  • omg this song is so perfect on so many levels.

  • 2 hours!?! Now, you are just exaggerating! Or, very young, perhaps?

  • охуительно

  • the end...should never end....its haunting...like he could play that jam forever and id never want it to stop

  • No comment about the teenage Neal Schon? Notice him playing the G and Am chords like the guy in Los Lonely Boys on Heaven.

  • yes

  • My all time favourite Santana track. Perfect for making love to but far too short. Like good lovemaking it should go on for hours. Hitting the repeat button whilst in the throws of passion is a little awkward, but still worth it ;)

  • @michelleybach

    lawl

  • Best live version I've heard so far. Good old Beat Club.

  • greg rolie

  • i see this just about EVERYDAY! great vibes!

    cortez n dallas texas

  • soy peruana, para mi santana es lo mejor que ha parido Mexico...me encanta.

  • Lucky bastard. That's probably a real-deal '59 Les Paul he's playing there (in the exact color I want too). He's probably still got the thing. Lucky bastard.

Well, at least I can sit here and smoke my holy weed and PRETEND I own a guitar that sounds that good.

  • loving the giant sunflower!

  • this is like wow i can feel the musik ...

  • In Carlos own words he stated that he had to really push the band to record this song because they were reluctant to do it. They said that song was not Santana.

What is Santana suppose to sound like? It seems even in this video while playing this song there was still some tension going on.

  • @umouniversal the song's just like drug. Probably throws us onto a middle of nowhere.

  • Ok Thank You!!!

  • @umouniversial 4 hours

  • @umouniversial I think 2 hours is not long enough ;)

  • Me intriga el baterista, quién será, tocará todavía?

es el que hace el sólo en woodstock

  • santana was always great but i enjoy watching him play now more..the easy and comfort in his playing is astounding ....he makes it look so easy....

  • God I love this song. It's like each note cut's into your soul.

  • the wonder years, for sure.

  • classic. was the percussion being begged to improv?

  • I or should i say my partner and I have love santana, all the way, that I played his music at his funeral cause that is what he wanted, and it was music so great....

  • LA MUSICA QUE DIOS ESCUCHA

  • awesome video man, but it sounds like the ending was cut off?

  • @Zeppelin018 .... I concur...you may want to upload a better rendition for all of us....if you have the technical capabilities....thanks for pointing it out...just make sure...dear friend...when you point out a problem...be ready to provide a solution as well.... it's easy to discern a flaw but it takes greater mental prowess to construct a workable solution...makes sense?... cheers :)

  • I am sure Neil does not have his guitar turned up. I see him strumming on many videos with Santana but it looks like he is asked just to be there and look good. I am a Santana fan BTW I just wondered if the rumors were true about him having a big ego. The only time I ever saw Neil play lead has been on Black Magic Woman.

  • He plays some lead on song of the wind. You can hear Neil's guitar at 1:14 on this video.

  • This is not

Song of the Wind. so pointing out 1.14 is pointless. Gezus!!!!!!

  • You can really hear him play at 2:06 to.

  • Are you some kind of joker? @ 2:06 he is strumming. I know the sound Carlos makes with his guitar and I know Neils sound too. I also know other lead guitarist that have a 2nd guitarist but never let them play just strum. Mark Knopfler comes to mind. His brother was in the same band but Mark would do all the lead and backing guitar on the albums because they had to be done his way. BTW you can tell by the body language them 2 were not happy 2gether.

  • Mentioning "Song Of The Wind" validates Neil's musical contributions additional to Black Magic Woman. I wrote 1.14 "on this video", so it was certainly relevant. If your ears are not developed enough to hear him at 1.14, you should listen to 2.06 where Neil's strumming is absolutely clear. Now mentioning Mark Knopler is not really relevant. Perhaps, Neil was unhappy about something personal, how do you know anything for sure ? This conversation is evidence that video's have ruined music.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode Neal said in an interview that he had a big ego in his early career. I don't think he did as of Journeys high point (1981) and since then. If that helps you?

  • @Newbell2 I recently saw a video of Neal talking about his early career with Santana. It appears he was a very talented young guitarist. Those were the days when people used to rate guitarists and I think he wanted to stand out on his own and be rated at the top with the likes of Jimmy Paige. he was not to keen on vocals I note.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode no he wasnt a big singer he did a few songs for journey and of course in his solo records too! I wish he did sing more though he has a good voice but he is an extremely underrated guitarist!

  • @Newbell2 He is underrated because he is not a show man. All the high rated guitarists tend to be showmen. There thousands of underrated guitarist that are very good at playing music but don't put on an act. I used to play guitar many years ago and never felt the need to pull faces or make crazy weird stances when I was soloing. A good example of a rated showman but no so good guitarist is Chuck Berry and is duck walk.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode That is very true but there are some showmen that don't get credit either.

  • @Newbell2 That is probable because they are not unique or their style has already been copied by someone who is already in the limelight. After Jimmy Hendrix died they were many guitarists that mimicked him very well. But they fizzled out because they were not mainstream and people tend to get tired of seeing the same thing over and over. You only got to look @ the talent shows were many musicians belt their hearts out with their favorite song only to hear the judges say they seen it all before.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode what about mick mars who did he copy from? (not saying it rudley i'm just wandering)

  • @Newbell2 Never heard of him. But I have to admit @ my age I have lost interest narcissistic musicians. I enjoyed the punk rebellion in the 70's. But I learnt that every group member is just as important. I have out lived most of my teenage heroes because I guess I did not try to be like them

  • @Newbell2 Well the fret tapping is was not new or as good as Eddy Van Halen. Eddy took tapping to the limit. You also have to remember that a lot of the popular showmen had wide appeal. The image Motley Crew gave and many of the 70's rock guitarist was they played rock music to white audiences. Most black people stopped going to rock gigs after the stabbing of a black man @ a Stones concert. The dark clothing and demonic sounding lyrics also put many people of heavy rock.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode Jimi Hendrix couldn't read sheet music.

  • @ox092 And what is your point?. I have never seen any modern groups read sheet music on stage.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode I mean in the studio when they first write the song. I read somewhere that jimmy hendrix and Jimmy page couldn't read sheet music.

  • @ox092 Well if you are thinking of learning how to play the guitar all you need to know is how to tune it and the relationship of all the notes on the fret. I learnt to play that way but later when on to reading fret lay out for making cords and scales. Mind you all blues musicians have to know their scales. I knew a blind guy once who could play guitar better then anyone I knew. I find reading music note for note and playing impossible.

  • @MicrosoftsourceCode Thats true. Reading music and playing just takes time and practice. I play trumpet myself just used to seeing things visually like the scales.

  • @ox092 Yeah! reading music nowadays is kind of nerdy. Can you just imagine any group live in stage with loads of sheet music LOL

  • It sounds so beautiful and, yet sad when you hear it. Its the same way when I hear "Europa".

  • Ahh, the days when Santana was worth a shit.

  • @2taintme

I think Santana's first three albums were the best. After that, it wasn't the same.

  • I agree 100%. He only degrades himself with that pop mess he has latched onto of recent.

  • @jgstargazer ... I concur...however...as you know dear friend....all things are transitory.....the only constant in the universe is 'change'...so quite naturally...we can only expect that changes will occur with the style of the artist..... yes? ...all in all...like everyone else...i am truly grateful to have Santana alive and enriching our lives with his profound and electrifying music....he is truly an Avatar....(a god who assumes human form to participate in creation) :)

  • This is still the sexiest sound imaginable...

  • comeback to the future......it was early 70s....thanks for up.....unforgettable santana

  • I agree also, the future day's have gone past.

  • Subanpujen apretujenesnegernacht, und wessesmaierminen Gross Santana!!! alle filles gutten morgen saluten!!!. :-)

  • This song is fucking amazing when I hear it. I want to learn how to play this song.

  • This is the reason why Santana is great. Music with soul.

  • Best driving song. going down the road with this song.

  • who is neal? answer please

  • Neil Schon - later with Journey

  • Magnifient!!! This is my favourite song. THanks for posting:)

    Grandma mary

  • Awesome!!! Thanks for posting:)

    Grandma Mary

  • look How young Neil is about 17 then

  • love the hairstyle :D

  • The backdrop on the back is pretty cool w/ Abraxas cover

  • That's a 16 year old Neal Schon on rythm guitar. How many guys that age get a gig like this?

  • hes a bastard. hes the first step to the band breaking up which grew into the heated relationship between greg rolie and carlos. everyone got pissed, started fighting. greg even tried to drown carlos. and then greg and neal helped make the band Journey. shrieve and areas stayed with santana for a little while. i dont know what happened to david brown or michael carabellas or coke escovido.

  • You're an idiot. Who says band members are obligated to stay with each other? Santana, Rolie & Schon have played with each other many times over the years. If it was as acrimonius as your litte teenybopper POV thinks, then that would never have happened. Rolie & Schon never wanted to get locked into a niche playing Latin Jazz/Rock fusion. They had mainstream aspirations & wanted to prove they could succeed in that venue which they did. As The Bard once said, STAND UP FOR BASTARDS!

  • chables1. stfu you stupid fuck

  • bondurango is right, I also heard that Greg and Neal wanted to rock more and Carlos was going through the phase that McLaughlin got him into which Greg and Neal didn't really want. Michael stayed with Carlos and even changed his name just like Carlos and Mclaughling did.

Hey to each its own, people want to change and grow or as Carlos puts it...transcense ???

  • chables1 -

I think everyone here is in agreement that you're an ignorant dip shit. Neal had already walked into a band that was fragmenting. There was no "heated relationship" between Rolie and Carlos, it was just the quick rise to fame + drugs that started the shit to pile up.

David Brown got too heavy into drugs (later dying due to it) and Carabello and Carlos DID have an acrimonious relationship. They WERE in agreement however that no one liked Escovedo -- except Carlos.

  • @oa Hey!

Where do you get that kinda inside info about the band? :P

Can you give me a link ?

  • Being a huge fan of the Santana band lineup circa 1969-74, it's just from a lot of stuff I've read on them through the years...personal interviews, articles and also from a couple of books on Carlos that have been published recently.

The main reason for the dislike of Escovedo was mainly due to their loyalty to Chepito, who was gravely ill at one point but Carlos wanted to keep touring without him. That created friction with the rest of the band.

  • @oa Yeah im also a big fan of santana band linup at 1969-74 ! I just goddamn love that time. Its like everything was perfect. I so wish i could go back to that time.

  • Not many, and by the way, this was the best line up of Santana and.. is that Coke Escovedo playing percussion with Chepito and Mike Carabello ?

  • If you're talking about the guy playing maracas, to the best of my knowledge, that is Coke Escovedo.

  • Thanks, It looked like him but I wasn't sure.

  • excelente musica de santana., es de mi epoca tengo recuerdos agradables de enonces. gracias.

  • el mejor alumno del brujo......XAVIER......

  • este es el mejor de todos los samba pa ti

  • wow, great performance.... classic

  • Where can I get this whole concert? I think this was 1971. Is it?

  • Marshall that wasnt a concert. It just from some German Tv show appearance they were on. The show is called the Beat Club.

  • so good, i think better if the lead use jazz guitar

  • i just talked shit about his youner brother jorge. how lame is that guy. but this shit right here is premium. this i when the dude was really cool. whole new genre by this dude. thanks for being cool back then carlos

  • Would you believe that this young kid on second lead is Neal Schon of "Journey"?

  • i think so, yes.

  • THank you

    MY very favorite tune

  • God I love Gregg's Hammond Organ, nice

  • A pure nugget of musical history. Gracias.

  • Poor Neal...no wonder he left..he looks lost.

  • Before Carlos did the Supernatural album things concerts were always better. Come back to southern California Carlos and prove us wrong with a jamming set.

  • yeah, don't let commercial success kill your soul!

  • I love it when I run into these rare videos, thank you for sharing,a true classic!
