the chasing madoff movie is nowhere to be found ! does anybody find this a little weird , plenty of trailers and plenty of bad reviews , strange im thinking
Very good message. When you get down to it what he says is true. You have to applaud him.
But on another note, even the weakessed investors know to spread your investments across a number of products and that you have to be prepared to lose what you put in.
This is a fantastic video, I have known Matt for some 20-25 years - this shows why he is so, so very good at what he does - teaches us all how to gain or get a good life perspective. Thanks Matt
Jews is an unnecessary addition. Also how did Hank Greenberg steal money? The Fed did a great job in the crisis and after a little more than 4 quarters we're already back to economic growth.
Alarm bells should have rung in your head when you thought "What could be safer?" but couldn't think "This is the safest".
It's easy to ask a question without necessary evidence but harder to make a concrete statement. Always try to make the concrete statement and you'll make sound investments.
What a great role-model for how to live one's life! Imagine losing your entire retirement account! But keeping your spirit and self intact. Great job Matt!
Thanks Matt for continuing to be a source of motivation. I was re-reading your book "Managing to Have Fun" which I bought in 1997 (!) and wondered what you were up to these days. A few Google strokes and well, here you are on YouTube. The world has changed a lot since '97, but your winning spirit has not. Bravo!
Thank you Matt for sharing what is truly important. You had the bitterest of pills to swallow and yet have found the inspiration to articulate some truth out of it. Kudos!
But the question which lays on my mind is why do you invest EVERYTHING your life savings in the stock market? These are smart people that did this. Why not put 1/2 in and save 1/2 in the bank.
I was taught to invest only what you can afford to lose. It was obvious that folks that invested everything, could afford to lose everything.
I'm glad that he realizes that money is not the root of evil, the love of it is.
I don't see how it was obvious to you that they could afford to lose everything. People felt comfortable investing with a person who had the best credentials & recommendations from the SEC. Tragically, we all found out too late that all this meant nothing. We now face a gov't that does not want to honor the existing laws that protect investors, and a public that does not think this could happen to them. When their bank fails & the FDIC says "sorry" we decided not to pay you, Too late for all.
Paralleling Matt's experience, my wife and I had planned & paid for a year in advance a trip to Antarctica, leaving NY on 12/18/08. Matt was "stuck" there; but, how could we possibly go and have a good time? We could stay home and forfeit another $20,000, also knowing we may not ever have another vacation like this again. We chose to live! As Matt said, we could not at this point get Madoff out of our minds 24/7, nor could we tell anybody with us. It was not their problem & was their vacation.
How bitterly ironic it was that our entire lives we lived modestly, when vacationing taking modest accommodations, but on this trip we were in the largest, most expensive cabin, but no longer had the money to afford it! Madoff on our minds 24/7 and being kept awake toss around in the Drake Passage. We were like prisoners. 2 months later on Dr. Phil, he echoed Matt when he told me "The only thing worse than this guy getting your money, would be this guy getting your life." Matt had it right.
It takes a special person to laugh in the face of adversity. Matt: You truly made lemons into lemonade with this video. Challlenges stretch us to achieve new levels. You have done so. KUDOS! A+++! You get a Gold Star!
Matt, your inspiring message, after Madoff "made off" with your money but not your true wealth, is a testament to the resilence of the human spirit. Thank you, and thanks to Jayne Wenger for sending it to me.

This talk is completely beyond my understanding.
I don't even know what 65 billion dollars mean. It's just too much for me to imagine what that is. How do you spend that?
And secondly, I have no life savings that I could lose.

Rather predicable story, told and heard hundreds of times. I don't really see what's so sensational abou this.
