@grooveman84 kendrick scott is awesome in weak, havent heard so much of the others, as far as i know. but that's nice, got alot to discover! it's real fun too see that almost every one of these guys has something to do with eachother. Esperanza, christian scott, gretchen parlato, robert glasper, aaron parks and so on everyone knows everyone!
Amazingly artistic solo that fits the style and groove of the song. I don't know If you guys know (but you all probably do) is how his syncopated solo (with TWO drums not a million like what everyone plays) keeps the groove and the structure of the song. You can clearly hear the main baseline as he plays his solo with the smooth transition to J Dillalude. "Daddy" Dave is an amazing drummer but so is Jamire love to see those retarded trollers even try to play Jelly's da Beener.
Hi ya'll this "Rob G' whan thank ya'll for your support and words of encouragement and let ya'll know that ill be postin a very special private performance of us the experiment on sound cloud real soon, you can fin a link on my page here. peace luv 'n' hair grease ... Rob . G.
Ummm. @Mccritical80 is right. Yes, Jamire is nice, but what after a while it started getting monotonous, it's almost as if he forgot about the music. I think the same rules apply to pianist, like when they play the same note/riff repetitiously and the crowd goes wild, but him knowing darn well he's not doing crap! Drumming is more than just licks and offbeats grooves. At the end of the day, it's still an instrument and deserves to be played like one.
honestly, this is how you do a drum solo. it's technical, but it's got so much feel. some of the most expressive stuff i've ever seen. when i saw this for the first time my mind was pretty much blown, and it still is every subsequent time i watch it.
the people who think this drummer sucks should probably just head on back to the travis barker videos that they are used to watching. this isn't for you.
@Mccritical80 i understand but the rudiments hes doing on this video relly rent muscal to me, me being a drummer myself i know how hard it is to be musical with the drums ijus didnt feel it here even tho he might be a beaast...i dnt like his approach on this song
@pastense im not a respecter of person honestly i dont give a damn who he is..im a respecter of sound..and this didnt sound good to me regardless of your opinion..
@Mccritical80, yes, but you're a drummer yourself, you'd understand that you'll have "your days". Even your favorite drummer will have "his days", every musician does. That's called judging a book by its cover. Would you want people to base your skills off one performance? Didn't think so.
Let's not forget these cats are young, and easily have the capacity to surpass our current legends.
@Mccritical80, yes, but you're a drummer yourself so you'd understand that you'll have "your days". Even your favorite drummer can have "his days", every musician does. That's called judging the book by its cover. You wouldn't want your skills to be based off one performance would you? Of course, not.
Let's not forget that this is jazz and no two performances are ever, ever the same.
@caniplaydrumsforyou dude you dnt what your talking about...u sound like a real novice telling me what ive heard theres actually 2 videos with daves playing this exact same song much better and hes actually musical..this guy is running the same pattern thru the whole song but if u like it thts u and your opinion only...some people are so impressed with mediocrity
@Mccritical80 my man, Jamire is anything but mediocre. get a fucking clue. why dont you check him out in other situations. this is one video. watch some others. check him out with the jacky terresson trio. check him out with ben william's sound effect. its apparent that you know your church shit and thats about it.
For all the haters speaking on jamires solo as rubbish and crap.......This is the exact reason your at home watching this video because you are close minded and will never leave that mindstate! "ignorance impedes a wise perception"
For all those people, A drum solo out of the measure is the only thing what's really hard to a drum solo. the other hard thing is grooving, much drummers aren't able of doing either.
Everyone saying it's not musical forgets that there are dozens of elements to any performance- the Musicians and the Audience and the motion of the whole set are just some of the things a musician has to react to.
by the looks of his playing it was a pretty intense moment in the set, and the audience sure seemed to like it :)
@Mccritical80 Yo its Chris Dave not Chris Daves. Also Jamire is killing on this and everywhere else I have heard him. Dave is dope too, but that doesn't mean that Jamire isn't.
To all you closed minded haters out there: Diss all you want. End of the day, he's out there playing with Glasper and Christian Scott while you're at home watching him on youtube.
@Tripbop7 Yep, that's it in a nutshell. It's really easy for people to sit at home and criticize him. I'll bet the house that they're nowhere near as good.
Its not about what exactly he's doing but the vibe he's creating. And like you said, self expression. If u know this then you shouldn't be one to knock this drummer down. yea, a heck of a lot of drummers can play rudiments but this drummer is expressing himself and he's doing it just as loosely as Chris Dave.
Damn, people just hating cause they don't fully understand the depth of this drummers pocket or his ideas. Dont u realize when it comes to music there's no real importance of whether or not he's play a flamacue or flam triplets... It's about the music and the vibe of the environment that he's creating. People need to start thinking more like artists who paint, esp drummers. And as for simasuma stop putting down drummers and start opening your ears to what is truly taking place.
OBVIOUSLY DIS CAT GOT SOMETHING ALOT OF OTHER CATS DONT HAVE!!!! THINK ABOUT IT IF HE WAS GARBAGE HE WOULDNT BE ABLE TO FILL CHRIS DAVE SHOES AND IF YOU KNOW ROBERT GLASPER HES A GROVER SO IN MY OPINION J GOT IT HANDS DOWN ON THE KIT HES DEFINITELY GROVING CMON B IF ANYBODY KNOW HOW THIS SQUAD ROLL THERE WOULDN BE ANY NEGATIVE POSTS DEM CATS GO HARD REAL TALK
People get freaked out when they see someone doing something different. He was just using bait rudiments and bass, snare, & hi-hat. He can do much more than that I assure you, but this particular solo is what it is: self expression. You don't have to be Thomas Lang or Virgil Donati every time. That would be boring as hell.
Hmm first one minit ok then it gets boring! he lernt a few liks but that wont cut it for me, only snare hi hat an bass drum - nah theres more to druming than that son sorry. The best thing about it is the jacket ++.
I can't stand when listeners let alone drummers hate on things they can't do by insulting great players. Foolish, just because you can't appreciate it doesn't make it "rubbish" you snob.

@Choinsta actually I do have an idea. it's a bunch of really bait rudiments and patterns played really REALLY badly, outa time, kinda fast. Technically it's dumb and musically it's a shit-slick. It's not cool to just defend anything that just looks impressive. I like mad shit MORE than the next guy but this really sucks balls. @drumminggenius Come on just because you dont understand it doesn't make it rubbish. What he is doing, has nothing to do with rudiments. He's creating an effect and a feel. He's taking things over the barline and its hard for you to comprehend the time he holds internally. He also goes into different feels, going away from the 4/4 twisting the vamp around which the rest of the extremely talented trio holds down as steady as possible.
