  • Why is he singing on the carpet? Is he a muslim?

  • Please come to Denver and witness the great mountain hospitality. It will equal your music! I promise!

  • It was fantastic to see Glen honored at the CMA awards this past week!! He is still putting on a super show on tour! His light outshines all of today's so called "country artists"....be well Glen!

  • One of the all time greats!! Love him! Love this song! No one sings a Jimmy Webb song the way Glen does. Only a handful of entertainers in my lifetime last this long and perform so effortlessly.

  • What an extraordinary song...Jimmy Webb can express and evoke human emotion like no one else. And no one gives his songs a more beautiful voice than Glen Campbell. Webb's songs, Campbell's voice - a match made in heaven.

  • I saw him on 10-1-11 in Reno. Catch him before he is gone

  • All around entertainers are rare...he's got it all. Saw him in concert in June...a great experience. Thank you Glen.

  • PS: I want to add that what makes this performance so incredible is that Glen absolutely owns this song from start to finish. Just simply owns it. We will never see his like again. Like a fine wine, he only gets better with time. He's the best singer and guitarist of the past 75 years. He & Jimmy Webb seem to have been born to collaborate. No one else belts them out like Glen Campbell.

  • Sublime! Just the best performance ever by Glen Campbell. We are all so blessed to hear his musical gifts. I was lucky enough to get to see & hear him in Biloxi, MS this past July 2011. Flew cross-country for that show when I heard it was his Goodbye Tour. He was fabulous onstage, & I was lucky enough to meet him afterward. What a kind, down-to-earth man. I've been a huge fan of his singing & guitar-playing since age 10 when Glen was in his early 30's and hitting his stride. God Bless You Glen!!

  • Fabulous!

  • Of all his songs, this is my favorite. The original recording is awesome.

  • WOW! That's all I can say..Just takes my breath away..I'll be praying for you Glen.

  • I always loved Glen Campbell, and this had to be the most beautiful song he ever had.

I get so sad thinking of his illness now. In time he won't remember any of the words, or melodies to his songs. God bless him.

  • With all of the songs that he recorded, this one clearly stands alone as his best. The passion & emotion he puts into this performance is awe inspiring!

  • i love this song. Does anyone know where in can find it besides here?

  • @TheNmblanco I find a copy at Amazon.com:)

  • I used to sing this to my son at bedtime.....He is now a soldier in the United States Army, and has a beautiful little girl and has sung this song to her......Thank You Mr. Campbell

  • I just so like this song.

Joshuabrooks21 thanks for adding the lyrics

  • Another brilliant composition from Jimmy Webb

  • I am calling like the echo, of a passing train that cries, one last time before it fades into the distant hills and dies.......

  • I am calling like the echo, of a passing train that cries, One last time before it fades into the distant hills and dies, I am sending out a message, Like a ship on the sea, In distress where only you can send the lifeline out to me, And if you're still within the sound of my voice, Why won't you let me know? I just can't let you go, If it's wrong then I have no choice, But to love you until, I no longer have the will, If you're still within the sound of my voice....

  • If you're still within the sound of my voice, In the dead of night, Do you hear me call? Something's not quite, no one's there at all, Did you make a mistake? Was it in your head? Or, was it merely me talking, to your heart instead? And if you're still within the sound of my voice, over some radio, I just want you to know, that it always made me rejoice, Just to have you so near, There's a place for you here, If you're still within the sound of my voice.....

  • Where have you gone?, my darling one, Are you on your own? Are you having fun? Is there someone to hold, when you need it bad? Is it uncontrolled, like the love we had? Does a day go by, like a memory? Do you ever try to remember me? In an aurtomobile, or a crowded bar, well I hope you're alright, wherever you are And if you're still within the sound of my voice, Over some radio, I just want you to know, You were always my only choice, And wherever you go, That I still love you so...

  • Did you see that smile come over his face as he ended....he knew that he nailed it.

  • @ericedy - watched this 50 times but never noticed that part -- awesome. Yeah he knows he got it right.

  • Damn this song sounds better after a few shots of Absinthe.Glen Campbell get your a** over here in Australia and play a few gigs.

  • Thank you, Jimmy Webb. No one can sing this one like Glen Campbell!!

  • This song gives me hope for myself. There are times I find myself lost out there in the "Abyss of Life" after making unwise choices. The words here, remind me that even though I mess up, I am still able to ask for forgiveness and forgive myself, then move forward.

  • Glen Campbell singing Jimmy Webb's amazing songs blows my mind every time.

    A perfect marriage of artists.

  • Excellent quality sound and video....A pleasure

  • jimmy web brilliance kind of haunting to me top 20 of all songs anytime anywhere. Close your eyes let it echo...........................

  • It was a PBS special. You can order the DVD. It was a spectacular concert!!!

  • Ok,i got to admit after hearing this for the 3rd time,Glen sing is this song better than Linda Ronstadt,BUT only just.Anyway this live verison is better than the studio verison, even through i like them both.Cheers.

  • One of the greatest performers of our time. I'm 50 years old and am begining to feel as if all the greats are not getting their just rewards for all they brought to us...Thanks Glen Great Tune keep belting them out

  • freekin phenominal!!!!!!!

  • X L ENT!!!

  • I'm 53 years old & saw this show when it originally aired. I was a kid then, but Glen made me cry. Still does. He nailed this song. Look at his face at the end...he KNEW it.

  • It does not get any better than this !!!

  • I feel very fortunate that at 53 she's still within the sound of my voice. In fact, she lies sleeping right next to me at this very moment! Yes, I do remember them all. And I thank God for narrowly escaped disasters!

  • Thats is good, but not good as Linda Ronstadt how she sing it.

  • It's too bad this song was released in the mid-late 80's. If this released with his earlier music or possibly even today this would be a #1 hit. A lot of people like Glen & Cash got a bit lost in the days of synthesizers and meaningless songs.

  • faticehippo, interesting theory as to why this song never got the attention it should have. I find it bewildering -- one of Glen's most beautiful songs, imho. I strongly recommend anyone who has never heard the studio version of this piece check it out, post haste. A remarkable bit of music and vocals. Glen and Jimmy Webb are one potent duo!

  • Wow I haven't heard this in twenty years!!

  • The first time I heard this song I was transported back in time to that 'first love'. God Bless you, Glen.

  • I still love her, and always will!

Even though my head knows better, my heart can't help itself.

  • what a song!

  • If we were all honest with ourselves and others, we would have to admit we all think of this often. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 26 years now. (We are both 47/48 respectively) Although we have been together since I was 16, it would be a lie to say either of us never think about others in this light. We both know we made the right choices, but the romantic in each of will always haunt us. Human nature. I have been listening to this song for many years.

  • CAB

    . . . . .

  • Jimmy Webb writes the best songs!

  • I'm 63 years old. Married 30 years last month to a wonderful woman whom I love more and more each day. But just sometimes I will hear a song, taste or smell something and one or two of the other special women in my past life will leap back into my mind. When this happens I ask myself 'Is this wrong to think about them?' Still not sure but this song resonates with those occasional feelings. Maybe I'm just getting old!

  • I'm 16 and I know how you feel from ex girlfriends. It's not wrong, as long as you know you love the one your with. If you had feelings for someone, it's gotta be natural. I know I love the person I am with, and that if the choice ever arose to leave her for an ex, I wouldn't take it.

  • No, it's human nature. Be happy that you can still remember!

  • I might have the years mixed up but this song came out around the time "First Time Caller" from Juice Newton came out and I was a DJ in some run down Florida town. Those 2 songs were bright spot.

  • This song reminds me of my wife. In 1983 we went our separate ways and married other people. I always felt incomplete and thought of her often. In 2002, after very painful first marriages, we were reunited by the Grace of God. We married in March of 2003 to complete our love story. My sweet Sharina, I love you more each day!

  • Wow... wow wow, God bless you both. Whenever I hear something like this it makes me want to write songs again. What a restoration of inspiration for me. Songs DO touch people and provide real underlying mechanisms whether we realize it or not, moving us that much cloer to the real work at hand, love. Thanks for your post and sharing. Kevin

  • This song stopped my heart the first time I heard it fifteen years ago. I first bought it on cassette tape then cd. It reminds me of the love of my life. We separate 18 years ago after and 14 year relationship. He got married, after seven years, and all I got was older. "If it's wrong then I have no choice, but to love until I no longer have the will...."

  • It's on Glens'"Reunited" cd on the Raven label featuring all his Jimmy Webb songs from the last 30+ years. You should find it easily on Amazon and others.

  • Whre, can i get this song from?. It's hard as hell to find?.

  • Not sure if you are looking for Glen's version, but Linda Ronstadt does an excellent version of it on her album "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind."

  • hi.... you can find this song on glenns's album Light Years. Should be an easy ebay find :) good luck,, Kevin

  • Haunting song-one of my favorites. I think of so many people in my life that hope will always know I cared for them and I always wish them all the happiness the world will allow.

  • Will Jimmy Webb ever run out of gems like this? Classics like "Highwayman"?!?! He continues to amaze us with uncommon talent. I hope my sons pick up where he leaves off. He's a hard act to follow.

  • if you like jimmy webb, he make an excellent Christmas CD with art garfunkel/amy grant called

    "the animal's christmas"

  • i love this song...but...i like it better from the album rather than in concert...it just sounds better on the radio and album!

  • Once again, he has touched my soul, wrenched my heart, and brought bittersweet tears!

  • Amazing Jimmy Webb song! Glen is fantastic here...Linda Ronstant's version just as good or maybe better.

  • This is such a haunting beautiful song. And Jimmy Webb has so many of these songs that just haunt you with their emotional powerl

  • The studio version of this is absolutely haunting. What a strong love it conveys. I'm a strong guy but this song brings a tear to my eye. Makes me so happy to have the one I love by my side.

  • He is my all time favorite. His voice is beautiful. He is so talented as a musician as well. Love Glen!!!

  • Glen's singing is awesome, this is a beautiful song. Check out amazing grace, glen plays a mean bagpipe, such a talented man.

  • My all time Glen Campbell favorite! Moves me to tears every time. What an incredible talent. Have loved Glen & this song in particular for decades. Thanks!!

  • This goes out to my Angel. I miss you and need you in my Life.

  • Song writing genius. Linda Ronstadt's and this version are both excellent, such a powerful song, such emotion!

  • God this song makes me cry. But, only Glen can do it the best! Jimmy L. Webb = Songwriting God!

  • Thanks for posting. This was a hit song for him, one of my absolute favorite songs from the 1980s, and was sort of forgotten after that. Happy to see him still embracing it.

  • I heard this song for the very first time today (Linda Ronstadt's version) and thought, how could I have missed such an amazing song, by one of my favorite songwriters??? And this version by Glen Campbell is beautiful too -- such a fine singer, such a great musician. Very moving.

  • gets better the more you hear it!!!!!!!!!!!and he new he nailled it

  • I am calling like the echo of a passing train that cries one last time before it fades into the distant hills and dies...I am sending out a message like a ship out on the sea in distress but only you can send the lifeline out to me...... beautiful

  • This is a concert by a guy who can sing and

one hell of a musian, You picked ot a great

  • superb !!!!

  • truly sublime.

  • One of the greatest songs of any kind of music-Ever. Always glad to hear it.

  • This is a lovely song. :)

  • This record marked such a magic comeback hit for Glen and Jim. Pure magic...

  • Stellar song, this one. Found it while looking for another Glen tune - "I Have You" which is a simple and beautiful little love song. Anyone out there who can put it up here? Sure hope so. Ta

  • This song alway gives me chills...brilliantly written by Jimmy Webb and brilliantly performed by Glen Campbell. Linda Ronstadt's arrangement is just as haunting.

  • Wouldn't mind starting a web-thread about this song (especially the studio version). For anyone who's been there(sjplwc and Nymphalette's Mom sound like they have been there) the song will haunt you.

  • Stumbled on this while looking for the Linda Ronstandt version. This is great rendition of a less-known Jimmy Webb compositions. He reminds a little of Sinatra in how he styles it. I think the next time Glen Campbell rolls into NorCal I'll try to catch him.

  • @ElkGroveNews Awesome!

  • @ElkGroveNews Jimmy Webb is the best... Look for Jimmy Webb singing Elvis and me.... Glen is Great... His voice is as strong now as it was in the 60's...

    Great song....

  • @ElkGroveNews

Linda Ronstadt did a nice version of the song, but this to me is the definitive version.

  • Ahhhhhh- finally found this version. Brilliance.

  • One of my all time favourite songs. I also love Linda Ronstadt's version of it. Thanks for this!

  • My favorite Glenn Campbell song by far-- and that's a testament because he is such an amazing talent. His vocals always as haunting as the lyrics he conveys. Thanks for this one.

  • I've always loved Glen's music but this is, by far, my favorite song of his ever. Incredible talent!

  • I saw Glen in May of 2007 for the first time. I think his voice has more depth now than it has ever had. It was well worth the 13 hour drive to see him.

  • this is my mom's favorite song..she always cries when she hears it.....it makes me want to cry...beautiful song

  • Wouldn't mind starting a web-thread about this song (especially the studio version). For anyone who's been there(sjplwc and Nymphalette's Mom sound like they have been there) the song will haunt you.

  • A big statement, but I'm going to make it: one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I've ever heard. (Even more beautiful on the studio version). What a voice! What a song! I'm bewildered this never became one of Glen's biggest hits ever.

  • he is one of the best and this is a good song

    by a good singer

  • A real favorite of mine. Thanks for posting.

  • simply the best

  • Oh my once again Campbell and Webb ..what a collaboration of talent

  • I am calling like the echo of a passing train that cries

One last time before it fades into the distant hills

    And dies

    Lyrics by Jimmy Webb

  • He transposed it down to a lower key for this performance I think, but you're right; considering his life and his age, that was an incredible performance.

  • Through all the ups and downs this guy has been through it's amazing how little his talent has diminished. It's a testament to the depth of his abilties.
