@VangelisAthens I think what they did with the apollo 2-5 was unmanned missions to test launch procedures . apollo 6 put the capsule into space orbit. and Apollo 7 was an unmanned flight to shoot the spacecraft out of orbit and to the moon.

4, 5 & 6 were unmanned.

Apollo 6 was the first unmanned planned TLI but combined engine failures on both the 2nd & 3rd stage prevented it from reaching escape velocity.

Apollo 7 using an SIB was the first manned flight of an Apollo CSM, with Schirra, Cunningham & Eisele.

Apollo 8 was the first manned flight of a Saturn V.

I can't believe NASA is ending the Shuttle Program without anything else after it. I realize that in our political climate we want to limit our spending, but the exploration of space is not something we should cut. Just think where might be today had we not cut the Apollo program.

@DisappearingBoy2010 Well, NASA is actually planning to continue doing operations and series of missions in the near future. They're still gonna do their thing, they've just retired the shuttle. After all, it is 30 years+ old technology. And America is pretty broke, so I can see why they made the decision that they did. But I do agree with you that we shouldn't just cut exploration is space. There's so much more to learn and discover and to use for our benefit.
