@totaleclipse99 like the guy said, its about the driving experience(I take it as he isnt claiming it to be FAST, but will handle well). I want the BRZ myself, and even though its not FAST, its gonna be faster than my car now. plus from the reports Ive read its gonna handle WAY better as well.
I see this car in someone garage with no engine sitting next to a 2jz and a man with a mischievous look on his face...Its about time Toyota started making a Rwd car again. Hope its not expensive though, someone has to make a cheap rwd sports car since the miata starts at $23,500.
I wouldn't even care if the car was over $30k - its not the money. My wife wanted one so badly when the concept rolled out and this is so bland in comparison. The wheels are FUGLY on the red/introduction car.
I wish I wish with all my heart...to fly with dragons in a land apart? No. I'm jk. But Honda seriously needs to figure out a way to get its FD2 CTR over here (USA) to compete with this thing. There is a good market for cars like these! Don't let VW scoop up all the sales through its GTI's! Come on Honda! Get! Get!
If they are going to market the car for young buys, not alot of young buyers would consider affording 25k for a car that isnt very fast or pratical. the Scion Tc is already 18,500msrp. The Frs Quality and Specs looks not much diffrent to an average person on paper then a Scion TC: 20 more Hp and Rwd, ok..... pricing the FRS at 25k will just ruin the market for this car Imo.
ok so now there are three Toyota FT-86s renamed into various things...
Toyota GT-86
Subaru BRZ
and now the Scion FR-S
abit annoying theres 3 versions of the same car but atleast u kno the scooby and the toyota will be better than the scion considering the scion is being released now and the other two are still being improved
@dukie827 Why would i research what an American car company is doing when there are two Japanese companies doing the same thing with most of the tuning market for these cars in Japan and especially when scion doesn't even exist in my country....
@flamejame You were claiming that the Scion will be crappier than the other two variants. I told you to do some research because what you said was completely wrong. You don't have to actually do the research but don't be going around saying things about cars that you don't even know the facts to.
@dukie827 if people didnt say anything about cars they didnt kno the facts to then there would be very little comments on any cars unless that person actually owned to car or worked on the car so in short fuck off
@flamejame It's fun talking to the immature people that end up using curse words to help define their comments. Many people have opinions about cars that they know nothing about that they talk about. Ahh...didn't think about that, now did you?
Yes this "successor to the ae86 Light weight, good power to weight, daily driver, easy on the pump, fun to drive, with manual transmission form and hopefully on good terms with the insurance" will definitely be the car for me.
Could it be the era of the 80's 90's coming back? Wonder how Nissan will respond.
those complaining about the downgrades on certain cosmetic features have to realise this is the base model. led headlights, touch nav, digital AC controls and so on will be upgrade options.
Can't wait to sell my daily and get this and rebadge it as Toyota (or just get the Subaru version). Those Rays wheels look really good but probably out of my budget. I'll probably get some 17x9 RPF1's for it after they make coilovers for it.
uh we put exhaust and uhh we put interior uhhh and intake make by gredii and uhh we put tires." so u didnt do anything worth a damm " uhhh yeah it was a tough build
i don't want the scion frs, everybody knows that the gt86 took a shit and what came out is the scion frs piece of shit. this car is so down graded all the way to the interior and exterior. I DON'T WANT IT
What's up with badge whores like you? Whining about the same car with a different badge. Want a Toyota GT86? Buy an FR-S, get a hair dryer, floss, and get Toyota badges.
@CJAEY its not even about the badge, well very little but, the frsis so down graded in quality of the interior finishing and even the headlights are not the same. very disappointed in the frs. the only good thing they have is the flat 4 boxer RR. besides that it look so crapy
Personally I think the car still generally looks the same. How can you be too sure that the cars differ in terms of quality? Have you sat in either FR-S or GT86? From pictures alone, I think the Scion FR-S' interior looks just as good. You're right about the headlights but the argument reminds me of the whole JDM vs USDM Integra thing.
Stupid fucking idiot got me all excited for the car and they give me an ugly car so I can put a body kit and make it look good... Well I am not gonna buy it because I like the concept look it looked functional. But this is bullshit.. Smart move but at the same time it do the same as the Hyundai genesis... If anything maybe worse cuz it looks like shit and no performance. At least the Hyundai has some balls with the turbo.... Shame on u two companies to come out with a car with combined ideas ye
Guys guys guys. It's not in the horsepower alone. Think about power to weight ratio. This thing weighs what, 2700 lbs? AND good gas mileage (around 30 mpg). For what your paying, which its rumored to start at $25k, this isn't a let down at all in my opinion. Plus it's not supposed to compete with 370z's/mustangs and STi's anyway. Everyone calm down.
@YupImBatman On car and driver and the other magazines they say weight is 2800-2900 lbs. and this car's power to weight ratio is not that good (around 14). They should at least had a small turbo with horsepower near 220. That seemed reasonable. Or used a turbo charged motor in general instead of an NA.
@YupImBatman HP is not the problem, a light and good handling car is what we want. people buy new civics si and dont even have that much HP and lets not even mention TRQ plus is a FWD and they don't complaint. Now we have a affordable car and people are hating? if speed is all you want then get a 8 cyl car and shut you azz up..not u, but for the haters lol..
@YupImBatman So true, man, so true. Besides--the FR-S was designed as an homage to the AE86 Corolla. That car's engine was even MORE gutless--just a bit over a hundred horsepower out of the factory. The key for both the FR-S and the AE86 is tuning--not just of the engine, but of the drivetrain, the suspension, the brakes--it's a good car out of the box, but it has the potential to be a monster, given the right modifications. That's what this car's all about.
@Hebert6760 Yes totally. Figuring as the 2jz gte engine swap would cost over a quarter of what your paying for the FR-S itself. You'll need the engine, trans, ecu, etc etc and then pay for labor. Have fun!
@YupImBatman good news my friend , i have a daily driven 652hp 532tq 2jz in my 300zx so parts i dont have to worry about plus i dont few swaps myself and to put a rwd engine in a rwd car its like putting butter in a bread :)
@YupImBatman "you are so annoying you moronic horsemeat eater" "scion blows goats" "huur duur shuddafuggup yuo faggid" Is what I would anticipate some trolls would say to you.
@halokid130 well, the price has only been said to be "well under $30k" so anything you hear about it or think for now is merely speculation... though they may reveal more at the detroit auto show next week
For every one who thinks the scion fr-s looks like the Subaru brz and Toyota gt-86 (not ft-86) that's because they are 99% the same exact car!!! These 3 companies teamed up together.
@clos19851 Because Honda's are FWD pieces of shit. By your logic, throwing a giant supercharger on a 5.0 so it pushes 500+ hp means it's just as good as GT-R or a 997 Turbo S.
@squirlybmx Wtf are you talikng about I think your a little over assuming here.. And a Moron for discriminatiing a car just cuz its Badge.. 2.0 200hp 155 tq as advertised @ 25000$ vs 1.8 197 Hp 133 Tq for 10,000 Big fukin Differance...
Not sure if i will but the Subaru BRZ, the Toyota ae86, or this Scion FR-S. THey are just all so different and offer different power and handling capabilities.
I for one welcome the FR-S but I think they should've stuck with the first concept. But seeing that you can't stick with one design all the time, you have to make changes as you move closer to the debut and production date. That's the reason why the design has been constantly changed. However, I think most people are just mad at the FR-S because it's branded as a Scion. I see nothing wrong with that.
I wonder if they'll try a Shigeno Shingo version in Japan painted Panda colored. Also the BRZ reminds me of the old corolla levin which was called BZ-R iirc? its been on my mind. anyone know what BRZ stands for?
The new Scion was supposed to be a real car, RWD with the legendary 3SGTE turbo motor from the successful Celica GT4. What the hell is this the carried to sell us?
Lame-ass car which is rumored to cost $30,000. Why would I want that? And then I have to go to GReddy or HKS to make the car go? Go buy yourself a WRX or EVO for the same money.
What should I do?? Use my money to get the FR-S or import an S15 here to the US?? I won't have the money till mid 2014 when I graduate college, so I got time to think but what would you guys do? I'm sure the FR-S will go down in price by then and maybe get some nice upgrades, but still which would be better?
@malehousecat You forgot the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V: 200hp and 180 ft-lbs. And 210 hp from a TURBO 2.0L isn't that impressive, especially since the 2.0T Genesis is actually slow and numb to drive.
Hopefully the Scion/Subaru project motivates Nissan to bring back the 240sx.
When the concept was presented, I liked it. I still think it's nice for guys like me who are not all about tuning and enjoy a reliable sporty car, at a decent price, that will not cost a fortune in gas either. I really wanted a tC (the previous model), but I don't fit in, it's too small (eyes above the top of the windshield), and sad thing is, I'm pretty sure I can put this one aside with the same problem...
Toyota dropped the ball overall and is just continuing this farce of a car on hype. so in 2012 we will finally have the makings of a RWD ITR? wow. big fucking deal, way too little too late. should have listened way back when before you completely lost your balls toyota. now i dont even care, ill get myself a miata with a hardtop for under 8K and mod the fuck out of it not worrying about voiding any warranty.
To be honest the Subaru version is way better. I am glad they give you two options with this platform and i know if the Subaru version is priced in the same ballpark as this they will go for the Subaru instead.
base model should be $18000, fully loaded at $22,000...... and i don't fucking care if you can put your logs into Gran Turismo 5 (only children will think that's cool you stupid shit)....
@paintborgfun horsepower is not the point, like the guy said its the driving experience plus nowdays how often do you see rwd cars that are affordable
C&D say this car base price is $26,000
Are you F*king me? 26g for a car that push 200hp?
You can get a new 370z for $30g walkout! Scion is doing down if they think this car could save their ass!

It throws me off that they ALREADY tuned a car that's not even on the market yet....

The new Scion was supposed to be a real car, RWD with the legendary 3SGTE turbo motor from the successful Celica GT4. What the hell is this the carried to sell us?
CaribbeanGTR 2 months ago
Lame-ass car which is rumored to cost $30,000. Why would I want that? And then I have to go to GReddy or HKS to make the car go? Go buy yourself a WRX or EVO for the same money.
CaribbeanGTR 2 months ago
@CaribbeanGTR Id go for a the other big 3, mustang, camaro, challenger. Starting off with a GT VS, RS, or R/T and still under 30k
2fast4all 2 months ago
disgusting.... the old concept @ NY auto show was MUCH MUCH better. This just now looks like a new scion TC... fail
EPIKjdm 2 months ago
@EPIKjdm Why no make it the new celica?

What should I do?? Use my money to get the FR-S or import an S15 here to the US?? I won't have the money till mid 2014 when I graduate college, so I got time to think but what would you guys do? I'm sure the FR-S will go down in price by then and maybe get some nice upgrades, but still which would be better?
xxKrazy2nRxx 2 months ago
@xxKrazy2nRxx
There were rumors about a turbo version 1 year after the first model gets on the market. Keep an eye open about that.

Nissan Altima 2.5S 2.5L175hp 180Tq $23,600
Civic Si 2.4L 201hp 170Tq $22,200
Hyundai Genisis 2.0T 2.0L 210hp 223Tq $22,250
Scion FR-S 2L 200hp has to be priced to steal sales from the above, especially the civic.
Anyway, ive been waiting 9 years for a new Silvia, i will continue to wait.
PS. credit to Hyundai on 210hp and 223tq form 2L. Not a hyundai fan, but thats impressive
malehousecat 2 months ago
@malehousecat Thats not impressive...Thats a TURBO my friend. My 850 Turbo's got 240HP and 250tq from a 2.3...
MRJARDIM 2 months ago
@MRJARDIM Oh it is? I didnt know, thought they were squeezing that from an N/A block. Volvos are cool. You got the 850R?

@malehousecat Its the 850 Turbo. The 850R has different software and front +rear bumpers, and interior. other than that everything is the same.
MRJARDIM 2 months ago
@malehousecat You forgot the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V: 200hp and 180 ft-lbs. And 210 hp from a TURBO 2.0L isn't that impressive, especially since the 2.0T Genesis is actually slow and numb to drive.
Hopefully the Scion/Subaru project motivates Nissan to bring back the 240sx.

reminds me of a souped out miata ..
TehJumba 2 months ago

@sil40dori I retract this negative statement after watching /watch?v=6B7hhG3q5CI . i can judge the car by the amount of happiness on his face.

it needs 300lbs of torque. less bling in the wheels.

To be honest the Subaru version is way better. I am glad they give you two options with this platform and i know if the Subaru version is priced in the same ballpark as this they will go for the Subaru instead.
