I'm not an expert either, but the point of aim is definitely not the same as the contact point. What you refer to as the "point of aim" is incorrect. In your particular shot, you want to aim to the right of the contact point, but your video says nothing about aiming. You only discuss where the contact point is. I hope your next video will be more helpful and accurate.
@kmxtornado This is like saying that the point of aim on a target isn't the point that you want to hit when you shoot at the target. There's no better way to explain how to aim.

Beginners may be better off vy visualizing a gost ball that is in contact with your point of aim. One can put an a ball where the ghost ball could be and needs only to aim at replacing that ball, just have someone remove that ball before shooting. Actually one needs to aim at the exact center of that ball, hence at the center of the ghost ball,,,
I appreciate the effort to remain simple in the explanation, but it's just incorrect. This is one of the problems in aiming.... That point if aimed at will miss, the way to determine the proper location is to set up the exact same shot until you just see it. Pool balls being round, the cue contacts the OB before the point is reached, resulting in hitting it too full. See the entry on cut shots in Ray Martin's 99 Critical Shots. (shot no. 1). No offense to this gentleman however, he is basic
@espresso747 I am not an expert player, but I am quite good at aiming (the only thing in pool I can say I really am good at) and I do exactly the mental process that Joe explained. If it is basic, I don't understand why. I find it correct
@sirguigui what he did was show how to find the point of aim...he didnt mention where to shoot so that the cue ball would contact the object ball at that point.
@2por2a4d - I do just that in my manual "Reflections on the Cut Shot", see my site "the cut shot dot com", I show you what part of the object ball to hit and what part of the cue ball to hit it with! If you have invested $hundreds in quality cues, you need to invest in your knowledge of the game also to get the most out of your cues!
I have been playing pool for a few months now, I don't know if I have improved, but I still seem to have problems pocketing balls, I seem to miss a lot. So do I basically just aim the tip of my cue to the where the line intersects the ball? How about making cut shots? And when using the ghost ball technique, does it just basically overcut a ball?
@whasmyname - There is an easier way to aim and make balls, see "the cut shot dot com" There is no Ghost Ball, Imaginary Lines, Devices, or gimmicks involved. Get my manual on Cut Shots and you'll start making a lot more of those balls that you are missing now!

the hard part about aiming is knowing where to shoot the cue ball to hit that point...that is the main thing you should cover.

@2por2a4d That's exactly what he did.
