  • Wanna see what im talking about go and see letsdig18, he mounts his to the cab, easy to follow.

  • @duane2072

I know his videos. Different style. I tried doing a few like that, and expect that I will again, but I've had a hard time finding the right angle that catches enough of what's going on. I'll eventually buy one of those 'Go Pro' cameras, which have a wide viewing angle, and will probably start experimenting along that line.

Too bad about the camera shake on this video. I don't like it either. I've tried to remove it, but to no avail.

  • Curiosity here, to get a nice square hole like that, you dig your sides first then the middle then clean up loose stuff? Didnt much care for the cam on the head, im still dizzy. Your body makes every movement the hoe makes just out of sync and hard to follow. Better if you had it mounted to the hoe.

  • First anewbeggining21 said, "First off, learn spelling and grammar"

Then anewbeggining21 said, "when I fist questioned", "in the consturction industry", "Almost evey construction site", "I arres MY case", "Deere excvators", "use Izuzu diesels", along with many others.

Huummm ... pot, kettle, black, that other stuff. Hilarious when some people completely fill their mouth with their own foot. LOL!!

  • 690ELC Fastest excavator made, Built 100% by deere and run lindie pumps, sadly eventualy absorbed by hitachi

  • you fuckin yankees can't run shovels your only good for welfare

  • where you placed the cam??

  • @krapencar

On my hardhat. Do a search on my channel and you'll find a couple of videos where I show my setup. Try 'hat cam' and you'll probably find it.

  • looks a bit like an old EX200 are those deer's any good?

  • @swiftyjim2

Seem pretty much like a Hitachi, except they burn more fuel and make more noise. What that accomplishes, I don't know. But I suppose they get the job done about as well as the next guy's machine.

  • @kimchiman1000

Hitachi makes deere excavators and deere just puts there name on it so they are both the same

  • so you put a trench box in next?

  • @AlanMolstad

Yeah. Somewhere on this channel I think I have a video of the box going in.

  • I Drive a track machine also my own one and do all sort of concrete and civils work but mostly cattle slatted units and every inch of squareness could show the difference between the amount of time ihave to spend putting up shuttering pans ten minutes when digging could mean cutting 2 hours of hard labour out. thats what machines were built for to save hardship on the worker.

  • As far as I can see he's doin a very good job more than likely the same guy that owns the track machine owns the truck so what odds if the truck is sittin waitin the sides of the dig possibly had to be straight to put anchors in for concrete shuttering pans plus any loose material that could fall should be removed anyway so maybe you should drive a digger ya might learn a bit petey

  • @Seamus549

    Good observation, Seamus. Thanks.

  • did you have a helmet cam

  • Awesome video, top notch excavating skills. :D

  • nice oporating

  • he must of worked for the city before, lol those dog fuckers,,,5 of them staring in the hole leaning on there shovels

  • oh ya,,i love a good hole!!!!!!!!!!

  • @gooleader a hairy hole. not bald. hairy. no to hairy, but hairy. ya hear?

  • good hole buddy!!and tell redneck pete to fuck off,,he doesnt even have any vids,,,lol

i would suggest a larger machine,,but probably tight for room,,,merry xmas

  • grow up boys

  • And you wouldn't last long working for me either, Pete. You'd be wasting too much time later trying to get the corners square while the truck waits. And it would take you longer to get it done because you didn't have the foresight to keep them square in hard material. You would end up fighting just to get the bucket into the corner of the hole - and on this one it HAD to be square.

Look who's protesting. YOU came HERE and made your comments. You are too self important for your own good, pal.

  • hey redneckpete heres an idea for you, shut the fuck up

  • @universaleffect.

Yeah, it's pretty old. I saw it on a street about a week ago. They still use that old heap. Very tired old machine, but I guess it's making money for them. I won't miss it if I never operate it again, tho...

  • i was wondering how you feel about john deere im 14 and i run one a 5103, just wondering

  • i'm an operator of many pieces of machinery such as excavators with 5 years of practice haha i just got layed off soo any information on operators jobs would be greatly appriciated myspace amsy-deli thanks

  • Better ask redneckpete, right above your comment. He seems to think he's quite the expert.

I wish I could help ya, but I'm in the same boat right now. Got a road grader job lined up for next month, but it's only for next month, and then it's back to knocking on doors.

    Good luck to us both.

  • @redneckpete:

Hey loser, I just checked out these two sections as well. Man, you really don't know much, do you? You say the operator 'struggles too far to the right', etc. No struggling to the right was involved. The bucket was being pulled straight back, to carve a clean, square corner. You say move four feet to the left. I'll tell you something, pete old boy, I can tell what your holes look like without even seeing them. You get your dig all rounded out in the bottom,

    continued...

  • ...and then you have to struggle later to get the corners squared up, if you even bother to square them at all, which I doubt, based on your stupid comments. With this hole, the corners had to be very square, or the cage would not have fit in it. But of course you like to major on shooting off your mouth without taking the time to think such things through, don't ya, bro?

Also, regarding leaving the truck idle...

    continued...

  • If you had taken the time to actually THINK before you made that comment, you just MIGHT have noticed that I didn't happen to have a stockpile of material that I could just load the truck from, Bozo. I had to hot load the truck with the material that I was digging out of the hole, which happened to be made of very hard material toward the bottom half - bordering on sandstone conditions, which is not obvious from the video footage.

Who do you think you are to come here and dis this vid, anyway?

  • And why am I even bothering to answer your inanity? I should have just deleted your comments. Must be because I want to let you show the world how stupid you truly are, mate!

  • By the way: PLEASE post some videos of you operating an excavator. I'd LOVE the chance to put some great comments there, bud!

  • Maybe the operator was thinking that redneckpete should put up his own video to show us all how it's done, instead of talking about how he thinks this guy did such a poor job.

    Just a guess...

Talk is cheap, as the saying goes.

  • Redneckpete it looks like he is trying to keep dirt off of the road. He is digging in an existing street, any mess has to be cleaned up. Cleanup takes time, and time=money.

  • @wailnshred.

How's it goin'? I just had a look at the parts of my vid that redneckpete mentioned. He's obviously one of those guys who has no life of his own, and likes to sit in his easy chair and pretend he's a real operator.

@redneckpete. Dude, give your head a shake! The :38, :50, and 1:12 parts that you mentioned are anything but what you imagine. First of all, those instances are NOT at the bottom of the hole; they are about 18 inches down from the top.

    continued...

  • But apparently you have no sense of depth perception, since the hole is about 20 feet deep at the back, in this video.

Secondly, where you so expertly pointed out that I was pushing the teeth and the heel of the bucket backward (again, it was near the very top of the dig), there was a live A/C water main. I was pushing loose material (not packed, as you imagined it) from it, so as to keep the A/C more or less where I could see it, so that I didn't blow it out of the ground.

    Continued...

  • Now, YOU, on the other hand, probably would have ripped it right out of there, you EXPERT COMMENTATOR, and shut down the water service for the entire neighborhood, and would have caused who knows how much money to your boss, etc.

Is your life really so empty that you have nothing better to do than trash a video that someone puts on YouTube so as to share what he does with others who enjoy watching it?

Get a life, Pete. Really man, get a life.

  • One last thought, Mr. Pete:

You said: "Sweeping some loose material into the hole this way is fine."

Funny that you should say that, because if you take the time to go back and watch the video again, you will see that that is EXACTLY WHAT I WAS DOING at the time.

    Lay off the crack, dude!

  • kimchiman,i love ur vids.we have a JD 690elc excavator and i operates it sometimes(i am only 15) canada looks like soft rock....well over here in the bahams we cut limestone with a quarry bucket lol

  • Cool!

  • alot of ppl look at the hoes and think they can run it with np but what they fail to understand is its not

i love when ppl say i can do it i let them have my seat and watch them look like morons cuz they they cant even start it there is also more then just pulling leavers when digging pipe and ppl dont think about it guys in the whole there life is in ur hands pretty much one false move and there dead dont safe the trench right have a cave in there dead gotta love the i can do anything ppl

  • Excellent comment! I wholeheartedly agree!

  • what's that boom behind the truck?

  • It's the front of the pony trailer, which was jack knifed so I could load the truck first.

  • just curious, what state is this work being done in? I am a excavating foreman in minnesota, and although we dont do much sewer work we use sand buckets on our hoes. I dont think sand buckets are used much outside of minnesota, wisconsin, and maybe n. dakota. but what do i know? Im just an excavator.

  • This job was in Burnaby, BC, in the greater Vancouver area. North of Washington State.

Regarding the buckets, well, it seems every company has a slightly different way worked out for getting the job done. Power to ya!

  • Hey gangesex why dont you go fuck your mother with something dull, like yourself

  • That is one incredibly STUPID COMMENT. You would never 'fire my ass', because you would NEVER be in charge of a project like this, and you proved it with your comment.

"Get some shoring" - Get a LIFE, buddy! See some of the other videos, where it shows the shoring cage in place, before you make stupid comments. I would expect a stupid comment like that from someone half your age, but at 40 you should know better.

  • we have many jd excavators mostly 200s up to a 370 Hitachi Im not familiar with a 690. is it old or is it actually 69 metric ton machine?I know the older machines didnt always follow that rule.

  • A 690 is a 200. It's just the previous naming convention that JD used for a long, long time. I don't remember, but I think this one is a D series.

  • Its a 690 E LC made from 1992-1997. As for the pabstman`s comment I don`t know how the old Deere numbering system works. Everything up to 7 was 90 (190,290,490,590,690,790. But then including and after that was 92(792,892, and 992) Always wanted to figure it out myself.! Anyone who knows feel free to answser please!

  • Foolish in your eyes but right in what i say in the uk mitshubishi are one of the most popular machines .And one of the best to drive for power and reliable to but then again what do i know.Having only driven all types of machines for the last twenty plus years .Please tell which is the best selling backhoe/360excavator in north america .Bet its not the shitty deere.Face it its like saying i have got a rolls royce but its got atoyota starlet engine in it just not the same is Iit. fool boy lol

  • you should know when you put this video on every idiot that watched a machine work could do it better or would quit if they had to run a deer, bullshit theyd run what ever the boss put under their fat ass. are you holding the cam or tied it to something?

  • Yep. I've learned that one the hard way, bro. I actually know some very good operators who have killed their own YouTube channels because of MORONS like waspkfd, who know NOTHING AT ALL about the work we do, yet have nothing better to do than put us down after watching our videos. And some of the videos these guys had were very good videos (hey Gangesex and Solar140, I hope you guys see this - we miss y'all here at the 'tube'!).

  • To see how I did my camera, go to my channel, and it's the first video on the list.

Thanks for the comment. Good to see someone every so often who has some common sense to add to the equation.

  • shite machine try a cat or hitachi much better

  • That it is. Glad I don't have to operate it any more.

  • Guess what buddy. Deere excavators are made by Hitachi lmfao. Only difference is the engine, and the Deere engines have more balls then Hitachi`s Izuzu`s. Making Deeres slightly better then Hitachi. Make sure you know your stuff b4 you comment :)

  • Yep. U said it.

  • guess what mate if it does not have hitachi engine then not a hotachi then is it shite engine shite machine end off .just look at top selling machines {diggers) you wont find deere up there with the best .irest my case know your stuff lol

  • Dude your foolish! First off, learn spelling and grammar and start sentences with capitals like we all learned in grade 1. Deere excvators are the same thing with a different motor and paint job. The hydraulic pumps, pistons, valves are all Hitachi. The body, cab, boom, under carraige, pins and bushings are Hitachi! Deere makes a great motor and if you gonna say that then a Hitachi isn't even a Hitachi because they mostly use Izuzu diesels!

  • ps that should be hitachi not mitshubishi lolthats the make of my truck pmsl

  • I'm not knocking Hitachi excavators at all they are good machines! I'm just saying that Deere's are the same damn thing. Just like Case and Link Belt excavators are the same thing. I am on construction discussion forums and alot of Cat guys are giving the new Deere machines props saying how nice and powerful they are. 3 major construction companies in Ontario where I live(Dufferin being the biggest) used to have Hitachi excavators but are retiring them and replacing with Deere! I arres MY case!

  • Hitachi sells more because they are worldwide, Deere has been mainly North American in the consturction industry until recently, just like Liebherr still isn't that big in North America. Almost evey construction site I see all over Ontario you see Deere or Cat excavators. Not as many Hitachi's as I used to. I see used Deeres for sale with 15 000 hrs and up for sale and in great working order. I think the machine in this vid has 13 000 hrs on it. Want "shite"? get Kobelco, Doosan or even Case!

  • One last thing. I'm pretty sure that Kimchiman1000 agreed with me when I fist questioned your comment about Hitachi being better then Deere as he replied to my comment saying "Yep.U said it."

  • FTR, my 'U said it' was directed to davejcno1. However, it was not about the comparison between different manufacturers. I was referring to the particular machine that I was operating in the video, and not to John Deere machines in particular. The machine in the vid IS an old clunker, but it has done a LOT of hard work before it got there.

Also FTR: I tend to agree with anewbeggining21's assessment of things here, for the most part.

  • Yeah, Case and Link Belt are both just rebadged Sumitomos. I think the new ones are pretty good. I've always liked the Link Belts, since they went to Sumitomo. I never had the opportunity to operate the older, American made models though.

The older Case excavators were just Poclain junk, IMHO. I hated operating them. Same with the first Samsungs that were imported State side. I remember that in Korea, where they are manufactured, they were badged, Samsung Poclain, when I lived there.

  • This would of course explain why the first Samsungs over here were crap machines, and a pain in the ass to operate. The stell hyd lines were always springing leaks, etc. Just hated 'em!

I remember ripping the whole bucket assembly off of a stick on a new one once, right above the weld on the main pin at the end of the stick. I wasn't even pulling that hard on the rock, and it just let go. JUNK!

No comment on the newer ones mind you.

  • Back to Poclains: I wonder if they ever got to making anything decent for the North American market. I never saw any evidence of it if they did.

The only Hyundai (현대) machine that I ever operated was junk, but it must've been close to 20 years old.

Cats (Mitsubishi), Hitachis, and John Deeres - the newer (Sumitomo) Cases and Link Belts; I like 'em all...

  • Hmm isn't Samsung now Volvo? Whats your opinion of Kobelco, Komatsu, or Daewoo/Doosan if you have any experience on them that your able to share. I dunno much about them really and being a Equipment fanatic I would love to find out!

  • No opinion on those ones, except to note that the older 대우 (Daewoo) machines were identical to the UH series Hitachi excavators. The only difference I could see was that the 대우 (Daewoo) machines were 'DH' instead of 'UH'. So a UH 07 in Daewoospeak was a DH 07. So they must've been manufacturing them under licence from Hitachi at that time, I'm guessing. I don't think they exported those ones though, as I never saw any over here.

  • Alright I just said that because The U said it popped up for me as an E mail saying that you replied to my comment for some reason. Thats why I assumed but I was wrong on that part so I appologize.

  • Your Digging a soak away and u fill it with concrete such as Bricks, Concrete slabs (broke) and lots more

  • just a PC40 nothin big, old as well... didnt even know i had a muscle car vid!?!?!?1

  • 4min,kein lkw voll!mein chef würde mich raus schmeisen

  • damn bro thats 1 loud ass rattly old thing u operatin there.. big hole though where abouts?

  • So......

what do you own for equipment, man? All I see on your channel is some muscle car that ends up costing you money, not making a cent.

  • fuck me that was dull

  • I'd rather not!

    LOL

  • how about I fuck you with something dull

  • LMAO!

  • old rattly excavators forever! God bless 690ELC John Deere excavators! If only youtube users were as consistent and came up to bat like Deere excavators.......

  • what the hell was sticking off the back of the truck by the pintle hitch?

  • Well, think about it for a minute. What would you normally expect to be sticking off that back of a pintle hitch?

    ...

    ...

    Yes, a trailer.

Mind you, unless you can see the trailer, it does look a bit odd.

  • Didn't notice the trailer some places have some interesting connections for like sanding the roads in the wintertime thought it might be part of it or something.

  • looks like a good career

  • ya dig both sides first an then the guts and ya get a nice square hole. probably got the sprockets to the front. I wouldnt work for a company that has john deere excavators.

  • "ya dig both sides first an then the guts and ya get a nice square hole. probably got the sprockets to the front."

Yep. That's how I like to do 'em.

"I wouldnt work for a company that has john deere excavators."

You would if you had a mortgage to pay, and had to put food on the table for your family, and the job was available, or you'd be a fool, bro. When it comes to bringing home a pay check, I'll take what I can get, even if I don't like the machine.

    Continued...

  • Case in point:

Where I work now, they have Bobcat brand mini excavators; if you hate JD's, you'd hate these a LOT MORE, trust me on that one. But I still operate them, as right now the alternatives aren't that good. I get a good wage and a company truck to take home at the end of the day.

Where I live, very few companies give their operators trucks, and most pay about $5 per hour less than what I'm getting, even for experienced, highly skilled operators.

I'm just glad to have a job right now.

  • But hey - if you've got options, that's great! I wish I had them.

What do you operate - Cat?

  • wow guys are so quick to make comments on stuff. Al, keep working, I love 690 Deere hoes, and I bet that last comment came from a guy who doesnt own any equipment or make payments to a finance firm. I love your videos, and just keep on keepin it real. Fuck 'em.

  • Back atch, bro!

  • kepp the vid coming

  • what is the whining noise on that ho the hydro pump?

  • The (ahem) operator...

    :(

  • Anyway, that particular old piece of crap (which Pedre unfortunately still has in their excavator fleet) was on its fourth hyd pump when that video was shot.

At times it was so fouled up that I could barely lift the bucket up out of that hole - EMPTY!

So yeah, it's the hoe, but also the operator!

  • why does it burn through hydro pumps like that i thought deere was supossed to be good

  • Don't know. But they should put it out of its current operator's misery. Maybe gut it and put it in a park somewhere as a children's play thing, like I've seen with old fire trucks and train engines.

  • maby they are wiating for you to do it would make a nice play ground center piece though

  • Is that why the small bucket?

  • that is funny al

  • Hit and run, eh?

Your comment will only mean something when you show us YOUR video of YOU operating and excavator. Until then, your comment is meaningless.

While you're at it, learn to spell, wanker.

  • I'd love to see you do better. put your money where your mouth is,pal. I think hes a great operator.

  • Go back to Kiwiland and put your head in the sand. your insulting a personal friend of mine who just does the best he can, and he's a damn good operator, make no mistake.

Until I start to see what you're coming to bat with for equipment and skills......

    SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • Has that Deere got a Deere engine or Izuzu engine? What would be the equivalent Hitachi to the Deere 690?

  • I'm assuming that it's NOT an Izuzu.

    A 200 and a UH 07 is a 690, and a 220 and a UH 09 is a 790.

    A 300 and a UH 12 is an 890, and a 400 and a UH 14 is a 990 - 992. At least, that's how it was going back a few years, if I recall correctly.

Seems to be that there are a lot more numbers floating around these days.

  • Your pretty much right about the old ones. In 1997 john deere stared to adopt the Hitachi numbering system minus the "ex" which is nos the "zx or zaxis". There accually aren't relaly anymore numbers then b4 the 190=80, 290=110(discontinued model) 490=120, 590=160, 690=200, 790=230/240(was the hitachi 220), 792=270, 892=350 (the ex300 and 892 became the 330's now known as 350), 992/ex 400=450. The only new numbers are the 135's, 225's which are zero tail swing models.

  • ...always wondered what the xx2s were. Thanks for the info.

  • Case has swings pedals on each side.

    from left to right

    Bucket Dipper Boom Extendahoe

  • hey nice vid. I'm also impressed with the dump truck driver for parking it perfect even tho he had a pup on...very cool.

  • how are the john deere excavators to run? i have only ever run cat and hitachi excavators. personally i dont like the hitachi's

  • Then you won't like a John Deere. John Deere's are for the most part Hitachis with yellow paint. Just a few of the internal components are different.

  • the thing i dont like about hitachi's are i find that it really lacks stick and break through power. is that the same for the deere?

  • Hey im from Germany. And im driving a O+K excavator. What steering do you is on your machine. We have Euro steering:

  • We usually have two joystick style controls, with two function patterns being predominant: John Deere style and Cat style. Someone else can tell us all which one is SAE, as I don't recall. But generally speaking, the John Deere pattern is more popular on backhoes and smaller excavators, and the Cat pattern is more popular on larger excavators. There are other control patterns, like Case controls, but I don't see a lot of operators using them these days, like I did when I was a kid.

  • cat is the sae pattern

  • In the UK what you call the cat pattern is seen as ISO and the pattern you call JD is seen as SAE. I know people will disagree with me and say I'm wrong, but that's how it is in the UK believe me.

  • I've used a few different patterns, what's the Case control pattern Al?

  • Never used 'em myself. But I have seen a few older operators use them. Four levers across - old fashioned style, instead of four way joystick style controls. I can't remember if the swing function is from a foot pedal or not. Maybe a case control operator can help us out here.

  • Oh, i know what you mean now, the four levers, MF and Ford used these too. I think all the old machines had them once lol. I think from left to right the four levers on a backhoe were slew, boom ,dipper, bucket, can't be certain though lol.

  • Sounds like if you combined the two left levers into one joystick, and the two right levers into the other joystick, you'd have John Deere controls. I'll bet that's probably how they came to be.

  • How deep was the hole? The manholes we install in La are 6' wide at the extended base, your hole looks big. You could have made it smaller and safer with a manhole trench box. Sure you can do it your way, but you move alot more dirt, and the men are not safe while grouting the sections and pipe entrances.

  • Some day I'll post the full version over on livevideo. You'll see that all of the grouting, etc, was done inside the cage. The hole was 16' deep. This one was a five footer, if I recall correctly. And yeah, we moved a heck of a lot of dirt. But I'm not the boss ;-)

  • Hell! We have all had it happen...the contractor gives you a 3' bucket and say dig a 2' trench.

    Rock on!

  • wrong bucket

  • So say you. What would you have had me dig it with? Everyone's always got some better way to do it (sigh), than the guys who did it.

  • nice nice im from jersey i work for the road department here and thats all im driving is the excavator fun machines to drive

  • do u work for the road department or a contractor?

  • Utility contractor

  • cOOL

  • Nice (o;
