And by the way beauty is a value, look at paintings and art since the greeks they portray "beautiful" people!

People show educate their own children not leave it to the media! if a child is messed up it is their parent's and their environment's fault, it is not Disney's fault!

I don't know why one display Beauty and the Beast as an example to show female weakness. Belle was everything but weak. She had more courage than most of the men of her village & definitely displayed more intelligence as well. She's my favorite. Another favorite is Mulan. She went tomboy in order to help her father, only to at the end save a whole village. Growing up I always went with the moral of the story itself & not it's gender bias/stereotype. If I ever have I kid I will all day rent a movie about the 30s to early 90s Disney than to watch some Disney movie from nowadays, in this postmodernist era of the void.

Everything was easier to understand back then because we lived in an idistrualized world we were alienated by our own acts not by media like nowadays. Back in XIX century there was also beauty system with lots of stereotypes but trought ignorance they accepted themselves as poor knowing the only way to a healthier life was working hard for the system.

yes, thats the sad reality we have become. In my family is also a being that has the same complex because he is short. And he has grown a defence mechanism by now judging tall slender people as kind of "nerdy" or something, to lift himself up as his defintion of "small person". Alot of people are not aware of that because they are not self honest, and justify it.

Thank you for posting this Ann. At 41 I have gone 'under the knife' a couple of times, the first time at 18. Because of low self-esteem (as a CHILD!). The whole Beauty and the Beast thing is messed up. I read part of the book, and the heroine is described by herself (and everyone else) as a "Plain Jane" (only in a less modern style. ^^;), yet the Beastly Prince still falls for her.
