Indeed, the contradictions of yesteryear continue to profoundly affect the lifechances of the devalued other in myriad ways. I find myself going back again and again to Arendt's thesis- the banality of evil- and the ways in which we continue to torture and brutalize our fellow sojourners; in the meantime we make proclamations centering on abstract liberal principles and christian/western principles. What a sham and a tragedy!
