  • Swimming blindfolded? Not even once.

  • Longer strides on one side of your legs could cause the turn.

  • thumb up if u read the manga called Uzumaki before watching this video

  • QI

  • 2 questions-

whose voice is this? (there are credits for 'correspondent' and 2 'actors', but which of them read?) (i'd assume correspondent').

    and

does which way you go have anything to do with being left- or right-handed...?

(or brained? That would be interesting to know)

  • thumbs up if mythbusters sent you here

  • how could someone in a vehicle make such drastic turns toward the end but never turn the wheel...? that doesn't really make sense.

  • Interesting.

  • Maybe they think they may be heading one direction so they try to correct themselves and overcompensate? That seems reasonable to me

  • Wow. This video definitely reminds me of this manga called Uzumaki. The whole town is like cursed with a spiral and after all the people are devoured, the curse of the spiral starts all over again. The people have to interwine themselves and everything. So yeah, it's so interesting to know that humans blindfolded can't walk straight. Lol, the curse of the spiral! HAHA! XD

  • I want to see more of these videos just because the animation is so brilliant!

  • Testing a blind person might actually make a difference. People with sight may rely more on there eyes to help guide them, but blind people do not.

  • omg...we humans arent made to be straight? NOOOOOOOOO

  • lol at the tags

  • is it because of the earth's spin?

  • I'm actually more amused by the animation. It's amazing.

And I've never actually thought about that before, interesting fact :)

  • that is amaing amination

  • I'm wondering why the first man asked the guy to even start this..was it a thoery he himself came up with? Or did he do it because that book or somekind of teacher he had told him that it's impossible or something..I think this theory is awesome, I had never known this before..but the end where it says that no-one can explain why makes me feel like this was kind of a waste of time..I want to understand why now!!

  • what software did he use on the animation ?

  • It would be interesting to see how a dog or a cat would perform on this test since they don't depend on there eyes as much as the human

  • The answer for such behavior is simple : those people are dumb

  • if we manege to walk in circles will we walk straight ? lol

  • lol

  • ^.^ i like the music at the end :P

  • Well , The world isnt flat, It round , maybe that why we cant walk straight, Just sayin XD , Love the animation btw

  • @Pchaofan that is a pretty good theory IMO :)

  • We did this experiment today in science and I noticed that at every 5th step you take, your non dominant foot takes a wide step to a side a little. Just my theory.

  • If we can't walk in a straight line, then that means we walk in a gay line? Weird.

  • Hey is it the same in the North and the South Hemisphere?

Example clockwise in the Northern Hem.

and counter clockwise in the southern Hem?

Like how the water is opposite directions in toilets from

    North and south hemispheres!?

  • @marty1160 Thats a myth, water can go down a toilet or sink in any direction and is influenced by how it's introduced to the bowl, the earth's rotation has such a negligible influence it has no real effect.

  • I learned that it was because of the earth's rotation.

  • Magnets how do they work?

  • 2 people can walk straight blindfolded.

  • Why was Jack Black pointing in the direction he wanted the blindfolded man to go?

  • ahhh someone beat me to the chuck norris bit... lol

  • Chuck Norris can walk straight blindfolded

  • @slickcriz41 chuck norris jokes suck you lame fuck

  • @JoolianV You must be fun at parties.

  • SEE CHRISTIANS? ITS NOT UP TO US TO GO STRAIGHT.

  • @chrisvandekamp nothing to do with gays

  • @JonniL0ve \

The Tags do say homo so...

  • What does this mean for sleep walkers?

  • amazing animation! Lol

but also why do the circles spiral like that?

  • are you calling everyone a homo

  • 1 person can walk straight.

  • OMG Facts .

  • If you were put in a maze and follow one side of a wall for the rest of the course you would eventually reach the finish line. Now if a human were to do that without a maze, they would be going in circles trying to search for that side of the maze or a reference point. IMHO

  • why is jack black asking a person to walk in a straight line blindfolded?

  • Maybe it's because of the rotation of the Earth. I know it shouldn't be so drastic but it still might have something to do with it.

  • @Kistarcsa That's exactly what I was thinking.

  • ..Why is "homo" the only tag?

  • @ColonelRashid I think "homo" can mean man? i was wondering the same thing, i think thats why

  • @ColonelRashid I guess it's a joke from the description "Just go straight".

  • Imagine if they were drugged/ drunk... or in Vampire Academy series, compulsion used on them... hmm sure would be interesting

  • Actually they discovered that if your lefty your most likely to walk into left circles due to your left hand side being over developed

  • imagine if we legalize marijuana.

  • I thought they were exaggerating when they drew the scribbles in circles. So this is how we get lost in forest when its really foggy...Wouldn't they realize they are going in circles? XDD

  • @chibixcandy Everyone realises this at some point, someone will always say "We're going around in circles!" and head off in a new direction, only to eventually return back to the same point. lol

  • OMG Facts -

  • @PsboyX360 me to.lol

  • imagine if we legalize marijuana.

  • Conclusion: Gay people aren't straight.

  • No one can just go straight. Ever.

  • NPR probably has expensive software ti produce such videos... But I really don't know.

  • This animation was amazing. I want a tutorial on that.

  • Thumbs up if you're here because of OMG-Facts

  • omg-facts brought me here :D

  • OMG-FACTS anyone?

  • so interesting:D

  • thats cool

  • so how do people sleepwalking walk?

  • i just keep watching it because of the amazing animation..................and of course because the scientist looks like jack black, if you like this animation you should check out jack daniels, number seven advert.

  • this explains all the homos in the world

  • The fact is perfect, but I really liked the animation. Thanks for the wonderful share.

  • seems it's like tom hanks voice.

  • A blind person would do the same thing, they both can't see. There is nothing different then a blindfolded person and a blind person. IMP

  • @X0XNighthawkX0X but they have walking sticks

  • @X0XNighthawkX0X they have a cane they can use as a reference or some sort of guiding tool

  • @X0XNighthawkX0X oops sorry responded to wrong person haha

  • @X0XNighthawkX0X Actually, blind people orient themselves differently than a seeing person does. They can tell where the sun is by temperature on parts of their bodies, they can tell spans and direction by sound. A blind person would ironically probably walk much straighter.

  • @X0XNighthawkX0X I'm still interested to see what would happen with someone blind from birth, since Mythbusters proved that a blind man could drive with directions while a blindfolded person could not. I'm not saying these two things are related or that the experiment would be any different but it is worth a try just in case.

  • What about blind peoples?

  • @thegamerz3 Why do you think they carry that pole and slap it on the ground in front of them? HERP DERP

  • @sorukai Because they need something to do?

  • Really cool animation, and love the telling voice :)

  • this looked really cool

  • That was awesome! give us more!

  • the animation was awesome!

  • this animation and style is amazing.

  • my theory is that the brain is trying to collect some data to know its enviroment. just the same way we do even if we're not blindfolded. lets say you suddenly wake up in a place you've never been to, what will you do? Stare straight ahead? No, you will start to look Arround to collect info about your enviroment. If you dont have eyes, you start to move Arround to collect info about your enviroment. and if you don't have legs, wel then you'll probably just roll Arround to move. :)

  • blind people cant walk in a straight line?

  • ah but the real question is what is a straight line?

  • The earth is rotating while they walk, so they with out knowing turn against rotation. Question. Does this work like a toilet? Maybe on the other side of the hemisphere they turn thee other direction. lol.. By the way Im sure you already knew this but Im full of shit.

  • Maybe because the Earth is moving around the Sun at about 67,000 miles per hour. That might have something to do with it.

  • I find it hard to believe the guy driving the car made that sharp of turns.

  • @davidpallen09 Yeah. It's one thing to walk, but another thing to hold onto a steering wheel and not notice that you're turning rather dramatically.

  • When you can't see anything, you're left to use your other senses. The human brain is too filled with self doubt to do this efficiently, hence why people second guess they're ability to go straight and over correct by turning.

  • Scientist dude is jack black

  • maybe it's evolutionary? If you were lost with no landmarks to speak of, it's probably less likely for you to die if you somehow ended up close to your point of origin, rather than in the middle of nowhere.

  • what happens if a blind person does the test?

  • @dynacker Thats what the stick is for XD so he know what is around to know the point to go to.

  • @dynacker Umm, nothing?

  • For most people one leg is slightly longer than the other one which could be an explanation.

  • @zBriGuy Doesn't quite account for the car, though

  • This is called the Coriolis Effect. It is a slight acceleration that is cause by the rotation of the earth on it's axis. It's so weak that we can't normally feel it day to day, but in instances where there are long distances and we have no visual cues to help us counteract it, it's effects are obvious.

  • Comment removed

  • @dragspeed213 Coriolis Effect does not effect a person walking or a car driving, it effects things that aren't in direct contact with the ground, such as projectiles and storm systems.

  • @hotch1776 Or the fluid in the inner ear that is responsible for our internal sense of balance and direction.

  • they were all gay.

  • people in the 20's just couldnt walk straight

  • go to radio lab podcast if you want more like this

  • STARBARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • KRULWICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
