  • well I mean If you really want them to Canada We can send to Canada But Making a Off Shore Artificial reef out of em isn't a bad idea either

  • Emagine like a railfan dive fest diveing to an off shore P42 reef!!! LOL!!!!

  • I can remember where along the Atlantic Coast but they did build an Artificial reef out of old NYC Subway Cars I believe they were known as Red Bird Cars I saw this in Trains Magazine back in the late 90s and I also saw something about it in National Geographic around the same time I will see if I can find you a link and I will post it.

  • I had no idea this even happened with those NYC Subway cars.

  • I had no idea this even happened with the NYC Subway cars.

  • Yeah when I heard about it It did not really interest me at the time but now it is kinda cool cause not only are they reefs but they kinda of a Human time capsule, from what i understand you can dive on them but they were initially created to reform the reefs that were destroyed back in the 1700s-1800s by the big sailing ships that dragged their anchors unknowingly destroying the reef. It now provides a place for native fish to repopulate areas they once called home.

  • Interesting.

  • The only issue with doing this with the p-42s is the fact you would have to get rid of all the diesel residue or completely remove the tanks but by removing them they could probably be used as spare parts. I know the Subway cars were completely gutted of all electrical components, seats and the glass to better prepare them for the sea bottom. one day when I take up living on the coast maybe I will learn to SCUBA dive and go take pics and post em.

  • There are huge ships in Pearl Harbor (the Ship Arizona) that were sunk during World War 2 and they still leak oil, fuel, etc to this day and it has not done anything to Pearl Harbor, all the fish are still there, LOL.

You would basically have to gut the P-42 in order to make it into a reef.

  • Dang this vid got a lot of comments!!! LOL!!!!

  • I wonder if some ho bo guy is hitching a ride on the train illegally. In one of your vids I sware I saw a person hanging out of the back door of the engine (vid where you were paceing the train) and then in this vid I see the back door on the second engine wide open

Also its very hard core seeing the crescent and your red car in HD.

Dang you got lots of horn action in this vid.

  • Ha Ha! That's funny about the hobo! Yea Big Moe on the horn!

  • LOL!!!

    Nice! Mighty moe! LOL!

  • He rules the Crescent route! Too bad I can't go out and see them like I used to anymore!

  • You have a whole new line to railfan now.

  • Sweeet!

Also, I gladly that you got new camera with HD!!!

  • Thanks! It's got issues with the volume in the videos...it's wayyyy to loud for some reason...

  • No problem at all, bro!

    Oh, I see. That's cool!

Keep more come new videos, Gene!

  • This is exactly why Amtrak runs two P42s on these trains, although breakdowns are rare.

  • For real...although I've seen footage of them with 3 P-42's being towed by a NS GP38-2! It's in my favorite videos on my channel...

  • That's possible. The Empire Builder tends to run with 3, not because of the possibility of breaking down, but because of the terrain they have to cross. If 1 P42 breaks down, they could be in trouble.

  • Too bad they had taken the NS unit off-- the Crescent with NS pulling would have been a 'dramatic' way for some of your last regular videos here in Austell...!!

  • Yes I was hoping to see the NS unit leading!

  • I saw a hand full of vids on youtube where the crescent was lead by an NS engine.

  • Same here!

  • Only 42 mph I thought they moved through there a lot quicker than that. Anyway good vid 5 *****

  • My friend Moe said they have to slow down when entering the Atlanta district...I've seen some freights really fly through here before...

  • Yeah after watching it again it looks like that switch going from Single track to Double track could be a 40 MPH switch I know on the BNSF we have 25 MPH, 30 MPH, 40 MPH, and 60 MPH the latter is know as a high speed switch with movable point frogs, theses are ratings the FRA/AAR and the manufacture of the components determine is the safe operating speed through the switch. These ratings are given on the basis of the angle and superelevation CONT"

  • It 'could be' a 60 but you're probably right saying it's a 40 , I've seen some freights really FLY thorugh here heading East and West...

  • Comment CONT"------ of a particular location, and the speeds are for diverging movements only both facing point or trailing point movements apply to this rule.

  • Very nice. great job using the zoom. Keep it up

  • Good stuff man. Sounds like your mic is a little "hot" though.

  • Yea it is, it's a new camera and I just worked on making a light muffler for the sound level...

Sounds good far away, when they get close it's SUPER loud!...

  • 50 always has problems good video though

  • Thanks Bro!

  • Great video Gene 5*****

  • Thanks Ken!

  • i walked to the track to see him tonight... no wonder i didnt see it. i heard him on radio at about 10 pm

  • awesome vid Gene, what happen to enginne 50? and you said a NS einginne was leading???

  • They had a NS engine leading until Meridian,MS then they swapped the P-42's around so 144 could lead...

  • awesome as always..why was the back door open?

  • Thanks! Not sure I know that engine was having problems...

  • Very nice man I hate I had to work and hate they were late, but very nice vid with the cool crew. I love the Hd. I'll get the cool crew tomorrow and Sat.

  • Yea neither of us would have seen the NS engine leading, Moe said they swapped the 2 P-42's in Meridian when they got on board...

  • Oh ok cool, I hate they were very delayed. I remember we rode AMTK 19 to N.O. a year ago a Ns pulled us, worse ride ever.

  • This one was really late. My scanner didn't pick it up in Lula until about 11:00 PM.

  • Lula,Ga? It's just now 10:56PM here in Marietta...maybe 10PM?

  • Maybe. I don't know.

  • thats a problem

  • What's that?

  • how late it was

  • Yea engine troubles, I've seen them later than this before but it was due to them hitting someone and a fatality involved...

  • that sucks.. is the train locomotive hurt to much to be used again? or is it just badly dented?

  • They didn't hit anything today, mechanical problems with #50...

  • oh then when did they hit someone

  • I sent you the video...

  • According to my engineer friend P42's and GE's break down and catch fire frequently, they are basically pieces of junk.

  • YES Amtrak needs to use that 80 billion transportation/rail funding Obama is giving them to buy some new EMD units!!!

  • Its not necessarily the fault of GE Transportation they just built a piece of sh*t when it came to the P42, I believe both EMD and GE make good power I like the quietness of the the ES44ACs and the Power of SD70MAC and Replacement SD70ACes but I think Amtrack Should spend the time with both makers and come up with a new locomotive that is both internally and Cosmetically more stout but still aerodynamic (Think F-22 Raptor) to replace the crappy P 42s altogether .

  • Exactly!

  • Oops I misspelled Amtrak sorry. oh and for what to do with those P42s after replacement well first off they should take like 10 of em and donate them to museums of transportation around the country then the look for short line passenger operators both domestic(tourist) and foreign line buyers to take the em cause of the fact that they are 4 axled they can negotiate tighter curves also in this capacity they would not create the delay on the main line, or after donating 10 of em scrap the rest.

  • I bet VIA rail in Canada would buy a lot of them since Via rail uses P42's.

  • I meant put em where they will not delay anything of importance. Like oversees or as backup power for roads like the Grand Canyon Line they are light weight and 4 axle so they can pretty much fit in anywhere. This has got be the 21rst century version of the late ALCO's diesel junk. Did i mention GE supplied ALCO

  • ok.

  • well I mean If you really want them to Canada We can send to Canada But Making a Off Shore Artificial reef out of em isn't a bad idea either.
