Thanks, Vid....My mamere (grandmother) made these for me when I was little. I knew it wasn't too complicated and it was such a thrill to see a doll with such a beautiful dress come from a holllyhock.. I will now be able to hand it down....
Thank you! My grandma used to make these with my sister and I. She has terminal cancer. Wanted so badly for her to make these with my girls. She was having a hard time remembering how to make them. My girls will get a chance to make them now.
That was great. Whenever my daughter and I see a hollyhock stalk we steal a couple flowers and buds and make hollyhock dolls. We remove the green part from the bud though -- then the stem from the flower part can be inserted into one of the holes of the white part of the bud. You'll know what I mean when you peel the green sepal away.
Wow that was a heck of a lot more cuter than what we did as kids... Gathered moose poo, pretended we had a grocery store and sold the moose poo as eggs. Luckily I don't remember what we used for milk.
That reminds me of when I was a kid in Coconut Grove and people would weave palm fronds into things and sell them. I bought a bird once, although the hats were the most popular.
There is an Italian saying that says a messy house invites company. It scares the crap outta me if someone would come over with the house was a mess... BUT.... cleaning is not my fav thing to do.. BLAH
That is so neat! They look like little ballerinas.:) Reminds me of my grandma. She had a wild rosebush (roses were tiny) that grew on the side of her garage. My sister and I would pull off the tiny petals, lick them, and stick them to our nails and it looked like we had long pink finger nails. I love hollyhocks and all their pretty colors.

this reminds me of the times when my mom told me that her mom used to make dolls out of the string like things you find in corn.

Aside from hating all the stupid housework I currently have to do, I'm good.
That anakin character keeps sending me video clips of himself being totally foul mouthed though. That ginger is whack, yo!

I can see it. They still looks like a body snatcher pod in drag. I was waiting to see the bud open and go after one of your fingers.
Excellent camera work Cam man. :)

Your hollyhocks are beautiful! When you were a kid did you come up with the idea for the dolls, or did someone show you? It is really cute.
