Wow. This video definitely reminds me of this manga called Uzumaki. The whole town is like cursed with a spiral and after all the people are devoured, the curse of the spiral starts all over again. The people have to interwine themselves and everything. So yeah, it's so interesting to know that humans blindfolded can't walk straight. Lol, the curse of the spiral! HAHA! XD
I'm wondering why the first man asked the guy to even start this..was it a thoery he himself came up with? Or did he do it because that book or somekind of teacher he had told him that it's impossible or something..I think this theory is awesome, I had never known this before..but the end where it says that no-one can explain why makes me feel like this was kind of a waste of time..I want to understand why now!!
We did this experiment today in science and I noticed that at every 5th step you take, your non dominant foot takes a wide step to a side a little. Just my theory.
@marty1160 Thats a myth, water can go down a toilet or sink in any direction and is influenced by how it's introduced to the bowl, the earth's rotation has such a negligible influence it has no real effect.
If you were put in a maze and follow one side of a wall for the rest of the course you would eventually reach the finish line. Now if a human were to do that without a maze, they would be going in circles trying to search for that side of the maze or a reference point. IMHO
I thought they were exaggerating when they drew the scribbles in circles. So this is how we get lost in forest when its really foggy...Wouldn't they realize they are going in circles? XDD
@chibixcandy Everyone realises this at some point, someone will always say "We're going around in circles!" and head off in a new direction, only to eventually return back to the same point. lol
i just keep watching it because of the amazing animation..................and of course because the scientist looks like jack black, if you like this animation you should check out jack daniels, number seven advert.
@X0XNighthawkX0X Actually, blind people orient themselves differently than a seeing person does. They can tell where the sun is by temperature on parts of their bodies, they can tell spans and direction by sound. A blind person would ironically probably walk much straighter.
@X0XNighthawkX0X I'm still interested to see what would happen with someone blind from birth, since Mythbusters proved that a blind man could drive with directions while a blindfolded person could not. I'm not saying these two things are related or that the experiment would be any different but it is worth a try just in case.
my theory is that the brain is trying to collect some data to know its enviroment. just the same way we do even if we're not blindfolded. lets say you suddenly wake up in a place you've never been to, what will you do? Stare straight ahead? No, you will start to look Arround to collect info about your enviroment. If you dont have eyes, you start to move Arround to collect info about your enviroment. and if you don't have legs, wel then you'll probably just roll Arround to move. :)
The earth is rotating while they walk, so they with out knowing turn against rotation. Question. Does this work like a toilet? Maybe on the other side of the hemisphere they turn thee other direction. lol.. By the way Im sure you already knew this but Im full of shit.
When you can't see anything, you're left to use your other senses. The human brain is too filled with self doubt to do this efficiently, hence why people second guess they're ability to go straight and over correct by turning.
maybe it's evolutionary? If you were lost with no landmarks to speak of, it's probably less likely for you to die if you somehow ended up close to your point of origin, rather than in the middle of nowhere.
This is called the Coriolis Effect. It is a slight acceleration that is cause by the rotation of the earth on it's axis. It's so weak that we can't normally feel it day to day, but in instances where there are long distances and we have no visual cues to help us counteract it, it's effects are obvious.
@dragspeed213 Coriolis Effect does not effect a person walking or a car driving, it effects things that aren't in direct contact with the ground, such as projectiles and storm systems.
Swimming blindfolded? Not even once.

Longer strides on one side of your legs could cause the turn.

2 questions-
whose voice is this? (there are credits for 'correspondent' and 2 'actors', but which of them read?) (i'd assume correspondent').
and
does which way you go have anything to do with being left- or right-handed...?
(or brained? That would be interesting to know)

Testing a blind person might actually make a difference. People with sight may rely more on there eyes to help guide them, but blind people do not.

Hey is it the same in the North and the South Hemisphere?
Example clockwise in the Northern Hem.
and counter clockwise in the southern Hem?
Like how the water is opposite directions in toilets from
North and south hemispheres!?
