I was at this game behind Kipper / Joseph. Down 3-0, Curtis Joseph had to come and then this hit completely awoke not only the fans but the Flames as well. Flames actually got a power play on the play too and scored on the PP if I recall right and was the turning point of the game. Flames went on to win 4-3 in what was easily one of the best hockey games I have ever seen. The standing ovation and chanting Cujo at the end of the game was amazing.
That was textbook, awesome clean hit, and flames fans aren't terrible, this is playoff hockey at its finest. They're just cheering because Sarich just woke up the rest of his team and they come back with 4 unanswered goals. Two tough Saskatchewan boys showing how tough they are, Sarich for giving the hit and Marleau for taking it like a man and not just laying their trying to draw a penalty like too many cowards do.
@alldayproductions they are extremely quiet, and their goal celebrations are lowsy. ive been to 4 flames games, one of them being in the playoffs. terrible fans. you want fans? go to montreal.

@AlexSpiersTV please do not compare to the sattledome to the bell centre. every comemtator will tell you that the bell centre is the best place to watch a hockey game. having fun in last place?
@alexiofilms is alexspiers an oilers fan? Flames haven't been in last place at all this year, sure we were 14th in the west but that still had us in what, 24th in the league LOL.
I hate it when Marleau's teammate hits him in the head after he hits him. like it was a dirty hit or something. That was a great hit! Fucking leveled!
Marleau is a great player. But, I swear to god, he looks just like my former boss who fired me. So, I can't help but take a weird pleasure from watching this.
why not? he is one of the league leading goal scorers, one of the fastest players in the game, can play on any line and be a solid contributor, and he can take insane hits like this one and get right back up, he is definitely a trooper and deserves a spot on team Canada.
to all the sharks fans yes as of now they are better team but both flames and sharks coke in the playoffs but for anyone who thinks marleu is better is cause he is a forward this guy is so overatted and cant lead a team cory sarich is better for leadership and he is decent offensivly but owns defensivly he could be as good as regher sometimes
@MrLeafs99 his elbow is in his face because it comes up AFTER the hit, not before, as he's falling back. Don't worry though, we don't expect a Leafs fan to get hockey...
they dont suck, they may not do real well in the playoffs but that doesnt mean they suck, they still have been consistently one of the best in the league and the Ducks are better than an 8th seed, they really improved.
No offense to the Flames because they are a good team, but this was pretty much your proud moment throughout the whole series? Wow thats sad. All you can cheer for is a hit, and it wasnt even a clean one. The Sharks went on to win the series. Again, wow. Although I gotta say, the Flames look better this year, I hope they get some better results in the playoffs.
Why do you feel this was an elbow? In order to call an elbowing penalty the hitter must raise or swing his elbow in order to hit the head. no doubt his elbow hit the head but the clear fact is that he had his arm down against his body. Marleau had his head down low and was in a vulnerable position. Any knowledgeable hockey fan knows that was a clean hit. If it was dirty the sharks would have protested and a suspension handed to him. get over it. he got owned!!!
thats because Marleau was down lower, so Sarich's elbow was lower too. And the reason why the refs didnt call it was because Mike Keenan complained to the league that the refs supposedly called too many unfair penalties to them in Game 2 and wanted it to supposedly less biased. No Marleau shouldnt have had is head down, but Srich didnt need to go all out either. And I dont see how Marleau got owned if he got right back up after it. The Flames got owned in Game 7.
i agree with 99kokanee..there bench would have gone nuts and went insane..they didnt..because it was a clean hit...and the refs would have called it bud...clean hit..marleau's years are limited by the way...
becuase hes nothing like hes used to be...38 goals yes..that incredible..but just wait..hesa gonna fall apart next year or in a few..and he wont be anything like he used to be..i dont mean his eyars in the nhl are limited..i mean his glory years..his "prime" is limited..maybe only this season or maybe a few more years..but his prime isnt gonna last
well that kinda applies for every player in the NHL, everyone will get past their primes at some point. But there are also some players that seem ageless like Nicklas Lidstrom who are still good as new so you never know what will happen. But I think the changes made for the Sharks especially with coaching rejuvenated him, before he did not get along well at all with Ron Wilson, he has a much better relationship with McLellan, plus playing with Thornton helps too.
have you ever played hockey competitively? If a player has his head down you finish your check plain and simple. This is a rough sport and hitting is a big part of the game. Look at this particular game. This hit changed the game. If a player lets up on a check he usually gets benched. There is a reason there are no women in the league. To say he didn't have to go all out is retarded. thats how the game is played. When you go for a check you keep your arms down. continued...
yeah Ive played competitively, Ive been doing it for 10 years. This was an elbow dude. I have a lot of friends with a good hockey knowledge who think this is an elbow. It may be hard to tell because the camera angle wasnt so good, but he stuck his elbow out, and Mike Keenan has always been an idiot, he wouldnt bench his players for that, had encourage it more. Phaneuf boarded Marleau earlier too. This may have changed the game for the Flames, dont forget tho that SJ still won the series.
Of course Keenan would encourage this sort of hit. IT WAS CLEAN. Any coach out there would encourage this type of hit. This was a text book hit plain and simple. What is your opinion on the hit by stevens on kariya in the finals a few years back. That was a worse hit and no one questioned its legality. The only fact was he got caught with his head down in a vulnerable position. Hockey is a rough violent sport. These things make hockey great to watch...
The Stevens hit wasnt really a clean hit either, it was a big one, but there was a lil bit of an elbow in it. At least Stevens didnt intentionally try to hurt him, he even said it. Sarich tried to hurt Marleau and I could see the elbow to his face.
WTF??? how old are you? You have a lot too learn. Why the hell would you say stevens didn't want to hurt him but sarich did??? did you personally talk to them? The fact is both finished their checks like they were supposed to and both were clean. I don't think you know what elbowing is.
the fact that the head makes contact with the elbow does not mean it is elbowing. the player must swing and raise his elbow in a fashion that makes it so the elbow "go out of its way" to hit the head. You are supposed to keep your arm down along your side which is exactly what sarich did. he did not swing his elbow up or out to make contact. This is going to go right over your simple head. typical american hockey fan. retarded.
I heard it in an interview that Stevens said that he wasnt trying to hurt him, just take him outta the play. How I can tell that Sarich was trying to hurt him is because Phaneuf earlier boarded him and then Sarich thought somehow it would be ok to kill him. I dont know, maybe Im missing something, the camera angle wasnt real good so it was hard to tell, but from what I can see it looked like an elbow.
P.S. Ive played hockey for 10 yrs, I know what elbowing is, Ive taken a few here and there
WHAT??? what kind of logic are you following. to say sarich tried to kill him because phaneuf hit him earlier is the DUMBEST thing I have ever heard. the camera angle is fine you can see him bring his arm into his body right before the collision.
Im saying it was unneccesary of him to do what he did, considering what Phaneuf did earlier. But whatever it really doesnt matter, the Sharks still won the series. And I dont have any distaste for the Flames, I just didnt like what I saw, both teams are much better this year than they were last year.
Here's what you don't see, so many big hits are what seem to be from the elbow, but his arm is basically glued to his body. It looks like an elbow because Sarich is bigger than him and Marleau was in a lower skating stance which all players have when they have the puck for the best possible control of the puck. Don't forget, this is playoffs hits like that change games and the Flames drew a penalty from the CLEAN hit leading to a PP goal.
Oh ok, now I see, I mean I understand that these kind of hits change the game especially in the playoffs and it did here, but you gave a good description of this hit. Thanks for helping me understand it better.
that was the best game i've been to me and my cousin were in the 24th row in upper bowl but thats where the real fans are, our section started the cujo chant and absolutely deafened people after that hit, waiting for our ride afterwards people are still outside yelling "GO FLAMES GO!" this years playoffs are gonna be better
I was at this game sitting all the way up in the nosebleed section. The two gentlemen beside me had stopped paying much attention to the game at this point. This hit happened, and one of the gentlemen sitting next to me jumped and asked " what just happened"( the crowd response of course directing his attention to the game again). "Murder" I responded "Sarich just killed Marleau against the boards". He and his friend afterwards paid more attention to the game and we all know the result!
lol... um havent the sharks been expected to win the cup like 5 years ago? hahaha.. and they still havent gotten there. This was the closest they been since.. um who eliminated them in the finals in 03/04? :D calgary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wahooo go flames go.. sharks suck hahaha maybe if you want to win a cup.... at least make it to the stanley cup finals before you say you have that chance... how many times you been past the second round in the last 10 years? once? good luck next year.
i'm all for hitting.. its a part of hockey but he should've served his time in the penalty box. there was a reason why he was bleeding, elbow to the head? and if hitting is taking an elbow to the head, hitting in hockey is just fuckin' retard.
If you do, u clearly play in a league without body contact becuz any normal hockey player can easily tell a good hit from a bad one. Go back to houseleague kid. The NHL is made of hitting and from wat it appears, your vagina can't handle it.
The hit that won the game.

This hit happened, and one of the gentlemen sitting next to me jumped and asked " what just happened"( the crowd response of course directing his attention to the game again). "Murder" I responded "Sarich just killed Marleau against the boards". He and his friend afterwards paid more attention to the game and we all know the result!

such an unbelievable game
made the flame's eventual loss of the series that much more painful.
the fact they were able to rally from a 3-0 drubbing showed character they hadn't shown all season.

wahooo go flames go.. sharks suck hahaha maybe if you want to win a cup.... at least make it to the stanley cup finals before you say you have that chance... how many times you been past the second round in the last 10 years? once? good luck next year.
IceWarrior101 3 years ago
sure, this is a clean hit
ovechkinthegr81 3 years ago
When do you see Sarich elbow Marleau? I see him tuck his arm in to his side and give a clean hit. It was Marleau's fault for keeping his head down.
And I don't get why people are still arguing it, it happened a while ago, hell, the playoffs are done with, just give it a rest.
Eatmorecandybars123 3 years ago
shoulda kept your head up u pussy!!!!!!!!
drumlax69 3 years ago
hit him with the elbow.. i don't know why flames fan cannot see that.. the second hit by phaneuf was clean though.
likechemistry 3 years ago
how the fuck is that an elbow??
That's as fair as hits come.
It's pussy's like you who are gonna get rid of hitting from hockey.
HA...elbow
Champs1707 3 years ago
take those red glasses, douche.. he clearly brought up the elbow.
and whats the point of having rules if they are broken? might as well have ufc on ice.
likechemistry 3 years ago
i'm all for hitting.. its a part of hockey but he should've served his time in the penalty box. there was a reason why he was bleeding, elbow to the head? and if hitting is taking an elbow to the head, hitting in hockey is just fuckin' retard.
likechemistry 3 years ago
Im assuming you don't play hockey.
If you do, u clearly play in a league without body contact becuz any normal hockey player can easily tell a good hit from a bad one. Go back to houseleague kid. The NHL is made of hitting and from wat it appears, your vagina can't handle it.
Champs1707 3 years ago
i pity that you are a hockey player.. and apparently, you have a lot of growing up to do.
