There is a slight problem with Sagan's idea: The people don't eat the crabs, and similar patterns exist throughout the world, including in the fossil record. The face-like shapes serve as excellent muscle-anchor points.
I'm not suggesting anything mystical, I'm just saying that Sagan might not be right here. I love the story, but it might not be true.

1) The crab can be eaten. You can eat scorpions as well, they taste a bit like crab ironically.
2) It doesn't just live near heiki, it's just in that place they are more common, probably due to the law of that place to through back any crabs that look like faces, while in others areas it would of just creaped some people out to through them back.

@LygonFib The top predator in the crab's environment is the Japanese fisherman, not you. So it's what they do that matters in the natural selection of Heike crab phenotypes. If thousands of fishermen are tossing samurai-faced crabs back in the ocean, one person's taste for Heike crabs is incidental. The only way to counter this evolution is to eat a majority of the crabs with the most convincing samurai faces before they can reproduce, thus eliminating that particular survival advantage.

You should take this clip and post it as a video response to the featured video "Creation Science 101" by Roy Zimmerman. There are so many people commenting on that video that don't understand the undeniable simplicity of evolution. Maybe this would help them understand.

1) this crab is not for eat. so it is too small. smaller then finger.
