I remember when this was on TV in Oz back in the day. This was not done in the spirit of pisstaking against Archbishop Tutu. This was just funny and definitely not meant as a slight. More like it was just enjoying Tutu's exuberance, which we all very much admired and enjoyed back then, as now.

It's comedy, it doesn't mean they have anything against him. I remember this from when it was first on back in the 90's. Obviously things have gotten a little more PC these days, but the guys on this show never went out of their way to be malicious. And Psax...this video isn't suggesting that black people are funny because they are black, you've missed the point completely in your hustle up onto the soapbox.

What many people here don't seem to realise is that this sketch is a direct response to the many Christian Television advertisements that were on the TV at the time where Archbishop Tutu was shrieking about "not a black man and a black woman, not a white man and a white woman" or infamously "Up, Up, UP! AND OUT! And God says YES". This sketch is parodying those specific advertisements rather than the man himself, and as someone who remembers those ads vividly, they do this very successfully :).

Alright, so when people make jokes about Mother Theresa, it's usually suggesting something risque or absurd about her, or comparing someone to her in an amusing way. But why make fun of a very good person like Tutu just for being who he is? Oh, I guess in this case, it's because black people are funny because they're black. Agreed Bob. I have showed this to South Africans, black and white...and they all found it funny. Archbishop Tutu has a great sense of humour to go along with it. He is the patron of National Braai Day in South Africa.
