@Deoxysdog Well, now, there are cards that are really strong that need Normal Monsters for its Summon - case in point, the Xyz Monster, Thunder End Dragon. Uses 2 level 8 Normal Monsters. Blue-Eyes fits the bill. With Resonance Device, Alexandrite Dragon can fit the bill.

Blue-Eyes + Alexandrite Dragon + Resonance Device = Thunder End Dragon

@Deoxysdog Mmm I have to disagree with you on that notion. With all the support either of those cards have, they can be decent. You don't have to tribute to get out blue eyes (future fusion combos, red eyes darkness metal.) Dark Magician can also be brought out relatively easily with Sage's Stone, Ancient Rules, and Skilled Dark Magician possibly. By no means are they YCS level decks, but they aren't entirely bad.

@roxasxdarknessx And all of those combos that you mention make you lose card advantage, or are too difficult/restricting to summon. Ancient Rules is an instant -1 in card advantage. Even in 2005, nobody was running Normal Monsters any more. The only reason BEWD or Dark Magician were ever considered "good" was because the tv show characters could summon them in ridiculous circumstances.

@Deoxysdog Have you not seen the power of rescue rabbit, its 100 bucks BECAUSE it summons 2 normal monsters. Instant Utopia on the field, plus thins out the deck already. Normal monsters that are new have ridiculous attack like Alexandrite dragon. They are just beating sticks. Any old normal monsters are worthless, unless you run a deck that is anti-effect.

With the advent of Synchro, and Xyz, we now have new methods of consistency for cards which might not have been so in the past. Also there are still exodia builds my friend. Look up "Exodia OTK" on youtube, and check out what people have done with him.
