can remember I thought smoking was really stupid. Who died of lung cancer last year who is alive today! Advertising Murderers.
@MrAlmaco also many years ago,,,people just did not live as long anyway.....back when the life expectancy was about 65 years old a lot of people died of other things before lung cancer got them........the flu, farm accidents, the common cold, bad home made liquor, no refridgeration; food poisioning, being thrown from a horse, wars...etc...etc
I remember watching these ads so clearly at the cinema when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's. Little did I know back then that I'd be seeing many of these places thanks to budget flights with low cost airlines. So much for the 'jet-setter lifestyle'.
@rillenkarren While on the 555 State Express on the way to DUNHILL I met this TEXAN called PAUL REVERE, who held me RANSOM for a 1000 GOLD DOLLARS. When hes wasn't Looking I pulled out My GUNSTON and shot him in the LEXINGTON oh man that was my LUCKY STRIKE!!!! EISH I Still remembered that, who said I was suffering from ALTEZHEIMERS or whatever its called?
"The international passport to...smoking pleasure" - we saw those ads at every movie and every drive-in show we went to. Powerful and very effective - the ads were great to watch since so few of us were destined to see / experience those things - of course now the world has opened up. Still glad cig ads are banned though.
i have a pack of thos cigs.. i bought them just too see how good they are.. but i dont smoke.. i just want to try.. how much nicotine is in it? and how good is it?
We had rules here in South Africa where they were shown, that these commercials, called Cinema Specials, were only allowed to show product in the final 15 seconds.
Saw this ad as a kid at the cinema before the main feature back in the day.Still smoke a pack a day.I want this theme tune played at my funeral.Did all of the above and loved life...Tabacco is not a crime!!!
Agreed kingturello, stuyvo classics are a tasty cigarette. And that little bit of bite is great for a cold winters night. Shit i could almost make that into a commercial.
i used to work with a bunch of guys from south africa they would have someone ship them a couple cartons a month of stuyvesant i tried one they taste about like a winston
It is true there is not much left of smokers, except the smokers themselves. So I sit here, watching this commercial, working on an essay, smoking a delicious Stuyvesant Classic.
Oh, and they are available in Australia too. They are a very popular luxury cigarette here.
OK then: I blame the cultural boycott... I wonder if they were available in the States, seeing as though they were named after some bloke who apparently rode a horse in or near New York...
They definitely are not. I have never in my life have seen Stuyvesant cigarettes sold anywhere in the U.S., even on my travels to other cities in the country outside of Chicago.
I'm guessing the only places these cigarettes are sold, and based on other comments I've read here, are in Europe, since this is the first time I've heard of this brand. Regardless, I enjoyed seeing this commercial, and always forget that there were countries that legally allowed movie/TV cig advertising past the 1970s!
Ooops, I also meant to say that these are(obviously) sold in Australia, in addition to Europe! Wouldn't be surprised if you also could find them in New Zealand.....
DID YOU KNOW? In Malaysia, the displaying of cigarette packets in advertisements has been banned since 1 January 1995. However, this has not stopped tobacco companies from advertising their products.
Starting from 1 January 2003, the Malaysian federal government has even banned such indirect advertising of tobacco brands, except in certain establishments licensed to sell tobacco products.
Just reply me why cigarette advert has been banned in many countries including Malaysia.
all over Europe, it's forbidden to advert tobacco brands, it's forbidden to advert tobacco brands on telivision and in sports, it's forbidden to smoke in public areas and pub's, so what's left of the smoker? NOTHING.
Yeapp and it's also forbidden to advertise on billboards and in magazines/newspapers in Europe. Almost every country in Europe have outlawed (or are about to) smoking in public places. I remember though I smoked on a commercial flight as late as 1997, so it isen't that long ago that you where allowed to smoke everywhere.
That depends on what you mean by billboard. Ads inside shops are pretty much ok I think.
Yeah Österreich is one the few EU-countries where you are allowed to smoke in dining places, bars and clubs. But I suspect you get some sort of ban too. I'm Swedish and smoking in public places was outlawed here in 2005. The latest ban was this year when it became illeagal to smoke in prisons indoors.
Cigarette commercials stopped on TV in the late seventies, but continued in cinemas until the late eighties. After that, for about four years, 7-min specials, like the other Peter Styvesant Californis clip, also on shortfinals, were permitted.
Yes, of course. This is cigarette advert. I don't hate this ad but I hope for advertiser don't say PETER STUYVESANT - "The international passport to smoking pleasure". Just say PETER STUYVESANT TRAVEL - "The international passport to travelling pleasure". Thanks for read my comments.

Billboard advertising of cigarettes was banned in the USA in April of 1998.
Cigar/Chewing tobacco TV commercials
was banned in the USA in 1986.
Cigarette TV commercials were banned in the USA on Jan. 2, 1971.
Commercial free speech, as guaranteed by the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution, is very narrowly defined to practically non-existent.
Sad but true.
