Not only was this John's first album and full tour with the chili peppers (as he is in this video), but they did cover this song before. This version is the best and i must say...flea's stuffed animal pants are the most badass thing i've ever seen!

It is track 2 on his 1985 album 'Some Of My Best Jokes Are Friends'. As always though, the RHCP have injected some punk energy into a wholesome Funk tune, and came up with this gem!
